You're mistaking on the nickname. It was not The Bear State, until the 70's. It was The Land of Opportunity until the 80's. Then became The Natural State. I have never heard it called "The Bear State"?????

I think it was former President Clinton who changed it from the Land of Opportunity to The Natural State. Before that, people would come to Arkansas in search of employment opportunities which didn't exist. The Natural State describes Arkansas more accurately.
