Some of what they said was lies, but they intentionally included some half truths (like Jeff not trusting Shelli) in order to make their pitch more believable.
They basically acquired some lightly damaging info on Jeff and turned it into a molehill to push him off of. After all, Vanessa needed an excuse to send Jeff home without pissing off the High Rollers.
