    Do you idle your truck all night while sleeping? Do you let your cooler run all night if your truck is turned off?

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@OleGradyRay if it’s too hot out mid 80+ at night, I find a decent low cost hotel. Usually 1 with a free breakfast and gym. If it’s mid 60s and lower, no need to run the truck cause it’s cool enough. In between them temps, I run it. Only leave the cool plugged in while running cause it will kill the battery fast. Wasn’t a big fan of the plug in cooler for a hotshot but in a semi with 4 batteries, it’s not so bad

    take the front passenger seat out. run yur bed long ways along the right side. it leaves a bunch of storage space behind the drivers seat. and you can stretch out all the way when you sleep. even have enough room for a little desk behind you. oh, and take out the back seat. lol

      @@Deputy2148 it worked out for me. plus you can build the bed up about a foot and a half and have a crap load of storage under the bed also. nothing better than being able to stretch out after a 14 hour day

    Never ask Law Enforcement for thoughts because they will always give you their opinions. Always ask for the LAW!!!! Make sure they give you the State Statue number for a particular State. Nice Setup though. I have yet to read anything in the FMCSR about you covering your back windows, the only thing it talks about in tinting your front windows.

      Only glass that matters is driver, pass door and windshield.. back glass means nothing...
      I black my out with silver and black paint... A thin layer of silver with heavy layer of black with a clear film to protect the paint..
      If you wish - lay your head behind driver side and leave pass side clear or with a Lt. Tint to match pass front glass.
      This lets you see out as your driving ( backing ) - driver rear is the only one I would black out 100% if your new, once your use to the trailer, black out the others if you need to darken the sleeping area.

    I took a load for a friend when he got sick, I drove his hotshot 1500 miles round trip and would NEVER do it again. He had his bed similar to yours. Crawling back to the bed and never able to stand up just killed me. Man was I glad to get back to my Freightliner Condo I love being able to stand up and walk to my bed and stretch my legs . I could never do that hotshot stuff full time , lots of respect to you guys doing that. He paid as much for his Dodge as I did my Freightliner

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yeah the truck prices are similar. The semi would boost my income by a good bit and that’s my biggest goal, but I’m picking up a 5500 and putting a sleeper on it. My gf and daughter will be coming out on the road with me and I can’t mount a car seat in a semi so I’m kinda stuck with the hotshot for now. The bed in the back of my 3500 doesn’t bother me much... I’m a Marine Vet and I’ve been homeless a few times in life so I can sleep anywhere and I’m grateful to have a bed ya know. But I’d much rather be in a semi

  • @RickDeckardMemories

    My hat is off to you!
    Donno how you tolerate this... 😱
    I do OTR in a Freightliner M2 "buisness class" with a factory extended cab (about 30 extra inches with a factory bunk+mattress on top of storage space).
    They are very rare (these extended cabs), but you might have seen them.
    I have tons more room compared to your setup, but after a year I am super sick of my "coffin" )))))
    I never planned on doing this for that long. My plan was to quickly get a CDL (my current truck is 26,000lb GVWR and does not require CDL) and move to a "normal" 18-wheeler. I think I am about ready, so I will finally have some space to stand up, more storage, maybe even a little ghetto cooking setup - like a small electric burner or something. Obviously a fridge and a microwave oven, maybe a small toaster oven, a TV.
    You know, whatever one can cramp into a standard Tractor-trailer sleeper...
    A somewhat comfortable environment to fix some chow and kill a prostitute here and there ))))))

    I currently run a 2017 3500 with the 3.73 gears. I did extensive research before I decided on this setup. It’s a great combo but I really like the idea of the 5500 with the bigger breaks, tighter turning radius etc.. After seeing the Ram release the 2019 5500 I’m sold. I will be ordering one with the 4.10 gears and putting a hauler body on it. With the increased hp and torque numbers it’s going to be what I believe the best setup for hotshot trucking. You want to be able to run down the interstate at under 2000 rpm and with any other gearing that’s not going to happen. There really isn’t any price difference between the 4500 and 5500 so my thought is you might as well get the higher payload capacity with that comes with the 5500.
    Thanks for the videos.

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you’ve done a lot of homework on this 1. Keep in mind your tow capacity on the 2019 5500 4.10... With a crew cab 4x4 the max tow capacity is around 20k lbs. The 4.88 gets you in the 30k range but will cost on fuel. I’m currently between the 5500 with 4.88 and the 4500 with 4.44 which has a tow capacity around 25k lbs. I’m also looking at the FL60.

    I’m 6’2 and can only deal with sleeping for 3 hours in the back of my 2015 Ram 2500 before my body starts to cramp. Don’t know how you do it brother. Damn.

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, there just isn’t much sleep involved. While the seat was in, I sleep sitting up against the rear pass door and my feet up on the seat with pillows behind me for comfort. It sucks, but I’m on a mission and putting in the time now to build something big... Plus I’ve had to sleep on a park bench a few times so I tend to not complain. Definitely not easy tho. At 6’2... that’s too much for me to imagine. I’d have to invest in $40 hotels

      @marxvadar2614 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dream Inspired thx for quick reply. I’ve been homeless a few times too. Your videos are informative. I see your goal is a semi. Why did you go hot shot instead of trucking school and then jump into a semi for a company? This is the dilemma I’m in-whether to go semi for a company or take the financial risk of hot shot(?). Any advice? My goal is to be happy and have consistent work (loads...). Thank you bro

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah man life can be tough at times. As for my business choices, I was always going to own my company. I don’t care much for working for other people. Hotshot was easy to get into because I already had the truck and the trailer wasn’t much. To buy a semi and a larger trailer, that would have been quite a bit more up front and I didn’t want to just jump in like that with absolutely no training or experience. Because I already have my CDL, I can go work for pretty much any companies out there as long as they will take me, but I’m here to build something of my own, not be apart of someone else’s dream. It’s a lot of fun doing hotshot tho. And with the upgrades we’re making, we’ll have been opportunities to make money really soon.

    • @marxvadar2614
      @marxvadar2614 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dream Inspired excuse me for taking up all your time brother but since I have your attention I own a 2015 ram 2500 diesel, I’m in a good financial position to upgrade. Do you recommend I go to a 3500 truck or larger as far as hotshot goes. Thank you for your time my friend. By the way I am in Florida as well.

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 3500 with 3.73 rear is what I have and I run a 40’ gooseneck. It’s a phenomenal truck and I get good mileage but at times it does drag a bit. A lot of people run 3500 and they are really phenomenal, especially when it comes to using the truck for personal use as it comes with a bed. The 4500 and up don’t come with the pick up bed. They come just Chassis-Cab. The 4500 with 4.10 rear will give you a bit more towing power and you do pretty good on fuel as well, but you lose the bed and you’ll look like a commercial truck at all times. Depending what you’re looking to do... this could be good or bad but that’s up to you. The 4500 crew cab is also cheaper than the 3500 crew cab. Just for reference, the SLT 5500 I’m looking at only costs about $5k more than my 3500. I can tow a hell of a lot more with it, but it will never be a regular vehicle, it’s always going to be commercial, which I’m fine with. Just a few things to think about.

    As long as you have side mirrors, you can cover all your rear windows. Works the same for tint. You just can’t tint your driver front side windows super dark. I think 30% or something like that is what’s normally legal.

    I know most people have family's that hotshot, and you need to haul them in your truck, but if it's a work truck and if you have other vehicle's, why couldn't a guy take out the front passenger seat and back seat and make the bed run from back to front it seems that there would be a lot more sleeping room and storage underneath, just a thought, please let me know what your thought's would be on that. thanks mike

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve seen this done and there’s a company that sells a kit that mounts from your dash to the back window... it looks cool but it’s smaller than a twin bed and leaves you far less space if you went that route. Taking out the back seat gave me much more space but for storage and for sleeping

They are more expensive but use less overall power, more efficient actually shutting off, they are definitely the best option.

    I need to know if a person with a CDL A but little experience can get loads. I have a CDL since 1992 excellent driving record and I can handle a trailer. Im thinking about a f450-550 or Dodge 4500-5500. But I'm afraid that a broker won't give me a load since I don't have the experience. What do brokers/shippers look for in a hotshot?

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well brokers don’t give loads to people... You have to first be leased on to or own your own company with a DOT number and Active MC that meets requirements of said broker. If you have the experience and have a truck and trailer, but maybe don’t have the funds to open your own company, get into some of the Hotshot groups on Facebook... There are posts on there all the time looking for drivers.

    Stay away from the 4500-5500. You will regret it you will be down on power 325hp and 750tq. Just pull your bed and install a sleeper. Heck cowtown has sleepers that are DOT approved for 1900$ that fig in the bed of your truck. I’m going with the roadrunner set up from cowtown. I got my truck and trailer just waiting to finish my class A. But that set up you have is pretty sweet.

      I’ve been comparing the 35/45/5500 for a few months now. I was originally going with the 4.88 5500 before I knew what I was really looking at. I scaled my choice back to a 4500 with 4.10 but I’m looking to pull a semi step deck. The 4500 can manage it but I want to load be able to load 30k plus on it. I’m going to go with the 5500 with 4.10 rear. SLT Crew cab extended rear, dual tanks, full dot sleeper, 100+ gal tank, chain boxes, 5th wheel gooseneck combo set up. Priced it out and I’m looking around $65-75k for the full truck setup. Still working on the trailer tho.

      @yotatrd5.758 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dream Inspired dude even used trucks can get it but it’s 3years. Mopar sends an inspector out to approve it. I think that’s 3500 if I remember right the 4year is 4500. It’s a Mopar specific warranty. And can be added to any ram with a cummins that was purchased new or used even if the truck was purchased a year ago it’s a commercial warranty 2500-5500 trucks. Really worth looking into. If the truck goes down they will get you an enterprise rental at a prorated cost so you have minimal down time.

      Yes they are illegal for commercial. My vehicle tho is used for commercial, it’s my private owned vehicle. I don’t use it while I’m working.

    Is the sleeping area set-top you have dot legal? I'm lookimg to do somethimg similar on my truck but not sure if it will meet dot.

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No. It only needs to meet DOT standards if you are running team driving. If you aren’t doing team driving, it doesn’t need to meet any standards. It’s not illegal to sleep in your back seat

      Brad is correct, log Off Duty, and they cant do anything about it. You have to take a 10 hr break, nothing said about having to sleep🤣🤣

    hey man, i've heard a lot of yes and no when it comes to sleeping in the truck. some people say it doesn't count as off-duty when you have a load hooked up, ect. I'm just looking for some answers. I'm wanting to start up hot shot trucking but don't know where to start. I don't have a CDL but tow my dad's 40ft 5th wheel camper all the time. I have a truck, no trailer and am trying to find a company to dispatch me or learn how to dispatch myself. Any tips/tricks you could offer? I'm coming from a medical assembly background but wanted more freedom to travel. Thank you and god bless.

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, so sleeping in the truck is not illegal. Sleeping in the truck while someone else is driving it is. The point of a sleeper berth, when it comes to hotshot, is more for team type driving. I won’t say that having a legal sleeper isn’t worth it if you’re a single driver, but logging off duty and sleeping in your truck is not illegal. The way it’s viewed is once your off duty, you can’t tell where someone sleeps. Yeah you can demand a hotel invoice, but what if they have friends or family where they travel and they sleep there. Can you legally call them out and give them a ticket for not having a hotel invoice? There is a ton of grey area here to debate, but legally, you can sleep in your back seat, BUT ONLY IF YOU LOG OFF DUTY. As for getting into the business, I’d recommend a CDL Class A, but if you’re GCWR is staying under 26k lbs, it’s up to you. As for getting loads, you need an LLC and to work either as an independent driver with your own DOT and MC numbers, or lease on under someone who is hiring.

    I dont know if you knew this but i saw another video and according to the guy there were certain requirements for the sleeper berth to be d.o.t approved. The mattress had to be fire retardant. And the sleeper area needed some type of restraint system. Kind of like a seat belt alternative.

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not a sleeper berth. It’s just a place to sleep. How you sleep when logged off duty is up to. If you want to sleep on your back seat, you can. If you want to do this, you can. You just can’t log line 2 for sleeper berth

    Congratulations on your wedding. You're honoring God by this decision.
    In a Hotshot are there safety issues you've experienced parking and sleeping in the truck? Also do you just go to the off duty line on your ELD rather than sleeper berth line since what you have isn't a legal sleeper berth?
    Have there been any maintenance issues (pollution control items in particular) due to idleing?
    Thank you
    walter

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven’t had any issues at all. Only issue I had was an asshole trucker undid my straps during the night for some reason. Other than that, no issues at all. And yes you must log off duty if you don’t have a dot sleeper. And no issues with idling either. If there’s been any issues, I don’t know of any yet...

    You're not going to run into an issue with the sheets. The law only applies to the Windows adjacent to the driver and windshield.

    Absolutely awesome video! Great info on the mobile living quarters. Wondering how AC would work without idling the truck all night? Idle truck every couple of hours or use a mobile AC unit and an external gas generator?

    • @DreamInspired
      @DreamInspired  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve got friends who run southern states and same as up north, run their trucks for a week or 2 straight and use the a/c at all times. I’d probably be looking into a generator or something at some point myself to avoid the wear on the truck...

      At least 6 pairs of jeans, 10-15 shirts (plain Hanes white tee shirts mostly but a few fun 1s) 15-20 boxers and pairs of socks. At least 2 pair of shoes and 1 pair of boots. 2 big jackets and a hoodie. I also bring 3 towels with me and if I run out, I keep a thing of detergent with me and do a dark load and a white load.
