Jeez, Mieke is a maniac! I cannot even wrap my head around working 127 hours in a week. Pretty sure, I haven't even done that as a student before exams. I was exhausted to death after two or three days already.
And thank you guys a lot for asking about what it's like to be a mom and an artist. That's a topic that is very rarely talked about and it deserves so much more attention. And overall the almost invisible role of women in the industry. Thank you guys and thank you Mieke!

I know there aren't as many in our corner of this industry, but appreciate you guys showcasing more women on the show, maybe offering a different perspective in a field dominated by very "aggressive" (read male-targeted) subject matter... and specially the details about the added pressures and pleasures of family life for both parents while staying afloat in this industry! Oh and the parallels with the film 127hours about someone cutting off their hand to save themselves was just too rich! Great episode.

Thanks for asking! All good, we just were really busy with work and life. New episode just got posted. We will continue just maybe not on a weekly basis as it just takes too much time. We have content lined up though!

Off topic ; I don't know why but while looking at the webcams I thought that you never tried to faceswap for the thumbnail. That HAS to be tried.

This makes me a bit disspointed and lost hope in going into art industry. She goes in because she has the chance and environment to go in.... because she is in first world country with good support.
I come from Malaysia which is third world country, which our country currency rate to usd is 4-1 times , and makes us unable to study the " cheap digital art ccollege online", even we work twice as hard with our currency, we will have to work and pay 4 times more than people born in better environment country.....
Kinds of makes me felt like the podcast is telling us that hardwork is not enough when your environement is against you and also being in thrid world country currencies withou scholarship, and paying very very expensive school that currency rate have to makes 4 times harder than us people even is online or physcial class....

Thanks for sharing Tony. Yes, one of the facts of life is that things are not equal for everyone, that things are not fair. But I think now is one of the times where the playing field is a lot more level than ever before. There are plenty of examples of fantastic artists from Malaysia having success, having careers, making a good living doing art. There are also plenty of countries which are in even worse positions than Malaysia. This is not to say you have it comparatively easy or the journey is not hard. The art journey is a hard journey and its anything but fair, but then again what is ... you will encounter exactly the same in other journeys that are worth embarking on.

Oh Im from Malaysia too ! I'm just starting to get into Art but I dont have enough money to go into an art school and Ive been to foundation art at a normal college but tbh they teach kindergarten style art. I have friends from art school that told me how the teachers in their school pushes them and gives them critic on how to improve and my college just says "oh this is okay" they dont even help you identify whats wrong with your work. And im an absolute beginner at art. So after foundation, it was as if iwasted my money studying there coming out learning nothing and I definitely didnt have money to continue on to another college. So I thought of self studying and I'm really planning to work hard. But like you said sometimes it depends on the environment and also how lucky you are. I honestly dont know how am I going to pull of the self taught artist hing. And if people are going to accept self taught artist nowdays especially in Malaysia where everyone wants to see a certificate of degree or diploma at least :(
