Monored is so insanely busted that wotc had to give their opponents a whole cycle of common lands that come untapped on turn 2, so they can at least get to cast a removal spell before dying.
@@Kuryux Sure, but even if they don't do it right away they could easily do something like, 5 more verges in the racing set and then do the other 10 around the same timing next year
Good thing they banned Nadu, Dissection Tools could just be another Shuko in that deck. With a Nantuko or two out you're nearly getting an unlimited number of 1/1's to sacrifice and then it just becomes a better Shuko. I realize it's not as good because you won't always have the cards to sacrifice, but I'm just saying Nadu is still legal on Arena, so I *could* see this being played if you're not playing red to have the thing that makes equipments every turn.
Marvin is scary because of Chord of Calling. You can just have Marvin + a random dude, then Chord for something that just goes immediately infinite. I haven't put much thought into it yet but there's a lot of nonsense possible.
This set has canonized cassette tapes, television, roller coasters, cheerleaders, and basketball. Kind of makes all the hand-wringing over putting guns into MTG seem kind of silly in hindsight
6:54 it is, but you didnt mention that it is a GY hate card you can play to counter GY hate: when your opponent exiles your stuff with cards like Hearse or Lantern, you put them inside the Vacuum, then release them to somewhat get around GY hate
Having a Batterskull for Historic/Timeless is a pretty big deal, and I actually think Dissection Tools might just be better than Batterskull as a SFM target. It has Equip: Flip your Ajani and in Brainstorm formats it can clear your Brainstorm or maybe finesse a Ragavan or Pride underneath the manifest dread.
Guesses before watching: Best in Show: Verge lands. Untap lands early on, and untap dual lands later. Yep, that's good. Sleeper: Dissection Tools. "We have Batterskull at home" the card. The equip cost is an uncapped creature sac trigger, and there are cards like One Last Job that suddenly become much more playable because this exists. Trap: Triskaidekalands. Slow-lands, but worse. If you're using a deck that can get someone to 13 health by T3, fastlands should be better every time. They're common for a reason, yet I still saw hype for them. Bombin' Common: Glimmerlight. A shortsword that triggers eerie. Never the best, but always playable.
The Triskaidecalands (nice name btw) fall into the category of "early game tapped, late game untapped" lands. They are also the first common duals that can etb untapped. I'm not a huge fan bcs I think we habe an overabundance of common duals now, but interesting design nonetheless.
I think Keys to the House will see standard play. Some doors cost 7-8 mana to unlock so this is a mega ritual for those. It doesn't have to be a room deck per say. You just need to play 8 payoff rooms maybe to make keys an include.
Marvin doesn't work with Planeswalkers because it says all activated abilities of *creatures* you control, but I do see it being played in combo decks just for an extra copy or two of their most important piece. I don't know if it'll see much standard play but I do think it has potential to be the most expensive card from this set.
I think is mistaking the activation cost of the new lands. They make the top mana always (let's say green), and if you have a Forest or Mountain it makes red. So you can use them for splashing red (if you are mainly a green deck), or for splashing green if you are a red deck (because it works like a forest than when you control a mountain, you also can get red). I think he's slightly misunderstanding how they work.
for the pick your poison part isn't it kind of an upside? if the opponent is siding in that card (and I'm playing a tap land just because it's an enchantment) I'm assuming I'm playing a deck based on enchantments that I do not want to bin, so I can sacrifice a land instead of my precious thing on the board that is maybe a red overlord with impending that I definetly want on field
@@barbedwire9975 if you play it before any other enchantment yes it's stone rain 1 mana, but having the option to lose a piece or lose a land is 100% better than just losing the piece
@@barbedwire9975 maybe you still sacrifice the other enchantment, but sometimes you sacrifice your land and keep maybe an overlord that is sneakily am inferno titan
@@blahxdx yeah, in the specific situation where you have only one or 2 lands in play, one of them had to be that one because you had no other lands in hand and you did not play an enchantment yet in your enchantment deck it's a really bad thing in the much more likely situation where I have my enchantments on field and my opponent tries to remove one with pick your poison I can sac my land instead of those
can we have like just the best for constructed or something? these video reviews are nice, but mixing limited with constructed for the whole thing makes them waaay too long T_T
So many rare lands in a set will ruin Limited for that set, as well as serve as a lot of the reason Arena's economy is so bad. Thanks Wizards, now just to play the game, I need to blow around 24 wildcards. And if I see them in Limited, they're a disappointment 99% of the time, with that other 1% being the off-chance they wheel back to me in draft. That's going to make for a really bad Limited experience, as well as a terrible pack opening experience. I really wish Wizards would stop with making playable lands rare. They can be uncommon. It only helps the game. Valgavoth's lair being a synergy card I can see being at rare, despite how bad it is on its own. That could be the one for the set. But instead they keep making new rare land cycles that every deck is going to want to play in constructed and pass in Limited, and that's still terrible design. Always has been.
A half second of my time.
It took me so little time, after watching the video i wanted to press like, noticed that i already did! Cant remember when though.... Hmmm..
And just a little bit more
I dunno it was more like three seconds for me
half a second of my time

Not cool! 👽
Half second I owe you for all the great set reviews
Best set reviews on TH-cam not to hate on anyone else, these are all just quality
I always come to him for my set reviews. Consistent, reliable, accurate.
That opening was terrifying lol. Gave me Rivendell Bilbo vibes.
Talk about design space for lands, the Verges are a 20 card cycle so they're set for rare duals for three more sets.
unlikely for them to complete all 20, Im guessing we getting 10 at best in the foreseeable future
@@Kuryux Sure, but even if they don't do it right away they could easily do something like, 5 more verges in the racing set and then do the other 10 around the same timing next year

Another great set review. You're the #1 ressource for new sets imo. Cheers Jim
Can always spare a half second for one of my favorite content creators
excited for the prerelease, kinda difficult to tell what to expect from this limited format so it'll be fun to feel out!
ooooh Ghost Vacuum with Caretaker's Talent is going to be fun
IM ENGAGING WITH THE CONTENT!!!!
Red heavy Gruul decks are living large with a bunch of potential new cards and they got the Verge going in the right direction.
Love your set reviews Jim. Excited for ten new brews!
Really enjoyed these! Thank you so much!
Love the ghostbuster artifact
JUMP SCARE 👽🛸
I like how Terramorphic Expanse will be with the mass of common dual lands. Hopefully keep it open later for the delirium decks.
Well done, as always!

Adding to the algorithm, thanks for putting these videos out for us!
It does feel that splashing a colour will be more rewarding in this draft format, whereas in Bloomburrow the lands confined you to creatures.
I've got a Soul Cauldron deck and Marvin is going at least in the sideboard to fight graveyard hate.
Favorite content! 😍
The Vergelands leave space for another ten lands with the reverse pairings (a Rakdos land with Red as primary, for example).
