Thanks Jay, I'll be trying this myself and please thank your wife for me. She was absolutely correct! I am a gal and I needed to see the details.

Cool video, why didn't you and a 6" pvc spout for pumping and come up just where you could cover it with a cap and then dirt and gravel?

Curious did you need to do your square lid this way? Why not measure and use 2×4s for a mold? (Obviously you would need correct bevel angle)

How did you get the old one out? The one my guy is working on is stuck so bad the handle broke off. He's trying to cut away at the concrete but doesn't want b to drop any concrete pieces in the tank itself ... As that can cause pumping issues 😳 any ideas how to cut out pieces of the lid without it falling inside?

Hi Cheryl, I used a large pry bar with a couple of friends helping. If you can't get it pried up, you might try drilling a couple holes with a masonry bit and using some rebar bent at 90 degrees to lift it out. hope this helps!

That will work if your hole is circular and smooth. Mine was irregular and had been chipped away over the years, so it needed a custom fit.

Check your hole, mine is 24" across one diagonal and 24 3/4 the other, so...

Get a riser with a cap. Easier, faster, never have to dig out the lid again.

What if you just put a riser with cap you don't need the cement lid?

@@DontTrustAnybody75 One of my cement lids is decayed and almost fell into the tank. I called three different septic tank installers/cleaners and they all said the lower cement lid is not necessary. Only the top cap is required. They said they do not install the cement lid looks to be failing. My septic has a heavy metal manhole type cover. Dont know if that matters. Call around and ask.

Qwikrete? How did you cut rebar? What type of handle? Thank you!

Cut the rebar with a hack saw & made the handle by bending rebar with a vise. Good luck!

Hi Michele, sorry this took so long to respond to. I cut the rebar with a hack saw and used the rebar for reinforcement as well as the handle.
