MNRR Hudson Line Tarrytown to 125th EXPRESS

- Railfan window view from the front of an M3 trainset as it runs express from Tarrytown to 125th St. Couldn't film into the tunnel due to a member of the crew needing to learn the physical characteristics of that part of the line.

Cane sugar is produced in a 2-step mill process. Sugar Cane goes through the first mill step within 48 hours of cutting do to it rapidly losing its sugar content. This step is where you get molasses, turbinado sugar, and Brown sugar. This is usually done near the sugar cane farms. After this, the sugar goes through the second milling process that removes the last if the molasses. This produces the white sugar crystals. The 1st milling and the 2nd milling don't have to happen together. Often what happens is the first milling is done near the farms and the second milling near the target market. That Domino sugar mill is the latter.

Thanks! Got my first look at Gotham in '65 from these rails aboard NYC's #16 from Ohio to GCT. Had a beautiful sunrise ride down from Albany back then, too. This has to be one of America's most scenic rail routes, right up there with the Coast Starlight.
flyingspotscanner The Coast Starlight is only scenic north of San Francisco. From LA to SF you want to eat your arm off after the first 6 hours due to it being an old, slow, freight route.
"S" is speed limit sign- go at speed limit

They are paranoid about the speed restriction at the curve before Spuyten Duyvil because that's where the Poughkeepsie train derailed the year prior. the NTSB made them place the speed restriction further back so as to give engineers more time to reduce speed before the 30 mile an hour curve. that Poughkeepsie train entered that particular curve before that station at 82 miles per hour. I'm actually glad to see trains going through there a bit slow because right after that curve where the accident happened there's another tight one right after the station. if an accident were to happen there there would be nowhere for that train to roll. It would roll right into the wall which would make the damage injuries and loss of life 10 times worse. at least where that accident happened there was grass and brush to lessen the blow even though it came darn close to the river. bless the person who came up with speed restrictions.

Soon after they did the poor man’s version of PTC. Southbound trains experience a permanent cab signal drop a mile or so away even though there’s no diverging switch or train ahead. Amtrak did this in a number of NEC locations decades earlier though they didn’t do it for northbound at the Frankford Junction curve until the 2015 accident.

They still hae th eold NY Central signal bridges, devoid of the signals. Don't know why this one is on the local track. From the appearance of the "express tracK", I'd say it's rarely used.
Usually the middle tracks are used for MNRR diesel trains to and from Poughkeepsie, NY

I think the camera is fully zoomed - makes it look super slow and weird.
I've measured speeds on this line with my phone. Even locals hit 70mph when they've got enough distance.

Question: im really unfamiliar with the railnetworks in NY, so what are the different systems that operate there and what lines are for which? Im asking cuz i see subway cars with train being pulled by Genesis locomotives
superROTV Metro north operates out of Grand Central Terminal and Heads Up the Hudson River on the Hudson Line. On the Harlem Line, It goes through the East Harlem/East Bronx and to wassaic. The New Haven line operates Into Connecticut along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. The Long Island Rail Road operates out of Pennsylvania Station(future grand central) and goes under the east river to serve Queens, Brooklyn, Nassau And Suffolk country. Amtrak goes all over New York State Out of Penn. All of the rails in New York(including the subway via the south Brooklyn railway) Are connected(literally)
MNRR operates diesel trains to stations outside of their electrified zone.

Did the conductor say "maintain a library like atmosphere"? Lol, funny since some libraries are like community centers especially college libraries and they can be very noisy.
Not uncommon for that to be an unspoken expectation in New York on buses for the morning rush to let people wake up. What's unusual is to hear it explicitly requested by a conductor.
Yeah very odd, when I lived in NYC, these cars were always noisy and people were talking at a normal volume, certainly not a library, Now everyone is allergic to noise lol
North 2 cars of peak weekday trains and north 1 car of off-peak weekday trains are designated quite cars. That is, for inbound peak trains, the last two cars are designated quiet cars. As they are on the first car, they don't have to follow quiet car rules.

I would love to know wat are the wires on the little gtreen towers used for I see then on the movvie nNorth by Northwest North of Harmon they are gone that part I see isit the wires that control all he switches and were thre changes when they went to CTCI think GM did want want the train swoen with eletric power so it was a E 8
david levine The lower cables are for signals, the higher ones are for traction power. Some parts of the pole line are no longer in service.

Now U know why service is dog slow on all these lines. There were designed as if they were rides for kids in Disneyland. Absurd curves, countless switches.
It's a 70mph railroad. It just looks slower.

This isn't 10 mph. Trains just feel way slower when looking from the drivers perspective
