I always hated the change from dragon knight to dark knight. I loved the dragon knight a lot more.
Prior to 120 or before 4th job even existed, DKs were highly loved by priests to buff up and heal spam for the dangerous under world of Ludibrium. Crusher was just such high damage to efficiently kill the high health mobs down there. All old school classes hold a high place in my heart. I miss all their old quirks and downsides. I was WK that froze mobs and had it good but sometimes...it was hard to not wish to be a DK. Thank you Coppersan! You are a gem to the maple community.
thats what i loved about old ms, every class had very distinct traits that made you stand out in a group setting. now, everyone has more or less the same attributes (movement boosters, full map attacks, etc.) and unique traits are watered down. not to say the current version is worse but it was exciting when you wanted to play bandit just for savage blow or bowmaster for hurricane
yes, and a lot of games seem to do the same thing, make every class do everything. its fucking annoying how easy it is to create diversity which makes a game a lot more interesting
@@LomiKo because making classes unique and interesting comes at the cost of balance, which in an MMO setting you'll always have people crying about wanting their class buffed, or to do X skill like Y class. I prefer uniqueness, as its cool to see a class in your party and "wow, we have X class who can do Y skill! awesome!" but it seems everyone just wants pew pew big damage to have fun nowadays.
Oh, the aesthetic of those blue dragon knight skills was so badass! took me FOREVER to get to third job pre-big bang, only to spend a week scraping 10 mill together buying these stupid crystals cause I couldn't get that quiz right. But nothing made me more proud than whipping around my Fairfrozen to ks noobs
Dragon Knight + Bishop was the classic training combo at undead mobs like Phantom Watches or Death Teddies and even Himes because HB could let Bishops ignore Magic Guard completely while also contributing damage to the mobs. Remember, MP potions were actually difficult to afford back then, and Magic Guard made you chug MP potions.
my DK got married with a beautiful priest then we were the perfect couple for everything oh nostalgia
I remember Dragon Knights alright... my s/o made one. Unfortunately, this also reminds me how toxic the game could be back in those days. My s/o made a pure Pole Arm Dragon Knight, because they preferred the weapon overall. So, they levelled only Pole Arm skills. This of course was better for training as opposed to bossing, since it hit more enemies. However, most people in oldschool Maple only cared about damage numbers than any form of utility, so the majority of Spearmen went either pure spear or hybrid.
The reason I remember the toxic nature of oldschool Maple was that time I made a Cleric to play alongside my s/o's DK. Although Clerics were already abused by other players in Maple (I could go into a huge rant about them another time), they were always in high demand. So here me and my s/o's DK were... grinding in Ludi on Death Teddies and the like (all of them weak to holy/heal, so it was perfect for us both) when another DK shows up in the map. They take one look at my s/o's DK, notices they're using a pole arm and immediately begins both insulting my s/o and trying to get me to leave their party for a "real DK."
Yes... I'm serious. Doucebag was insulting my s/o and trying to get me to ditch them so I could be their heal slave.
I told him to get lost. Obviously I wasn't going to leave my s/o, but I sure as heck wouldn't play with trash like that. Knowing him, he'd probably scream at me every time I used anything but heal or buffs anyways (see what I said before about Clerics being abused).
It freaking kills me everytime i see maplestory i just cant bring myself to play it for more than an hour without crying, it reminds me of all my friends which are gone, the innocence of childhood, coming home from school just to turn on the computer and start the game... Damn... Been so long
I think the reason I don't play video games anymore is because I was a Maple addict from 2007 to 2013 or so, and no game could ever beat that

I’m 29 and got back into it.. at this age you’re more aware of your addiction and can easily say no.
There are a lot of branches that have a duplicate of one of their jobs, accounting for 6 branches instead of 5. (Mihile and Dawn Warrior, DA and DS, Evan and Luminous), so even though the Nova branch already has Kaiser they can still pull a Drgon Knight job. Dragon Roar was the coolest AoE skill back then. Even when Mages got theirs, as a hero I still envied Dragon Roar. There
I mean most of these are unintentional
1. Mihile was supposed to kickstart a new Cygnus Knight branch with rest of the instructors being playable, but Mihile alone received so much backlash initially that they just completely scrapped the project and left Mihile alone.
2. Lumi was suppose to be hybrid like Xenon to illustrate his Light/Dark better, but they ran into lots of technical issue and balance difficulty so they just made him a mage instead.
3. Kaiser was released exactly because of the immense popularity Dragon Knight has over rest of the classes. I couldn't find the page anymore, but I clearly remember Nexon releasing data showing "Dragon" or variations of it is one of the most used word for Guild and Character names. But DK fell off after V and revamp, doesn't help that DK dps just ate dirt after consecutive nerfs since the 1st revamp during RED.
Of course, I'd love to see Dragon Knight back as a separate class, but I highly doubt it'll happen. We need a hero who would lobby for it at every single Nexon KR conference.
I remember first playing this game in 2005. Back then you had to be a pro to get to level 30 and onwards. This game has come so far lol a lot fun and beginner friendly now
Dragon knights were my identity in Maplestory. Ever since they took them away, i haven't really played. Boy, do i miss those old days.
oh man this is an old memory... So I used to play priest and my favorite grinding method of all time was killing himes(?) with my DK buddy. They were undead, so I could run down the map and back spamming heal to pull a mob back to him to kill. Having HB gave me *just* enough health to safely tank them without magic guard, was a lot of fun
I will never forget getting my DK to 4th job and logging off for years afterwards with a since of accomplishment. Only to log back in one day and all of my skills were gone and changed - no more roar, no more dragon knight name, no more fun. I deleted him shortly afterwards.
shame you did that. while dragon roar was an awesome skill, the skills that DK's have now are a bit flashy but make roar look like a mere slash blast now -a -days.
It wasn't my first character to hit 3rd Job, but advancing to DK was every bit as exciting as Crusader for me. The day I made it, I hopped around town, spamming Dragon Crusher and Fury until I ran out of MP, then I potted up and did it again. It's a shame so many of the old class design choices/opportunities were abandoned, like Spear/PA/Hybrid DKs and SinDits. A lot of old skills and concepts may have been poorly executed, but classes honestly felt more unique back then. It may not have applied to all classes, but I always loved how being a specific class didn't mean you played like the rest and the game sort of supported that unique class building.
But let's remember people who were wild enough to play Hybrid builds. They were built different.
Dragon knight was amazing, the skill animations , dragon roar , a fun experience. The worst thing was early 4th job dark knight
because you had this awesome kit 3rd job and next you get an eye summon and more damage if you hurt your self and it was silly because boss/ monster damage was high back then, good luck getting old berserk max damage boost while fighting bigfoot, anego/female boss or even horntail.
Bigfoot with Berserk was easy, as long as you rush him to the corner and time your hits right, you'll never get attacked.
I remember running into "high level" characters, which were above level 90 on the ship ride to Orbis. This was in like 2005/6, we'd be hanging out on the deck just trying to see a DK take on the C.Rogs. This was when Khaini was one of the newer worlds, I think there mighta been one other that was newer. We had Suushi as our highest mapler in our world, I think they mighta transferred either to or from Scania.

When I was a 11 years old kid dragon knight class was like a legendary class to me, at that time there were no 4th job so it was much more popular back then, nothing could compete with that blue dragons animation... then my all life character got deleted for inactivity XD...

I'd like to see more of these kinds of videos, talking about the history of different Maplestory Classes. I only go into Maple in mid to late 2021, so I never got to experience old Maple. Videos like these let me see just how much Maple has changed over the years.
DK was my first char ever. I chose it because i saw someone using dragon roar in henesys hunting ground. Never looked back. It will always have a special place in my heart
for me a friend of mine showed me the dragon knight on youtube and i instantly fell in love with the class and wanted to be one. glad i manage to experience the dk before they were gone forever
"Young and innocent game" is honestly an understatement compared to today.
Dragon knight was my main jam and the only character I got to third job back in the day, completely without exp coupons.
I loved him, the class was so unique and thought both dragons and spears were hella cool, and the skills weren't just flashy, crusher and fury were easily the best third job attacks across all warrior classes.
Crusher was so good that they essentially adapted it to the crusaders fourth job class as brandish where even though it took another whole job advancement to get to and had other skills to compete with was still a great skill and their main grinding skill.
Crusher was so damn good that it was essentially a fourth job skill on a third job class.
As you can imagine, DK's were pretty popular before fourth jobs came out.

btw dragon roar was the only skill until fourth job that could hit fifteen enemies at once.
I finally got my spearman to level 70 just before the RED update. I took a break after enjoying a bit of dragon knightyness for a couple days and remember being so butthurt when I came back to the game a few years later and having a "berserker" instead.
my first main was hermit and my 2nd main was dragon knight. such good times back then.
Those were the glory days, I remember enjoying my DK so much! :'(

i played the spearman but never got to lvl 70 for the dragon knight job :(
so nostalgic, DK had a skill that made a stab animation (crusher) and the other one was a swing animation that was better with polearms. I remerber leveling up the polearm skill and jump-attacking all day at the himes and later on when Leafre was added. Anyone remember the haunted house? man so nostalgic, sometime i just wanna log in and play again but they completely changed the class so i cant really get the nostalgic feels. but it was amazing! enjoyed the game very much and im glad i got to experience it in its heyday.
Dragon slayer was literally my favorite class when I first started .. when I logged back in years later to see it was a different class and the skills were much different .. was very sad :( I miss the whole aspect of polearm vs spear

Drk was my first lv 200 . I miss this form of drk I probably would have never quit it tbh. All they had to do was add lines to dragon crusher/buster and make it faster.. it was at its peak when they made the dragon animations change colors why get rid of a good thing.. Ah oh well EMO drk is here to stay instead

I miss the bowmaster's old blue arrow rain and xbowman's old pink arrow eruption. Had so much fun grinding with those skills at twisted jesters in haunted mansion
I remember seeing Tiger and Fangblade videos of this class way back when I was 14 and found MS(I'm 28 now). Dark knight just isn't the same :/
Outro was pure nostalgia. Remember fucking up my assassin and my spearman atleast once to third job and wasting a crystal and being so upset because as a f2p how hard it was to get another quickly. Spearman I missed a question like an idiot,

Man... I loved Dragon Knight way more than what we currently have. A shadow of former glory, which won't be brought back even with the newest Explorer update.
If they really wanted to remove dragon aesthetics, all they had to do was... well, remove it and replace it with whatever berserkly stuff they wanted. Instead, they gave this class a new identity, which I believe is not only pretty hard to balance, but just... not there.
Actually, now that I think about it, maybe the other reason why they changed it to what it is today is 4th job. That job gave Dragon Knight conflicting themes. Maybe they had no idea what upgraded Dragon Knight could do, so they gave it a different theme for the 4th job, and then changed Dragon Knight into Berserker to match the 4th job better. Besides, going from Dragon Knight to Dark Knight feels strange.
Shame, really. Dark Knight used to be my 2nd main, but as time goes, I'm starting to dislike this class more and more.

I played DK when MS first game to NA. I loved it so much and was such a process to get to that power fantasy, but when you started leveling those skills, man you were such a beast. Sad to learn it's gone.
Aw man this takes me back. I still have my Dk from back then. The dragon theme was one of the reasons I loved the class
Wow that takes me way back. I used to main a DK pre big bang, were talking before fangblade was 200.
I played to about 150 pre-bb and invested hundreds into hp washing a dk just to have a high hp damage sponge character. still have that account but have long since quit. I have popped in here and there but play for no longer than a day or two. Games just not what it used to be but I always love watching coppersan vids to keep up to date on whats goin on
DK was a great iconic and popular class!! It's so disappointing that they removed it. This was prime maple story. One of my best friends Mained a DK. They had some of the best looking skills.

I was wondering about this for a long time. After quitting at lvl 159 pre big bang/pre 4th job and then coming back Dragon Knight was gone!

If I recall correctly, White Knight/Crusader were still affected by the stab/swing thing. It was just that it was based on weapon type. Swords did full damage on both stabs/swings while Mace & Axe had more on swings but less on stabs. It was why everyone only used swords, other than the fact that both classes could use it. Dragon knight actually had the advantage since everyone would just use spears + the 3 stab move to guarantee stab attacks, not to mention that skill was generally more useful since you didn't mob much.
I remember logging into my DK years later after coming back to the game and having to respec and I thought I was going crazy at first.
Massive throwback to ghost ship there, spent so much time there as a cleric/bishop 😂😂
Crusher and Fury are still my favorite DK skills, especially Crusher. Everything about it feels right; the speed, amount of mobs hit, the "heaviness" of the skill, which makes you feel like a strong warrior. Brandish and Blast are also great, but Crusher takes the cake!
I remember, this shit goes way harder than berserker’s skills. Dragon’s roar(i think that’s what it’s called) was extremely satisfying to use when it shook the screen.
So many memories from when i struggled with a Dragon Knight... they were awesome...

dk was my first class and main. Picked it because d-roar and crusher were both sick skills--it was always great seeing someone come and d-roar hhg while I was leveling as a noob lol. The revamp changed the identity of the class and removed all the reasons I picked it in the first place.

Lv 75 was when spear crusher got really good! I still remember it cause I would train at FoG and then was able to wipe the whole golem map quite quickly lol.
I believe that Dark Knights had a color change for Crusher. I think it went blue --> orange --> purple. I can't remember exactly, but something about levels affected it. I think every 10 or 20 levels changed the colors. Anyways, I made one because I liked their third job, but it ruined it for me at 4th job. The berserk skill... if you didn't HP wash then you wouldn't have enough HP for bosses or training... even with HB active. I had maybe 15,000 HP and in order for Berserk to work, I needed to be under 40% (because Berserk30 was a bit pricey for me back then), but anything at higher levels like Newts or Skellies basically 2 shot me, and unless I used expensive potions like reindeer milk, I couldn't do double damage. Also, not fun with lag, it constantly meant death. It was nice to make a DK because it gave my Bishop HB which was great, but I wish I went with Hero instead back then.

Once it came out I left my old Hermit I loved to be a warrior cause my best friend was a priest , and together we loved so much to train while chatting together

Ah my original class I made it all the way to lvl 94 back when the max level was like 120. Back when tiger was the top of the leaderboards
I loved the Dragon Knight with OP AOE half map attack that was awesome. Bishop were also a map killer for sure in my books. Like I've said before they really need to bring back 1 server with all the old school maps and characters that would be awesome.

So much nostalgia! DK was my very first main when I started shortly after beta. It was THE class to play. Berserk was a very fun skill before they changed it. Gave some difficulty to the game imo
I’m still upset they removed the dragon based attacks and the class. It was my only purpose to make a warrior and now it’s gone
oh yeah the golden days of maple. i was a dragon knight before the revamp. and after 12 years am still a dark knight main to this day.
SRMACHINE was the first to reach 200 on BMS and he was a DK. I always loved this class, so sad it's gone
1st character i made was a cleric, but it wasnt until playing the party quest in Ludibrium and fighting Allister that i realized i messed up by not leveling up Fairy Guard... I was a super squishy cleric that needed another cleric to get through Ludi PQ 😂😂😂... anyways, after that I did play a warrior and took the Dragon Knight path, I think before i quit I had reached somewhere around lvl 8X, but back in the OG days when Tiger and Suushi held the #1 and 2 in the rankings. Today's Maplers will never know the struggle and how amazing it felt to reach 3rd job, now you can make a character and hit 3rd job in 1 day.

Nexon made rebranding in that job
Now his name is Dark Knight
That was the first time Nexon did it.
And we would have a second rebrand. In this case, with Beast Tamer.
The skills changes, but Nexon use the same Weapon with that jobs.
Dark Knight (EX Dragon Knight), the spear and Lynn (EX Beast Tamer), the Memorial Staff.
Man I miss those dragon skills, so elegant.

I stopped playing Dark Knight since they lost the dark impale skill, the skill looked so clean, fast, smooth, definitely the symbol of dark knight
i still play my dragon knight T.T but this video really hit home when memories rushed in about 2007 or so playing with the old skills ... U.U
Remember grinding with my priest looking for himes channels to go with DK's(pre 4th job). .04% per mob at mid 80's. 4 hours of grinding before you'd lvl up.

Without a doubt, the coolest class in pre and early big bang. It was my first 3rd and 4th job and I'm gutted that they removed it from the game completely.

Funny, I just recently made a Spearman to round out my fighter class, when I realized at 3rd job that class want there anymore... Guess I missed a few years of not paying attention 😂. Deleted it and made a LVL 200 beginner instead lol
Dark Knight mains gets to experience this everyday when they login since Nexon obviously forgot we still exist.
Dark knight was my second ever character and has been my main ever since. the reason i choose him was because of the dragon knight. i love dragons so it wasnt a hard choice. but i never got to 3rd job before they removed it. so i never got to play these skills on a official server. ive been sad ever since... :(

If Berserker (Spearman 3rd) still has Dragon Roar skill, all good now.

Played during beta and right after. My brother became a spearman only because I found a Zeco (lvl 40 spear) while leveling up. It took him a long time to even hit 30, then finally 40. I always killed monsters that dropped spears so he can always have the latest one.
Then when he finally hit 70 we had son many Redemptions (70 spear) and loads of scrolls. We got him the perfect spear 7 60% scrolls.
Of course he eventually surpassed me.
Recuerdo con mucho cariño esa clase, es la razón por la que me agradan tanto la tematica de caballeros y dragones, hoy día lo traslade a final fantasy14 con mi Dragoon.
