  • Each year between late February and early April, over one million Sandhill Cranes stop over in the Central Platte River Valley of Nebraska. In the North Platte reach, the cranes roost at night in shallow waters of the North Platte River. In the pre-dawn hours, they take to the air en masse to the agricultural fields between and south of the South Platte River to feed. This video was taken 0700 (Central) Tuesday March 21, 2023 from the corner of West Suburban and North Trail roads, northwest of North Platte, Nebraska. The view is north-northeast toward the woodland riparian corridor of the North Platte River. The crane's namesake--the Sandhills--is the distant hazy horizon. #sandhillcranes #sandhills #migration
