Never have I seen someone cut up a hot glue stick with an exacto knife and hot glue so precisely. This man's attention to detail is second to none! Looks like factory applied glue!
personally when i teardown a device to repair and i see glue somewhere that shouldn't be,i kindly curse the previous technician, but this was different . The way you did it and the way it turned out to be was marvelous. Honestly I enjoyed it.
@@ststele Oh, yes, his electronics skills are just the next level. A great engineer, but be aware, his methods are messing with my OCD heavily, believe would have been the same for you too. Just give it a try 😉
Try to use face id uv hardening glue on sides of connector, it works fantastic, especially if you want to avoid using heat near little plastic latches etc. As always- well done ! :)
Hey Mr J! You should try the Qianli 007 Handle and Blade. I prefer it better than the 11 Exacto Blade. I sanded the tip a little so it wasnt so sharp. Cuts threw underfill really well and you can even scrape away underfill with the sides similar to the hockey stick tool
After seeing so much videos I really love to try hot air soldering myself. Think I should start buying equipment. I have a fully functioning Thinpad L15 with a broken off power connection socket. Seems like an easy job to start with isn't it?
I'm not too familiar with that model but it looks like they're using usb-c for charging. That could be a real challenge for a first time attempt at port replacement!
Hi, great job on getting that connector on. Do you mind sharing where you got the connector from? I lost the locking tab on mine and would like to replace it. A quick note on the hot glue application, I used to do the same but once I had to solder a wire to a nib and in order to secure it, I added hot glue just like you did. I found out that when the glue cured, it also shrank just enough to pull the solder joint apart. Just something to keep in mind if anyone tries to secure solder joints with hot glue :)
Ok, the part about pulling solder joints apart is terrifying. 🤣 Thanks! I ordered these on eBay and they came from L2 Computer in New York. Pretty sure they sell directly outside of eBay.
@RetroPC-vy3kt No , most companies regard them as multi connection points. If you have a pre 1995 MacBook the battery is held in with screws so it is intended to be replaced. If it was not intended to be replaced it would most probably be soldered in otherwise why have ribbon cables latched in that can be removed?
@martinr1834 Apple could have made that connection a lot more secure at little extra cost . Jason has done it with just a little bit of glue and that is all that Apple needed to do . They offer battery replacement as one of their services so it is a multi use connection
Hmmm i never thought about using hot glue like that. Not a huge fan of hot glue usually. I probably would have opted for super glue and regretted it instantly
IMHO is a bad idea to use this thermoglue. Because of low hardenes and such anough flexibility (one of it's ingridient is just a polyethilene). Usualy, for such delicate work i used a red compound that's making hard after heating by hot-air gun. I will wrote to you a link to this stuff.

Thank you! I'm not certain when I started doing it this way but I'm pretty sure I learned it from Paul Daniels!

Hey Jason,
Nice video! Sorin would be very proud! 😊
Thank you! I need to watch more of his videos so I understand better when people say things like this! The guy is legend in my comments. 😁
@@ststeleThat he is Jason much like yourself. Sorin is the king of hot glue repair jobs

i was thinkin' the same!!!
the high noon hot glue gun duel between Sorin and STS... the Wild West pistoleros at his finest! :)))))))))
You are on a completely different level Jason, well done!
Thanks :-)
Exceptional work Jason. If you were near me I would send my iMac board in for a connector to be soldered on.
No one is laughing at you brother you do awesome work Steve thank you.
as if there was any doubt... Nice repair job Jason. You've given me some ideas for a DJI Mini2 repair i've got that has destroyed connectors.
It's oddly satisfying, yet terrifying to see this work done. As always an amazing job.
Absolutely fabulous job! There's nothing that can beat experience ;)

Hey thanks, good idea! I always think about how my uv mask wouldn't work well but forgot all about uv glue! Will give it a try sometime.
Always learn from your vids, thank you.
Great work, also it is always a good idea to pull the board when applying any type of heat.

You are a true craftsmen Jason😀
Thank you! It's like microscopic crafting. 😁
Great Video, learned alot! Thanks
Gret stuff, thanks Jason.👍♥
Awesome job!
Nice job. I'd like to also see some desktop computer motherboards repaired. Should be interesting.
Nice work
Good work 😎 nice to see mac repairs too here 🙌🏼
Thank you!
Nice work.

A Smashing repair :-D Lets hope the pillock leaves it alone now.
Hmm cement the case closed for safety lol.
😂😂😂
Hi U.K from Ukraine
5 minute epoxy for the win! Lol 🤣 thanks

Thank you! I found it :)
I bought a digital microscope but I am not satisfied because the image is not so clear, what microscope are you using?
SUPERRR!
Those Apple anchor points are pathetic . Great job making the connector more secure 👍👍

don't worry about it man at least the next time you see this you'll know you don't have to pull the whole board out
♥
Thank you! I'm glad to see you. I remember your TH-cam @ name now so thumbnail doesn't matter. 👍

NOW you can forget changing the whole board as apple does instead of repairing

You know what is worse than chilblains ?
Snowballs!
Hehehe butthead I don’t know about you but it does get hard where sun doesn’t shine hehe
Uh huhuh huh huh hard huhhuhhuh
I was gritting it every time you used the main board as a cutting mat with that Exacto. Please don’t use the computer board as a work surface.
Your eyes are shifty
You know hot glue unglues itself after some time naturally ? Especially the transparent one
