This movie is not about politics. It is about people's lives at that time.
Like us, they cooked, laughed, fell in love, and sometimes got jealous.
But the war changed their everyday lives.
The movie says war can destroy our lives in a moment.
I felt like I lost close friends and I cried.
I agree with you except for only one point.
I don't think the war destroyed their lives in meanings.
Suzu san had continued their lives in a miserable environment.
She said that was their battle. and she had achieved anyway.
I think this movie tried to tell us there were lives even the war cannot destroyed.

This movie is a masterpiece. In my humble opinion, I would rank it among the greatest animation movies ever made
I cried... it touched me and moved me. It showed me... how simple and beautiful life is beyond all odds. Life is somehow like a war in its own way, but it comes to an end... eventually peace prevails...we live, we laugh, we love, we believe, we fight what we believe in, we win, we loose...If you look at the larger picture.... life is only as easy as breathing..

オーストラリアに留学中、私は戦争について現地学生に教えました。人種がちがう。私自身長崎出身の母をもつ。つまり被爆4世が私です。だから最初は抵抗がありました。たどたどしい英語だったからバカにされました。でもしっかり話を聴いてくれた人もいますし、戦争の悲惨さに息を飲む姿を見て人種が違っても同じ人間であるとはこういうことかと思いました。
私の義母も長崎で被爆しました。
あなたは私に出来ない事をして下さいました。

a wonderful movie. Definitely one of those animated film that I will look back into from time to time.
I've watched this film 2 times in Japan. This is classic.
This is honestly one of my favorite movies now. It was beautifully animated and the story was grate and powerful, I cried like two times from the emotion and the overall struggle they went through. Anime like this is always my favorite

人殺しをする戦争が悪い。。。。のですが、当時のルールを破り、一般市民に原爆を投下したのは米国ですよ。それでも日本が悪いのですか？同じ日本人がこれほど苦しんだのに、自虐的になる教育も嫌。

確かに原爆を落とした当時のアメリカも倫理的にどうかしてたと思いますが、結局それが戦争なんですよね。それを今さらどちらかの非にした所で、これからの世代同士が過去のことで諍いあっては意味がありませんし。第一、アメリカ人の大半も真珠湾攻撃を引き合いに出すでしょうから、最初からそういった善悪の話は決着しないものですね…。
義務教育での歴史は過去の過ちを学ぶもので、どちらが悪い、と議論するものではありませんから（あくまで私の考えです）
アメリカが悪いとか、日本も悪いとかじゃない。皆、生きるためだった。生きるために必死だった。

Though I enjoyed this film and it's unique perspective on Japanese civilian life during WW2, I still firmly believe that the destruction of the Empire of Japan by the Allies was a wholly justifiable act.
What a horrible human being to justify the atomic bomb．laughable
No one said it was not a justifiable act. And this movie was just portraying the civillians at that time, nothing about validating wars.

Great movie, worthy of Oscar consideration. Too bad it tried to emulate the Ghibli style too much. I feel while doing that, people would flock to it thinking its a Ghbli film and its not standing on its feet to be seen like as its own entity, like it should. But I dont blame them, its a good marketing strategy duping the Ghiblitards. Now I am waiting for A Silent Voice to come to theaters in a few weeks.

You should read the original manga with the same name, since the movie is portrayed exactly like manga, i dont think they try to make something like ghibli or anything

家族なくして一人になった人とかなりやすそう、誰にも知られずに自殺したから周囲の人も鬱病だったとか分かりようがないだろうし
鬱病だから無理なんて言う人は居なかったでしょうが、鬱病の人はいっぱい居たと思いますよ
