- Jiro dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni. Nearsighted from a young age and thus unable to become a pilot, Jiro joins the aircraft division of a major Japanese engineering company in 1927. His genius is soon recognized, and he grows to become one of the world's most accomplished airplane designers.
The Wind Rises chronicles much of his life, and depicts key historical events that affected deeply the course of Jiro's life, including The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, The Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic, and Japan's plunge into war. He meets and falls in love with Nahoko, grows and cherishes his friendship with his colleague Honjo, and innovates tremendously, leading the aviation world into the future.
#HayaoMiyazaki brings together the engineer Jiro Horikoshi and the author Tatsuo Hori, who lived during the time of the story of #TheWindRises, to create Jiro, a fictional character at the center of an epic tale of love, perseverance, and the challenges of living and making choices in a turbulent world.

When it said "Farewell Masterpiece," I think a part of me died. We love you. Miyazaki! Don't leave us too long, Ghibli Studios!
He didn't leave! Or did he?
He's like a cat, he comes and goes...
@@pont1695 he’s not a cat, but the wind
Well he's making a new film set for 2023 I think
I also want to see this after 9 years first time
There are great endings to stuff that i love
The World's End (the third and final installment in the three flavored cornetto trilogy)
Before Midnight (The third and final installment in the Before Trilogy)
Toy Story 3 (Third and Final Installment in the Toy Story Trilogy)
Breaking Bad Season 5
The Sopranos Season 6
Mad Men Season 7
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2
The Wind Rises (Hayao Miyazaki's Final Film before Retirement)
And even with music like
Whitney Houston's 2009 album I Look to You, her final Song "Celebrate" which she recorded 4 days before she died, her "Nothing but Love Tour" which went from 2009-2010
Beastie Boys Hot Sauce Committee Album before the unfortunate passing of Adam Yauch in 2012
And David Bowie's Blackstar Album released 2 days before he died.
Goodbyes may be hard but memories will live on forever
I think I speak for everyone when I say that this should've won over Frozen.
Best film of 2013.

The Wind Rises is top-tier, but it's not even the best Ghibli film of 2013.
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is even better.
honestly any film should have won
@@HydraSpectre1138 well I didn't watch tale of kaguya but wind rises is my favorite ghibli movie ever. So I don't know if it can beat it
This is still my favorite Ghibli Movie even after many years. Watch it a couple of times already but still have the same emotions. Such a masterpiece.
Me too. 😊

ClariiTaGigii He's retiring; The Wind Rises will be his last film.
What do you mean? He is still alive!!! July 2022

Miyazaki has been making "Farewell Masterpieces" since 1997. It's been a long goodbye.
lol I snorted reading that last comment XD
This trailer will always give me goosebumps like it is doing currently.
Kinda funny to the editor who worked their butt off to make this, saying it's the farewell masterpiece, when here we are nine years later and Miyazaki got pulled into doing oooonnneee more. His talent and the talent of this crew is unmatched though.
This movie, although not miyazaki's last as we thought, still is one of the best of the ghibli catalogue. The beauty of every scene is amazing, and the simplicity of the story is its strongest point.
Of course, it wasn't well recieved by the united states because of the simple fact that it portrays the war from another angle. I've read people calling it morally repulsive, wich is complete bullshit: Jiro doesn't design planes made to kill people, he designs planes because he thinks they're beautiful.
And we see many signs within the movie that point out the awfulness of war. Miyazaki is completely against war from both the "good" and the "bad side", and if you've seen his movies, you know that: he doesn't side with anyone, he simply tells a story of good people who have the bad luck to be stuck in war, and these people aren't bad for being on the opposite side of war, they're simply people, because in war, there's no bad people, just people who follow orders from individuals with too much power.
Calling this movie morally repulsive would be like calling a documentary about the "Manhattan project" disgusting propaganda about brutal homicide, or also calling The Grave of the Fireflies morally repulsive, just because these kids happened to be japanese and deserved to suffer for their leaders.
Yeah.. one of the main messages of The Wind Rises is cursed dreams, but in such to say that out of all of humanity what we may love could be cursed to us somehow. That’s what dreams are, and what we love could be apart of, but it’s the fact on Miyazaki’s perspective, as a man which was born in a time of war, and experienced the machines and bombs that possibly his dad created, he wanted to show that his dad and other plane designers such as Jiro may have not seen or thought upon that aspect. In fact they found beauty of it, not seeing through eyes for it to be tools made for war.
“Planes are beautiful cursed dreams, waiting for the sky to swallow them up” -Caproni
The trailers enough to leave you in tears. The films enough to leave you sobbing.
I've always loved these kinds of coming-of-age stories about real people who overcome struggles and do great things, because they are extremely personifying and will always give you relatable moments. I promise you, these stories are occurring right now everywhere in the world. Even to you, dear TH-cam commenters: Look back to your childhood and reflect on events around you. The good ones, the bad ones, the inspiring ones, and downright evil ones. They made you who you are, but as an adult you must strive to bring it to its full potential.
For example, this reminds me of my little brother. We grew up in a large town in the middle of the rolling green mountains. When I was a young boy, we moved to one of the few flat places in the valleys of our region when he was just starting to speak, so naturally there was an airport with some regional flights. Sure enough, my brother is becoming a pilot, and I fear if war is really ahead of us with the other world superpower, he will be one of the first to be drafted.
The movie was beautiful. PLEASE take the time to watch this film
New miyazaki film announced! Because even retirement can't stop him teaching us new ways to look at the world around us, and all the faces of love.
Hayao Miyazaki, you are truly amazing. We'll all miss you.
I can’t recall the last time I cried as much as I did watching this. Miyazaki's historical melodrama is breathtakingly gorgeous and not only does it evoke strong emotions in viewers, but also encourages them to reflect on the past and present. After years of being inspired by Italian aeronautical designer Caproni and dreaming of creating his dream plane, aviation-obsessed engineer Jiro Horikoshi finally managed to fulfill his ambitions. However, his world comes crashing down when he learns that his prized creation will serve as a weapon used for battle in World War II.
Highlighting the significance of pursuing one's dreams and celebrating inspiration and craftsmanship, The Wind Rises is an essential Studio Ghibli watch that everyone should check at least once.
Journal entries from the real life Jiro Horikoshi reveal he was actually very against the war despite designing fighter planes. He knew he was making a military aircraft of course, but Japan entering the war suddenly blindsided him. And he had bad feelings about it from the start, knowing Japan would end up suffering too much, since he was globally educated and knew the industrial strength that the United States had.
This movie has a very special place in my heart, as a lover of engineering and the art within it (the story also broke my heart)
Me too. I can understand why kids who love the fantasy and wonder of Studio Ghibli might find it boring or not really understand it. but as an engineering student and being passionate about airplanes (especially WW2 planes) since I was a kid, this is my favorite movie of all time
This looks incredible... I will miss Miyazaki's films :')
The story of this movie made me cry and happy, the meaning of a bitter life, scared by the urge to live for the sake of a career, the meaning of a love life to legitimize each other's sacrifices of husband and wife and wife with full of enthusiasm to fight the disease that continues to give encouragement to her husband to succeed. .and I really like this movie Ghibli you are the best I like your work I am interested in your work because there are many morals and civics in the sense of human life good job Ghibli
There is great news!!!
Miyazaki is making a new film!!
It’ll be a farewell masters....
Some yers later: Miyazaki is making his fourth farewell masterpiece!!
The animation is so smooth and the back round is so colorful.
This movie was AMAZING! GO SEE IT! NOW!
ANYONE IN HERE??
Happy 10th anniversary to The Wind Rises!
Released 07/20/2013!
I watch this almost every day. At first Naoko's death breaks me, but now I think Jiro is just so selfish. Coming from a wealthy family he was afforded that luxury of being able not to notice certain things. Like when he takes the train to go work at Mistubishi and he was surprised at all the country people walking the tracks into the city. He sends Naoka a note saying he can't live without her, causing her to leave the hospital to her doom. He says he wants to create beautiful planes but created one of the most lethal killing machines of WW2.
"the final masterpiece" WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT
Your comment is already 9 years old now🎉😂

This movie made me cry more than any other Ghibli movie
Then you haven't seen grave of the fireflies, thankfully.

THE WIND RISES - Official Australian Trailer. In cinemas Feb 27, 2014. Visit www.thewindrises.com.au for more details.
My friends like Ghibli, but nothing I say can make them watch/appreciate this movie. It’s one of my favourite Ghibli movies, up there with Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. Maybe it’s the fact there are no spirits, creepiness or murder like in Prin Mononoke. I find this movie interesting and beautiful and exciting, but other of my friends just don’t see it, they think it’s boring, but it is an incredibly beautiful and realistic masterpiece. (And very sad too. I cry at the end every time.)
This movie should have won a Oscar and not Frozen as much I like Disney I think these films are better than Disney and Pixar
one of the most overwhelmingly beautiful movies icl
That should've won best animation at the oscars.
"The Farewell Masterpiece"
Jontron: That one didn't age quite so well.
Absolutely adore this film
Una obra maestra. Hermosa de inicio a fin. Debe ser de las más bellas jamás dibujadas.
What a masterpiece😢

"The farewell Masterpiece."
Oooh, Miyazaki! You old scamp, you! 😆
They should have made a film about Noguchi of Hamgyong who was hardly ever recognized for cosmic ray muon catalyzed cryogenic deuterium fusion rocket plane engines.
美しい風のような映画
0:49 ❤❤❤
When you watch this after the film Oppenheimer and realize Christopher Nolan just made a lesser version of this film.
they should be seen back to back
Watched this movie today, such a great animation aviation movie.
I love Miyazaki.
I mean lots of anime studios will come and go but there's no one who can match the animation level like Ghibli gives to us ❤
Best film EVER
OMGGGGGG Finally!!!!! Thanks for bringing it here Madman!!!
My heart can't take this movie 😭 Husband n I cried during the end of this movie ❤
Best movie i ever watched im a science student btw ❤
isn't this to be old? it looks amazing
One of the best anime movies I've ever seen ! Legend.
Up there with the best
“The farewell masterpiece.” Meanwhile Miyazaki, 10 years later: “nah, this time for real. Maybe. 👀”
This movie was an emotional gut-punch.
this looks like it don't got any weird magic, gonna watch it
This movie DESTROYED me when i first saw it.
"Farewell Masterpiece"
*The Boy and The Heron enters the chat*
What do they mean the farewell masterpiece?!?! No!
drunkballerina89 his last film.
Dont-be Evil to be fair he has said that in the past.
Jonathan Canfield its 2015. I haven't heard anything about a new film from him.
Dont-be Evil i know.i was just saying he has said that the movie he currently is working on will be his last and come back after a bit of a time even some people who worked with him for years have said they don't believe he is truly retired.
perhaps he is truly done though as he is getting to the age where the stress could be getting to be to much.
but only time will tell.
this is my favorite movie by ghibli
The flight he made rised with wind but his love lost in the wind💔
somebody compared this movie to Nolans Oppenheimer.
But the film has an eerie beauty to it. talking about Manns Magic Mountain, tuberculosis, war etc.
in anticipation of the boy and the heron
This movie should have won a Oscar instead of Frozen
Nice...
This was a interesting film. Very artistic.
Does anyone know the name of the song?
i cant wait to see it:)
Asombroso... GENIAL
YOU"VE NEVER SEEN SO MUCH GREEN>

Grazie Maestro.Un Italiano
Who watch this before Oppenheimer?
What’s the song?

Link for full movie???
Tidak disangka ternyata ini anime tentang BJ.Habiebie😊
You put a b17 in your film what sort of studio dose that!?
A... good one?
There was a man like the main character of this film in Indonesia he called as B. J. Habibie.
Where can I watch it? I’m living in Europe
I'm not sure if it's available in Europe as well. But Netflix has it in my region
Damn i just watch this last night and was really good .. damn I still can't believe about the ending .. fuck why they were perfect to each other
Where to watch it?
I watched it last night, I loved the romance between the two main characters, but other than that I thought the story was kind of boring and the ending really sad. It would’ve been better if it focused more on the characters’ romance. If you want a movie with a more engaging story with romance and a better ending than you’d be better off watching Howl’s moving castle.
Howls Moving Castle is my least favorite Ghibli film. I think that focusing solely on the characters’ romance would lead to a bland format. The idea of depicting beauty among the harrowing outcomes of WWII is a great one.

Where I can watch those movies?
Most of ghibli movies are on netflix including this one.
Netflix is generally a very unreliable source as it will remove and add stuff unless it’s a Netflix original but it is on hbo. Except for grave of fireflies, they are all there

HBO Max
2024? Who is here
Last.
Who here after zach b
Now this is a trailer... trailers that just play and spoil the big parts of the movie are pointless and ruin the movie
