The Plymouth Road Runner is a mid-size car with a focus on performance built by Plymouth in the United States between 1968 and 1980. By 1968, some of the original muscle cars were moving away from their roots as relatively cheap, fast cars as they gained features and increased in price. Plymouth developed the Road Runner to market a lower priced, basic trim model to its upscale GTX.
The 1973-74 models received completely new sheet metal and had more conventional squared-up front-end styling and changes to the rear that more closely resembled the four-door models than the 71-72s. In addition, the interior options included retaining power seats and windows as well as offering plusher carpeting and seat covers, moving the car to a slightly higher level of luxury. The restyling helped sales which were up 40% over the 1972 models. In testing 1/4 mile times were getting close to the 16s, top speeds had dropped to barely over 125 mph (201 km/h), and the car moved further away from "musclecar" status. The base engine for the 1973-74 models had dropped down to Chrysler's workaday 318 CID V8 but equipped with dual exhausts which bumped the power up to 170 hp (127 kW). After 1972, no 440 with four-speed manual cars were built. The code E68 400 cu in 260 hp engine was the biggest Plymouth offered with the 4-speed, which could also be had with the 340 (1973), and 360 (1974) engines. The 318 was equipped with a 3-speed manual transmission as standard (though very few were built), and the TorqueFlite as an option, though at least one 318 engine 1974 car was built with the 4-speed manual transmission equipped with a Hurst shifter. The 440 cu in engine, boasting 280 hp was still available for 1973 and 1974, but only mated to the 727 TorqueFlite automatic, with 3.55 sure-grip 8 3/4 rear axle gearing available. That's a pretty sweet build! I found AMT 's " Mopower " '74 Plymouth Satellite funny car from Spotlight Hobbies' website. The issue date was from 1975! I was just a toddler then! It built up pretty good. You can see it on Scale Auto Magazine website.

is the 70 gtx mpc kit, that one with that huge picture, kinda redish on the cover? i really would love to see a video where u/they compare the new issues made in china, with the older vintage issues, actual annual issue. To see the difference. There is some difference, maybe not much, but I'd recognize it for sure
So that's why i really would be hyped about that! I could donate you somehow for such a vid... thx for recognize, i hope so. ;-) genius at work!!

it is interesting to watch you paint because you and I do it almost the opposite way. I do my bodies from the bottom up instead of shooting the sides and top then going back. Not saying anything wrong with that, just interesting. The green really pops. I will have to get a can of that paint. Thanks for another great build video.

I had a 1974 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus that I bought new in 1974. It was a pewter silver with a black landau roof. It was a Roadrunner without the badges or power. Same body style though. I loved that car. If I remember right, my engine was blue. I am pretty sure the Roadrunner was orange.

Is this a retooled kit? I built this years ago and the detail seems better. I also remember several fit issues and it seems to have more parts, i.e. mirrors.

Pretty cool build. You forgot to try the mudge podge trick for the headlights I told you about. lol
If those left over wheels are the basic hubcaps, I think that Round2 missed an opportunity of putting more decals on the decal sheet to be able to downgrade this car into a base Satellite. But that doesn't take anything away from this kit. I've seen many people have fitting issues with previous releases. I guess Round2 fixed the molds as to fix those issues.

    • @carolinehaf21

@@carolinehaf21 When you have kits like this one with headlights that aren't made of clear plastic but part of the chrome grill, you put mod podge on the chrome lights and let it dry, and it make those lights look more like they were made of plastic/glass. As for the glossy or normal version, I guess it depend on the builder.

@@carolinehaf21 Mod Podge is good stuff. Never tried it for headlights on model cars though. I've always used it for other craft projects for its glossy finish. I've always used Testors Clear Parts Cement and Window Maker. It's almost the same consistency of white glue, but not as white in color. Easy to work with. Will not bond your fingers together like super glue does. It dries clear and is perfect for gluing clear parts.

Then wait another quarter hour, and go on with the paint job. It's a great little trick thing imo. Maybe someone gains technique out of my comment. lol

paint it yellow with the black strobe stripe and you have Daisy Duke's Road Runner car. They used a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner for season one and then used a 1972 Plymouth Satellite with a black Road Runner Stripe for season 2. You can notice the difference in the cars by the different front grills between the 71 Road Runner and 72 Satellite.
