Ref Mushroom Man. It you watch the opening, there are a *lot* of fungus references. Notably the yellowish blobby stuff that keeps growing on things. Looks like a slime mold. not a fungus but, until recently, people *thought* slime molds were fungi.
The manga interprets the boys looking at her as more of a inspiration or an idol or could be a crush, like how we look at superheroes back in the day, but I still interpret that scene of Kafka saying he's a childhood friend as a fucking powermove and subtle flex. (Tiny spoiler below...if you could call it that, more like a hint, but I don't suggest looking unless you want reassurance.) Kafka and Mina just gets better from here on out. Slow...but progressing. Especially on the latest chapters which is kinda cockblock cliffhanger right now, but it shows who she's really thinking about.

It's culture. Look at history if you want and some things are not that savory. Such as feet-binding. But high heels was meant to accentuate the calf. And it does. I, personally don't mind and my wife has a variety of heels so it's really her choice lol. She knows her calves are great though :s
It was scientifically explained that high heels make the muscles in a woman's leg and butt more rounded/prominent which is a trigger. Look at how guys like the smooth curves on a car.
