The foot chase by the Furies brings me back to this movie often. It's just two groups of men running but the camera, edits, and music make it absolutely kinetic.
I saw this movie, when it originally came out in the theaters. I was 20 years old back then, I'm 66 years old now. To me, this movie is a cross between the first Batman movie, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It became a staple of the "Midnight Movie" craze, back in the late-70s and early-80s. Sadly, a few of the cast members are no longer with us. Most recently, the actor (David Harris) who played "Cochise" (The one with beads and feathers in his hair) passed away in October, 2024. The actor who played the gang's tagger "Rembrandt" (Marcelino Sanchez) died a mere seven years after this movie was released (1986). The DJ lady, whose lips were the only part of her shown in the movie (Lynne Thigpen) died in 2003. Actor Roger Hill, who played the part of "Cyrus" died in 2014. Actor Paul Greco, the leader of "The Orphans" passed in 2008. And, actor Jery Hewitt, "Leader of the "Baseball Furies" (Yellow face with black eye and lips) died in 2020.
Wow thanks for all the information, it’s sad when actors or character’s you love are no longer with us. I really appreciate comments and have a happy New Year
The Warriors captured the atmosphere of late 70s NYC perfectly. If you haven't seen "Falling Down" yet, that's a movie that has the feeling of 1990s Los Angeles down pat.
This is pretty much a modern version of Homer’s “The Odyssy” The DJ was just the messenger. John Wick 4 paid homage to The Warriors doing the same thing with a DJ.
Had the chance of meeting Thomas Waites (Fox and Windows from The Thing). The reason for his character's death was a rift between him and director Walter Hill that got bad enough that Hill had the character killed. This angered Waites, who had his name removed from the credits. To this day they both regret the incident.
Based on a book of the same name by Sol Yurick. The book was set in the 1950's and was based upon a very old Greek true story called Anabasis by Xenophon. It's about a group of Greek mercenaries who are hired by a Persian named Cyrus the Younger to overthrow his brother, the King of Persia. Cyrus is killed and the Greeks have to fight their way back to Greece through Persia and Anatolia. In the book, a character named Junior is reading a comic book version of Anabasis as the event unfolds around him just like in the story. The movie updated the setting to the 70's and even used some real gangs. The bad guy in this move was played very creepily by David Patrick Kelly, who most recently played the leader of the dead body clean-up crew in the John Wick movies.
This movie was hugely controversial when it came out in 1979. Fights were actually breaking out because people were getting so pumped up. I have loved it since I saw it on cable in 1980 when I was 13.
The radio DJ putting coded messages out on air makes a come back in John Wick 4. The greatest movie for the different gang colors and props. A cult classic.
1. When this came out many of the larger cities didn't run it. They were afraid it would lead to gang violence. 2. Late 70s soundtrack. 🤩 3. My favorite character is Luther. He's f-ing nuts. 4. Skates may look cool, but would suck in a fight. 5. "Warriors, come out to play" was ad lib. The director told David Patrick Kelly to come up with something menacing, and he looked back to when he was a kid and a creepy old neighbor used to torment the kids. 6. NEVER take off your colors. If you do it's the same as not having them. 7. End it with Joe Walsh.🤩
That was a fun reaction. When this came out I was 16 living in the country with no car, begged my mom to take me , but she wouldn't. Joined the army at 17 and found out it would be showing the first week. Could describe it in detail, but suffice to say, been a fan ever since. Thanks! 👌
If you liked this movie and its style, you should check out 1984's Streets of Fire by the same director as this movie. Does for the 80's setting and vibe what The Warriors did for the 70's. He's got other movies worth checking out like Streets of Fire, 48 Hours, Brewster's Millions, etc.
Ok so the reason there is only 9 guys in their gang, because each gang had to send 9 representatives from their gang. Good job drunk dads not paying attention to the movie!
We saw this at the theater when it released back then, sparse crowd. We had a similar reaction that you two did, it was good, could have been better, but you can see why it's gained a cult following over the last forty plus years. If I were ranking it on a scale of 1-10, 7 is about what I would give it. Still a cool movie.

Every gang brought 9 guys to the rally.
This is classic, happy Chris and Rick checked this out. Thanks DADS what a great way to enjoy the night, watching another great reaction.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
What are some other classic movies we should check out? Let us know down below.
Cool Hand Luke .
‘They Live’ by John Carpenter.
'Assault on precinct 13' from 1976..👌
"The Thing" - 1982 version is best and cult classic
Streets of Fire
The best film ever by Walter Hill.
My favorite of all time!!!!

Love this movie 🎥
Great Job dads, this one has never been one of my favorites but I loved watching your reaction. Definitely a better watch with you two.
This is pretty much a modern version of Homer’s “The Odyssy”

@10:40 The Warriors are bigger than 9 members. The meeting called for each gang to only bring 9
What I didn't understand, is why when The Warriors got home, didn't the rest of the gang come out to playyyyayyy against the Rogues?
You may recognize the DJ because she was the chief on Where in the World is Carmen San Diego..

That interesting, makes sense because he was just kind of killed off out of no where. I really appreciate that info. Thanks for the comment

One thing about this movie, "Can You Dig It!" : )
The Baseball Furies are my favorite gang!
Wimps .
The radio DJ putting coded messages out on air makes a come back in John Wick 4. The greatest movie for the different gang colors and props. A cult classic.
Now you need to see the movie It's called The Wanderers it came out about the same time this one did
Love this one. The original Assault on Precinct 13 is awesome too.
Ok gonna check that out on the channel
1. When this came out many of the larger cities didn't run it. They were afraid it would lead to gang violence.
2. Late 70s soundtrack. 🤩
3. My favorite character is Luther. He's f-ing nuts.

7. End it with Joe Walsh.🤩
Only 8 or 9 were invited from each gang. They have more members.
Oh ok we didn’t catch that, thanks for clearing that up.
Yes I was 19 when this came out. And the movie was a big big hit. For a low budget movie
The song "in the city" was written for this movie by the dude from the eagles
Bring back old memories I still have the video game thank you for the memories
The woman at the radio station is giving information to the other gangs who have radios
The Wanderers is another great gang movie movie

Wow what a story, I love hearing those kinds of first time experiences.
Cleon the first victim of the People's Elbow.
City Slickers (1991) - a comedy with Billy Crystal and Norman the cow.
Guy who was almost done for was in The Thing. Played the dude named "Windows".

Great movie
You guys should do Taxi Driver, or another old cult film. Loved this reaction. 😊
We are thinking about doing that soon!
Funny that you mentioned comics. The director version was recut with comic book transitions to give it the comic book feel.
They also made video game, for the original Xbox ( check Class of 1984)
I thought it was just the right amount of violence or the Warriors would not realistically have anyone left by Coney.
*What kind o gang has 9 dude*
Me thinking about how back in the day a gang of 20 dudes, called 20Love had Hartford shook.
❤❤❤❤❤❤

There is infact a warriors board game.
Please react to Over the Edge (1979)
Defines "ironically classy."
Ok drunk dads Rembrandt the tagger with the spray paint, he’s not a fighter and he’s gay, that’s why is sitting there, try keep up guys.
I always thought this movie was stupid.
I can see this not being for everyone. I didn’t love it but for a first time watch it was enjoyable.
