I don't disagree, the price is a bit hard to swallow. For a flagship radio, it's definitely got all the features, and what's better, it's wildly easier to use than the MT12. Are people willing to pay for that ease of use? Hard to say!
I love my NB4, and Futaba 3pv, but I dooo have an original beat up Rugged that needs replaced because the little rubber thingie for the neck strap broke off. Therefore it's no longer good and I need this new one, right?
@@scalebuildersguild the thing lots of people overlook is that they don't learn how to program the mt12 but edge-tx in general. and once they get the hang of it, they can use any radio that runs edge-tx (or mostly the older open-tx too) from the get go. yes, the initial learning curve is steep, but there ist tons of help and tutorials online, simply because it's an universal, open system.
That “animated interior” is just bad ass!! And yes it definitely adds to the realism. But unfortunately, most people won’t take the time to do it like you. That why we watch!!!
I'll keep my 10px and 7pxr not going to even taste the spektrum koolade again. Started racing rc in 94' had a Futaba move forward a some years got a airtronics m8 left the rc hobby after the b4/t4 for a while got back in with the first gen scx10 got a dx3r pretty good radio got out a few years later. Finally got back in and back to racing some vintage rc10s crawlers rc drifting and a king hauler went back to Futaba. Futaba has more channels, faster boot, you want buttons you got it, want to have toggles its got it, also dont get me started on racing good luck to them. I got my 10px for $660 brand new with a F-4G receiver shipped to my door. Who needs wifi and bluetooth on a controller in 2024 ive got a smartphone with internet also can make phone calls better flash light too. Not to mention all the other better radios for less money but to the statement that its easy to setup taking two steps out or making a menu ask you does it have this or this doesn't mean easier. Its hand holding most people wanting 4 wheel steering are smart enough to set that up and on most radios but you can toggle it without going to a menus unlike this radio. I've held one at this point looks cheap feels cheap, weight is the same as a dx5 pro (1.5lbs give or take) and from what i can tell the same software as a dx6r with the same problems. No way i would use this for racing
They did great work on them, but 911s were never crawlers. I guess that's why I wasn't as into those builds. Same with everyone's VW Beetle crawlers. Beetles made great Baja Bugs, but not 4x4s. I know everybody loves 'em, but.

I don’t really know why but I have been building single seater buggies, deliberately with only room for one person. I am very happy to include a driver figure. Having seen the attitude of Josh I now even call my action figures “ dolly “ . When I started playing RC off-road vehicles (1985 ish ) a driver figure was mandatory.

Can also imagine Josh going "Why are we not moving?" 😅 The "scaler" the better, an interior is good, a moving interior is awesome! 👍👍👍 I don't think I need my RC radio to be a smartphone... I have one in my pocket all the time. I guess it opens some possibilities... Left handed driving, now that's nice and there're not much brands offering that. I see some good features, some neet bells and whistles, and I bet the quality is good, that's cool. 700g, slow start up and that price tag? I think they're not being competitive with this one. We'll see. Luckily my simple needs are fulfilled with a programmable 6ch Radiolink system. 60/70€. 😁 Cheers!
The radiomaster mt12 4-1 is definitely staying my goto transmitter. At this price it doesn't offer enough to even remotely make me think of this radio.
Fair enough! I really like my MT12 as well, and for the price, it's hard to beat. A lot of people will struggle with the programming language of the MT12, and some prefer the convenience of a simpler setup process and SMART tech. Luckily, we all get to choose for ourselves!
I love my MT12, but it is definitely not the easiest to program. I'm still waiting on EdgeTX Companion support so I can do the programming a lot easier. The joys of early adoption lol

Wicked radio, Let me know how this new radio fairs long term as i'm thinking about getting one of this beast of a radio sometime late this year or early next year i have a Radiolink RC8X which is by far one of the worst radios i ever owned when it came to reliability. but i still want a fancy computer\smart touchscreen radio and also has a stability control or gyro built in the receivers for my on road speedrun builds and since i plan to stick to mostly Horizon based cars i want a fancy Spektrum radio to bind to them.
That controller is pretty awesome. It would be cool if it had a drone camera that had a wireless tether. You could set the drone to follow and record you. Or even set it to follow the car. If you read this spektrum, alls i want in return is a few production run samples 😁 y'all have a badass day 🤘🍻🤘

Love the mixing to get Josh’s action based on throttle. The transmitter looks nice, but I don’t need another smart phone on the trail. I will be wondering if the radio is not responsive because it was too busy with a weak signal to sync my email. I would much rather have a dedicated operating system for the radio than a general purpose one I have to keep patching and doing things I don’t need it to do. I have been burned twice by hardware that was still functional, but Google decided I could no longer use it due to the age of the OS.
I need to re-watch the Porsche series for some info. I want to make a mold of a cliffhanger cab so I can make a carbon fiber version. $700 transmitter? I’ll mount my phone to my MT12 and do the same thing lol. Oh, if you’re not a gold level ding dong, you’re missing out!
Looks like a refreshed dx6r. My only complaint was the battery life with that radio, but since they have added a car battery to it, that should have solved that problem. 😂

Looks like exactly the same software as my nearly 10 year old DX6R, which I love. But they haven’t released any updates for it in years. I may have to upgrade.
In my opinion part of the radio test should be a measure of the time between each battery charge. It’s all very good having a colour screen with an extra telephone that doesn’t make phone calls ( or does it? ) but what is the point if you can’t drive a trail for hours between charging. Is there a switch to turn that screen completely off ? Etc. What is the weight compared to a basic rtr ? A drop test , in water please.
Great Review of the Spektrum iXSR. Is the Raceware program better refined from DX6R? I still like my DX6R but can the models exported from that TC and work with the iXSR since it's the same program? Or are there differences that would prevent that?
I have an answer for you direct from Spektrum: The answer is yes you should be able to. The only caveat is that it depends on the version of 6R. Make sure Bluetooth is on both radios. On the iXSR if you go into the Models page, tap the picture on the upper right. Select Receive via Bluetooth. It should allow you to connect to the 6R and choose the model.

The version I have is the latest offered for the DX6R and the firmware was also updated in October 2022 when I had to send it in to get the 'Radio' part replaced when it stopped working between the TX and RX.
The iXSR is the RC equivalent of Serge's Annihilator 2000. The effort would have been better spent making a universal dock controller base for a phone paired with iOS/Android apps in lieu of the screen.

I’m interested in a new transmitter. I think the Android system is fine because it removes the normal proprietary operating system that can easily get outdated quickly and gives a system that can easily be updated by Spektrum on the actual app on the Google play store. The proprietary nature of most transmitters is along the same issue I have with astronomy/telescope operating systems for my other hobby. All the companies have 30 year old systems that only certain things can be updated. For Android or Apple OS they can actually change the whole screen if they wanted so it’s more unlimited. I totally get the fascination of the MT12 but until someone builds a nice, user friendly frame work we can easily download to use its more less a frustrating brick to most of of the community that just wants to power up a radio and know how to use it. For me the iX Spektrum is too pricey and the new Noble NB4+ does about 85%of it for half the cost so I’m leaning in that direction
The dropped steering wheel and weight are two major strikes for me - the price is the final strike. Dont think I'll be getting this one unless those change. I need a new radio too and have hit max model count in my old dx5c a long time ago. It woulda been nice to easily export the models from that to something new.
It's called a Spotter, and pretty common at full sized events. Josh is an excellent coach, and I wouldn't have done as well as I did without his coaching.
Damn I have only just got my DX6 programmed for all my fleet, now I will have to start again with this one. So a freebie so can I have it when you are done I wonder what my DX6 is worth used but not abused. Why for your handbrake lever in the shift cradle are you adding dial facia decals, I wish the Knight stuff was done for large scale 1/5th/6th &7th hmm what is the calculation to 1/6th +120%
Provided you share a wifi signal with it, yep! I'm sure you could also load a bunch of playlists onto the SD card too. It's basically a tablet that also happens to be a Spektrum transmitter.
Matt it's just a upgrades DX6R and spekrum should offer the guy with the DX6R a trade in for the IXSR because the DX6R was a flop they release it to fast with to many issues
@@scalebuildersguildit is alot of money both the dx5c and dx5 Pro have been excellent transmitters and receivers. Never any interference, they never break and offer tremendous range. Not to mention the telemetry. It makes sense for ne since I run all Spektrum in my 6s Arrma's and Scx6. If I did not, then no, the price would be to steep. Altgough , the system works exexcellent in the new Redcat Valkyrie.
If I install calling app, some messenger for example, and someone calls me, does the control app goes to background and model loses control? Or android alarm clock, or any other myriad stuff on Android that love to pop up. Neh, Android and real-time-control do not go well together. While rest of the world try to put as little layers between controls and model, this goes opposite direction.
Spectrum gives the government all of your information. They are an industry leader, just go buy anything that flies with their electronics , they watching.
The Radiomaster uses entirely different protocols, open-source software, etc. The programming is vastly different for the end user as well. It's good to have choices, but the pricing is hard to swallow!
Anything is easy to program compared to the Radiomaster, LOL. Also, no way I'm dropping coin like that on a Spektrum. Biased hatred from way back in their early days, LOL

Didn't work with the DX6R and won't work here. The DX6R was a disaster and the iXSR is basically a redesigned DX6R. And $700 when you can have an open source radio like the MT12 for a fraction of the cost?! Spekteum is out of touch - hard pass for me!

Does Horizon Spektrum really think this will be a success? There are so many options out there that surpass the capabilities of this thing for a much lower price. I think they’re delusional. I’m an aircraft guy mostly, and I changed to RadioMaster more than a year ago and never looked back. My IX12 (also android-based) was comparatively awful. The android nonsense is a gimmick.
The pricing really leaves a lot to be desired. For many it will miss the mark, but with Flagship radios, I don't think volume sales is ever what they make them for.
It doesn't do it all. It's overpriced dx5, imo it's a waste of time honestly, nobody wants to take a 700.00 radio out near cliffs and streams. My turbo racing has 3 channels comes with a receiver and on Amazon was only 70.00 u.s. dollars

I doubt that any of those glitches you describe are possible, provided it isn’t attached to wifi. But yes, the price is tough!

I’m interested in a new transmitter. I think the Android system is fine because it removes the normal proprietary operating system that can easily get outdated quickly and gives a system that can easily be updated by Spektrum on the actual app on the Google play store. The proprietary nature of most transmitters is along the same issue I have with astronomy/telescope operating systems for my other hobby. All the companies have 30 year old systems that only certain things can be updated. For Android or Apple OS they can actually change the whole screen if they wanted so it’s more unlimited. I totally get the fascination of the MT12 but until someone builds a nice, user friendly frame work we can easily download to use its more less a frustrating brick to most of of the community that just wants to power up a radio and know how to use it. For me the iX Spektrum is too pricey and the new Noble NB4+ does about 85%of it for half the cost so I’m leaning in that direction
The dropped steering wheel and weight are two major strikes for me - the price is the final strike. Dont think I'll be getting this one unless those change. I need a new radio too and have hit max model count in my old dx5c a long time ago. It woulda been nice to easily export the models from that to something new.
Can you mount the steering wheel further up, like it's on the MT12?
There's provisions to move it around a bit, I think some enterprising designers will design all sorts of relocation mounts.

It's called a Spotter, and pretty common at full sized events. Josh is an excellent coach, and I wouldn't have done as well as I did without his coaching.

Why for your handbrake lever in the shift cradle are you adding dial facia decals, I wish the Knight stuff was done for large scale 1/5th/6th &7th hmm what is the calculation to 1/6th +120%
There’s np shifter option for this interior.The calculation you’ll have to do yourself, as nothing is ever exactly the scale they list.
Can it play YT music while you drive your car? Listening to music with my headphones while driving my rigs makes it more epic IMO.
Provided you share a wifi signal with it, yep! I'm sure you could also load a bunch of playlists onto the SD card too. It's basically a tablet that also happens to be a Spektrum transmitter.
The description on Horizon Hobby does say 6 channel.

Matt it's just a upgrades DX6R and spekrum should offer the guy with the DX6R a trade in for the IXSR because the DX6R was a flop they release it to fast with to many issues
The only thing those two radios shared was a similar OS and Android. Otherwise, it's a completely new radio.

@@scalebuildersguildit is alot of money both the dx5c and dx5 Pro have been excellent transmitters and receivers. Never any interference, they never break and offer tremendous range. Not to mention the telemetry. It makes sense for ne since I run all Spektrum in my 6s Arrma's and Scx6. If I did not, then no, the price would be to steep. Altgough , the system works exexcellent in the new Redcat Valkyrie.

If I install calling app, some messenger for example, and someone calls me, does the control app goes to background and model loses control? Or android alarm clock, or any other myriad stuff on Android that love to pop up. Neh, Android and real-time-control do not go well together. While rest of the world try to put as little layers between controls and model, this goes opposite direction.

The Radiomaster uses entirely different protocols, open-source software, etc. The programming is vastly different for the end user as well. It's good to have choices, but the pricing is hard to swallow!

Didn't work with the DX6R and won't work here. The DX6R was a disaster and the iXSR is basically a redesigned DX6R. And $700 when you can have an open source radio like the MT12 for a fraction of the cost?! Spekteum is out of touch - hard pass for me!

they screwed up you can't take anything over 9999ah battery on a airplane LOL and wow that is a AWESOME pos case it comes in nope waste of $700 for me also when i raced short course trucks and buggy had nothing but issues with Spektrum

Does Horizon Spektrum really think this will be a success? There are so many options out there that surpass the capabilities of this thing for a much lower price. I think they’re delusional. I’m an aircraft guy mostly, and I changed to RadioMaster more than a year ago and never looked back. My IX12 (also android-based) was comparatively awful. The android nonsense is a gimmick.
The pricing really leaves a lot to be desired. For many it will miss the mark, but with Flagship radios, I don't think volume sales is ever what they make them for.

It doesn't do it all. It's overpriced dx5, imo it's a waste of time honestly, nobody wants to take a 700.00 radio out near cliffs and streams. My turbo racing has 3 channels comes with a receiver and on Amazon was only 70.00 u.s. dollars
