Is it true that when you do 4 years, that’s 4 years active and you’re still technically in the reserves for another 4 years?

    • @sergeantpeen4088
      @sergeantpeen4088 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@gangatalishis It's called the IRR (inactive ready reserve). You don't actually do anything those 4 years, but can potentially be called back to active orders if the need arises, which is extremely rare and unheard of. You can also be called in for a "muster", which is a mandatory gathering of IRR members, where they tell you about opportunities and update personal information. Otherwise, it's 4 years active (typically) and 4 years inactive, then freedom.

My advice (not a synopsis of the video...his advice is worth listening to):
    1. Community College for those first (mostly) useless years as you save the big money for the classes that matter. Get an "A.A." (Associates of Arts) so when you transfer to a "big school", the A.A. degree wipes out the "General Education" requirements (again, those useless classes like literature, philosophy, humanities, etc.).
    2. Learn to cook: high protein meat (chicken), steamed rice, and vegetables. Over and over again.
    3. Buy a used car. You don't need a 202X V8 mustang at 33% APR with no money down. Get a grocery runner, so when you graduate you can pay your student loans off fast, saving money in the long run. Nissan, Mazda, Toyota, and Honda will be your best chances for a cheap, dependable car.
    4. STEM degrees. Wanna be a server for life: get a degree in lesbian dance theory or something absolutely frivolous. Get a STEM degree, put in the HARD time (4-5 years) now, so you can have a 40 years+ life where you are living well and able to invest in yourself and the market (401K, Roth IRA, Dividend stocks, Index funds and ETFs). Invest as soon as possible, so when you're 40, you can nearly guarantee $1M+ in the market waiting for you.
    5. Live within your means. The less you spend, the more you'll have in the bank for emergencies or when something really worthwhile comes up. Limit going out for really significant milestones in your degree progress oe midterms and finals. If you frequent bars and clubs, you'll just piss alcohol through your body, and those places tend to be more trouble than they are worth. I know enough single moms who met "Mr. Pump and Dump" to back that claim.
    6. Side-hustles/passive income. Shane has hit on these in the past. One example: there are excellent websites where you can teach English to Asian students across the globe for an easy $10-$15 per hour. Super flexible schedules, upload videos when you want, and no need to put on a McD's uniform as well as gas money, wear and tear on your vehicle, and time spent going to work and coming home.
    7. Roommates if you can handle it. Choose your paths carefully here. Things won't bother you at first, but when you're under the stress of finals, and someone decides to not flush after doing a #2 in the community bathroom - trust me, you'll find your limit quickly. Network, get to know people, and if you can get a roommate to make rent easier to pay, it can be a wise alternative.
Lastly, for the ladies, OnlyFans. Kind of kidding, kind of not. Your looks WILL fade. Might as well cash-in on the Simposphere now and get your education paid off and more (Your Mileage Will Vary). Everything has a price, so if your dignity is cheap, might as well make some 💸💸💸.

@@ShaneHummus Only the best for you : ). Being 40 now, there's SO much I wish I had known, and I want younger people to have the best chance of success. The government backing loans to basically give colleges ZERO incentive to keep tuition prices low is certainly not helping them. And with the government now claiming they'll back home loans up to $1M for select buyers, I anticipate we will see the same situation in the housing market down the road. I can already see it for the younger crowd: "2000 sq ft for $750K @ 5.0% for 45 years - what a deal!!! I'll be in debt to my mortgage until I literally die!!"
And who is backing those home loans: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - who nearly destroyed the housing market in 2008-2009. What could go wrong?????
      -__________-
To the younger audience: save as much as humanly possible to get as big of a down-payment on your future home now. Aim for an absolute minimum of 20%. DON'T FALL INTO THE TRAP of 0% down. It sounds GREAT until property taxes kick in the next year and your mortgage goes from $1300 to $2500 overnight. Ask me how I know.

Served nine years in the Marine Corps, now the VA is paying for the next seven years of housing ($4,971/month) and tuition for me to enter the civilian workforce on my own terms. Let’s also not forget the $4,500/year in tuition assistance that active duty members get that goes critically underused. Half of my associates degree even came from ACE credits from service schools.

Something I’d like to point out, if you’re using FAFSA their guidelines are quite rigid actually! For older people returning to college you qualify for MUCH less than if you were fresh outta high school. Example: classmate of mine, both of us in community college. If you’re over 26, just to qualify for tuition alone your income has to remain below $20K/year. My classmate intentionally got a minimum wage job working only part time to ensure he stays below the FAFSA income ceiling. He’s stuck between a rock and a hard place because he can’t afford to pay for college alone, but if he makes too much money he can’t qualify for FAFSA to help pay for college lol so he’s basically living below the poverty line just so he can stay in school. Stupid rules will only discourage people from getting a college education ya know?

I can not stress enough earn your Assoicates of Arts/Direct Transfer degree from no name community college. you can wipe out 90-100% of those everybody has to take regardless of major classes. Many community colleges acutally have a DTA (direct transfer Assoicates degree) catered to specific majors at specific schools. Example- you want to be an accountant. Go to a local in state community college with a DTA agreement with xx in state 4 year university and the Assoicates degree you earn from them will cover every possible 100/200 level gen ed requirement and almost every possible 100/200 level accounting course. PLUS if life happens and you you need to take a couple years off before diving into a 4 year degree program, at least you have an AA degree to put on your resume.

I joined directly out of high school, served an enlistment, then applied for and attended school the month after I was discharged. The military does set you up for success in many ways. I am now in my mid twenties and hold a B.S. in biochemistry, a well paying job, own a home, and have zero debt. Don't sleep on the military as an option, I completed all of these achievements with no family support. Another benefit is that you can work toward your degree while serving, through tuition assistance. This means you could have the bulk of your degree completed while serving, and head straight into the workforce following discharge. Something for everyone to consider. Shane, you could potential make a video on this as well, it may help inform those who are unsure of what to do in life, or feel like they may not have any options.

Too bad if you have any medical condition you can’t serve. I have epilepsy. I can’t serve in the military so I can’t have those benefits. I had a friend who was going to enlist but was rejected because he was autistic.
