All old systems are upgraded ....and these are branch line stations with minimal traffic ....biased reporting from quint.....even if you go to United Kingdom many branch line stations still use these systems

I thought those lanterns indicated the position of switches. I didn't know they were used to tell the train whether or not to proceed.
These are what is called "shunting signals". It is only used for shunting purpose. On major train routes signals are all light based, and with electronic circuitry. This news obviously is made with an agenda.
This is history now. the station has under gone tremendous changes and is today one of India's most modern station
But the good part is the railways station looks so clean

Hi actually i am a signalling engineering student . Whatever you are saying is true.But now a days rapid automatisation of signalling and interlocking is going on.To make few things automatic whole structure has to be redesigned and which requires a lot of fund.Moreover their are few things which are carried since britishers because it's very safe example is one which is shown in video like Token based signalling.But seriously a lot of improvement is very very necessary.
So basically everything set up to be upgraded but they are waiting for the platform work to be completed so that they can connect all of them together. You with your headline point out as if there has been no development at all and everything is still ancient. Quiet biased isn't it?
I have high doubt that Mumbai to Ahmadabad bullet train will be successful. Gujjus are too stingy to buy expensive ticket just to save 3 hours. Mumbai to Pune and Bangalore would have been the best route.
He didn't give a damn about Varanasi from the get go. He just stood from Varanasi to be symbolic of his Hindutwa image. He is more concerned about a 1 lakh crore bullet train for Ahmedabad, Gujrat. And the rest of the country has to pay for this damn train. But even if he stands for the next elections from Varanasi, he will still win because sadly he has no opposition.
