I was just there two months ago, travelled all over. Beautiful country, not expensive, felt very safe everywhere. Great music scene in Hanoi; very friendly and welcoming people. New construction everywhere, obvious growth and expansion of businesses.
@zzzpqd : I understand your feeling.. But I will come back home wherever I go...(just my personal feeling..)...American might be your home now, but for me, Vietnam is my home.. I was born after 75s, so I don't have any image or any pain about the war.But I still can understand your pain.. Civil war is not really nice picture in history anyway, right?..Ppl from the same country hate each other..Not something we are proud of...
Why do they call it the "American War?" It was the Republic of South Vietnam who "lost" the war. America only lost tragically 58,000+ souls and scores of others wounded whom all are heroes.
The reporter in this video appears to be a youngster in his 20s. He grew up in time when war was long over. The kid doesn't seem to know much about war and its impact to the people who lived through it. His topics in the vid are nothing new to the existing world. Very bland. This indicates that education in Australia is nothing of impressive,
Do you understand at 16:0016:40 "dedicate and creative" ?? Corruption is not money under table anymore. His friends probably finance for the government official's sons and daughters to study aboard in well prestige university such as Standford, MIT, UCLA, Yale and so on. In exchange for things his friends wanted. That's how you see so many sons and daughters from these officials go study in USA. If the country is poor, and everyone is poor, then where is money to study aboard come from ?? Hmm
Australian Vietnamese relationships is continuing to develop stronger, as well as with other countries especially Europe. Australia has solutions that can assist their VN friends, and this can help develop industry for this emerging market. Think of AUS and the US about 20 years back, where things were just starting to take off. I'd rather be in a country where I have a chance to be involved with great change in history, more of a part of it watching the market and people develop everyday.
Im only 17, a vietnamese boy. I neither stand for communism nor against it, but it has been interesting to watch this video reflecting the thoughts of western ppl on our ountry Party.
Since I'm not Vietnamese, I've had heaps of people say its impossible to do business there. Mostly vietnamese people who refuse to return back. I choose to listen to the gutsy Ozzy business guys that have sneakily built hotel, cafe's, restaurants, around the city, as well as the Koreans that have swarmed into make their own almost minnie city area in South Saigon.
Im only 17, a Vietnamese boy. I neither stand for communism nor agaisnt it. But it has been interesting watching this short documentary reflecting the thoughts of a part of Western ppl on our country Party. Our country has the 23rd fastest GDP growth among 245 countries, but currently inflation and corruption are quite serious. This video only reflects a small side of a huge adventure. The war has long gone, and its time for a new generation to take over.
I've met a french guy who is exporting rice to the philippines for the last 4 years, & he's laughing because he said Philippines should have its own capacity to produce rice with the vast areas of land it has. For those that have a clue about rice, the local strain is more resistant to the dioxins mentioned earlier, however ongoing tests from INTELLIGENT businessmen, can only improve the product over time. Australia has issues with pesticide contamination to. We've got smart guys working on it.
This is a very old video, back in 2000. Vietnam is a very different place now, with tremendous investment opportunities and change, making it the number 1 top retailer destination in the world, and sudden GDP growth previously close to 8%, prior to all this financial crisis generated by the credit imbalance expressed in the US.
The Koreans and the Japanese have contributed towards many infrastructure developments, as well as scientific research to resolve many of the environmental issues left by the wicked past. HCMC is a blaze of excitement, and there are HEAPS of youtube videos showing the crazy life that makes it one of the top 5 destinations of Jetstar and Qantas from Australia. People are even flying to Australia to fly to VN because of the cheap flights.
@candybar123486: I am really glad to talk to you.. You might be scary one, but sure is reasonable person.. You don't like communism and Uncle Ho, but I do..and I do like you as well.. Wish all the best for you.. PS: I do support for democracy...and it might take lots of time.. I hope the leaders of Vietnam will have long term vision for the country and they love Vietnam more than money in short term.
Summary: Viet Nam war vs China for 1,000 yrs. 19th century French colonialists came & stayed until 1954, they lost battle of Dien Bien Phu and pulled out. VN divided North communist & South capitalist. People no like corruptive South & sided with the North. War insued, 1965 US intervened in order to stop the spreading of communism. From 1954-1975. VN in Cambodia to remove Pol Pot's regime. China involved to help Pol Pot's Khmer rouge until early '80s.
I understand the issues that ZZZPQD put forward, and this only means opportunity for the few willing to come in, and make the right relationships to take advantage of the next growing emerging market. Those who missed out in China, are now jumping into Vietnam. I am - and I'm not in Vietnamese.
@candybar123486: About communism, you can not eliminate like it never exist...If you keep running away, and look back to the past, you can only be a piece of history from 35s-75s....Sorry to say that..I really like those words ' Đừng hỏi tổ quốc đã làm gì cho ta, hãy hỏi ta đã làm gì cho tổ quốc hôm nay'..So I don't blame my ancestors giving me a poor country..I just do as much as I can to make it better in peaceful way.
Try to remember that all countries in the world have their own "dark secrets" in term of politics, economy ... including Australia, so don't make it like the Vietnamese government is bad. Nobody is perfect, you heard this before. didn't you? Also keep in mind that Viet Nam is the only country in the world that endures one thousand plus years of non-stop war. And rebuilds itself without American financial assistance.
@zzzpqd : That's because of who.. Who have to take responsibilities.. That's a crime.. I have to tell you that.. if you are Vietnamese.. , you have to think more for your country. Talk and comment on the interest of contributing for the better in your country,, not for your own benefit or your hatred. Otherwise, nobody care about what you are talking..You know, it's nonsense..
China was a lost opportunity for me. But I will not stay back and let other tough business minded people attempt to develop relationships and business in this developing country. There are much more smarter australians doing business there, learning from the misunderstandings of the past. No use complaining, when the few that have the answers are secretly developing the right contacts, to strengthen long term business in a the last asian avenues for economic success.
HEY if you're all afraid of this COMMUNISM stuff.. you'll be surprised when you come over to VN. People were also afraid with Hong Kong being returned to Communist China, but if you go there, you'll have your ideas changed. Don't let the rubbish passed corrupt the opportunity for change. Business men that stayed in HK and VN seem to be the pioneers today, making it big in these so called DIFFICULT places. Nobody can make it anywhere alone. Smart business seems to always have good connections.
@zzzpqd : talked about communist,, 3/4 population fought for it.. It stand for our dream and love for Vietnam. You can call for democracy, reform the current political regime for the better one.. But you don't have rights to disrespect and step on our dream....You will never do anything if you still keep your hatred..Your hatred is making your brain stop working..
@zzzpqd : History seem easy to make up.. If it's so, ..I don't know..But one thing I believe it's true is that patriotism is a motivation make them continue to fight.I don't care about communism or not...What I care is what they can do to make the country better now and future...I don't care whether have paradise or not.., What I care how people try to make society better..
@zzzpqd The only things I care within my limitation are about economic and technology and my life... I am not politician, What I only can do in political world is stand and watch.. If I see any candidates who I think will make good changes.. I will support them..About history, I hope some day, it will be reviewed and you will find the position you deserve..
@candybar123486 : Any way, If some days, you want to come back to Vietnam, I hope you will have a peaceful mind to look and love the country again.. Best wishes for you..
@candybar123486 No need to make anything up, it is horrible as it is especially if you lived it.. I don't like the blame game against America. America made a home for millions who were forced out of South Vietnam, millions died trying. There are 2 million Vietnamese living in the US, each with a horror story of violence and evil. Millions of Vietnamese in exile that will never forget the evils of the communist party. America is so inviting our children become American after 1 generation.
Viet Nam's sucess today without the US financial assistance make so many people & countries jealous, like China and Australia for example. Imagine China a big country that gets rich with US money and steal US technologies, to me it's a third world country. And Australia that never seen war in its island country, is it a rich country? or is it just an English colony? I feel sorry for them.
Vietnam is definitely developing to be the awakening tiger in south east asia, that will definitely be the last of the remaining asian countries to find opportunities 2nd to China. Yeah they had their difficult history, but internationalism has allowed countries to come together and rectify issues, step by step.
This video shows the old year 2000 VN that is NOTHING like the VN today. China now is NOTHING LIKE the CHINA the world used to criticize about 15 years ago. The smart business people made the right friends and reaping the rewards with strong business. If you have a working class mind, you'll never find opportunity except one that is created for you. PIONEERS LEAD THE WAY. Exciting stuff guys, come over to HCMC.. GET EXCITED !!
Let's correct a fallacy here. The US did NOT invade Vietnam. We were asked there to assist in the resistance to communism and aggression by the government of the Republic of Viet Nam. The Americans did NOT lose the war. The communists overwhelmed the southern troops in 1975. The Americans left in 1973.
Lol.. The Vietnamese whupped the bloody thieves/rapos colonialis! Vietnam shot down 1200 huge US warplanes, killing and jailing the crews, plus untold thousands chops! Disgraceful. A poor little 3rd world nation kicked our ass! Now ameri-whiners complain 'taint fair!'
OK; Lets try Capitalism !!! How about Hard Core Capitalism ??? Yeah; that will do it !!! I got out of there in 1965. I was the Ugly American !!! Good Riddance !!!

Can anyone clarify the date of this production?
Why do they call it the "American War?" It was the Republic of South Vietnam who "lost" the war. America only lost tragically 58,000+ souls and scores of others wounded whom all are heroes.

Why are you so curious about military bases? Feeling nosy? There are numerous videos on TH-cam about world military, watch them, and stop being nosy.

No American was in democracy mode and wasn't prepared for determination , It's not like Vietnam was oil rich.
But in grand scheme of things. US just lost a political war against the eastern bloc.
BS ask LBJ?
