Este séptimo cd de la colección “ Joan Chamorro presenta” coincide con el 10º aniversario de la Sant Andreu Jazz Band, joven orquesta que dirigo y de la que Joan Mar Sauque forma parte desde el 2012 .
Desde el momento que le conocí ( por entonces tenia 15 años y de él me había hablado David Pastor, un gran amigo y gran trompetista) pude observar en el unas enormes ganas de aprender , una seriedad en el trabajo , necesarias para desarrollar una carrera como la que esta tendiendo y sobre todo una personalidad sencilla, humilde , exenta de ego pero no por ello exenta de ambición musical, de querer entrar de una manera total en la música de jazz .
Su crecimiento exponencial de los últimos dos años a ido paralelo a la efervescencia musical de la Sant Adreu Jazz Band, la cual , en la actualidad, cuenta con solistas muy solventes como Andrea Motis, Magali Datzira , Rita Payes ( las tres con su cd propio de presentación ) así como su amigo Joan Codina al trombón o los saxos tenores, Joan Marti y Marçal Perramon, la violinista y saxo tenor Elia Bastida, el pianista Jan Domenech , la guitarrista Carla Motis , los jóvenes trompetistas Victor Carrasposa y Alba Armengou, la joven saxofonista Alba Esteban y todo el resto de jóvenes miembros de la orquesta , que no dejan de sorprenderme gratamente cada día, cada ensayo , cada concierto.
(Se me acumula el trabajo en esta serie de presentaciones, cosa la cual me enorgullece y me hace realmente muy feliz .)
Joan Mar es un trompetista solido, capaz de liderar con solvencia la sección de trompetas de una bigband
y ademas es un solista con unas ideas siempre frescas, con una gran capacidad de creación melodíca , mezcla de tradición y modernidad, basada en la escucha de grandes como Tom Harrell, Kenny Dorham y Freddie Hubbard
Y lo mejor de todo es que su progresión es ascendente e imparable.
Podemos oir su evolución en sus aportaciones como solista en los últimos cd’s de la Sant Andreu Jazz Band, destacando su precioso solo en el tema Moody’s mood for love , del jazzing 5 o sus varios solos en el nuevo Jazzing 6 que ha visto la luz este mismo año.
En este , su disco de presentación , contamos con músicos de primera linea como son Luigi Grasso, joel Frahm, Perico Sambeat, Toni Belenguer, Ignasi Terraza, Josep Traver, Esteve Pi y Pablo Arias ; Tambien podemos escuchar las voces de Magali Datzira , Andrea Motis y Rita Payes. el piano de Marc Martin . Y como ya viene siendo habitual , varios miembros de la SAJB y la propia orquesta al completo en Boperation.
Los arreglos de Joan Monne, Sergi Verges y Toni Baquer dan un sonido muy especial al repertorio .
El sonido captado y mezclado por David Casamitjana da la naturalidad que requiere esta música, cosa que siempre es de agradecer.
Sin mas, desearle a Joan Mar que su carrera musical le siga aportando la felicidad que denota su mirada clara y su sonrisa sincera. This is one of my favorite SAJB performances!!! The band, Joan Mar, & Joel were outstanding!!! As for Andrea, this performance left no doubt she was on her way to being a very big jazz star! Her singing and trumpet playing was spellbinding!!! Joan Chamorro I don't know what you do to get these young people to play as good as they do, but whatever it is, you are doing something right!!!
Joel Frahm's solo is so beautiful and well-constructed! The whole piece is beautiful.
Adoro essa canção. Uma interpretação de Andrea exuberante, uma banda exemplar com um arranjo muito bom. Como bonus um solo de sax soprano de um mestre. É para ouvir todo dia. Essa canção não é brasileira e foi vertida para o português. Ficou um show!!!

What a great piece! Somehow I had missed this one until now, but that's OK, I love serendipitous discoveries. The arrangement is just superb, so kudos to Toni Vaquer, who I did not know of until now. Not only is the playing and singing superb, it's also fun to see several folks not playing their "usual" instruments, and still sounding as great as ever!
What a magnificent piece of music and musicianship. Andrea vocally carries the note transistions perfectly and the blend of horns and reeds is so mellow

Since I was maybe twelve years old I have enjoyed listening to Dave Brubeck's quartet, with Paul Desmond on sax.
These days we can find a few of Brubeck's recordings on youtube.
But where are all the videos in which Brubeck and Paul Desmond play their intstruments together at age thirteen or fifteen?
Oh, right, I forgot. There aren't any.

The band is in Barcelona...all Catalan except Joel Frahm. The music is by Tom Harrell (US) and the Portuguese lyrics were written in the Netherlands! But this band does play a lot of Brazilian music.

The simple days, when one could pick a favorite tune are gone. I,m up to about a hundred equally loved favorites and the list grows every weekend. So I tried picking a favorite combination of performers. Same thing. List keeps growing with every move Joan makes. I tried saving a favorites playlist. When it passed 300 videos I scraped the idea. Now, when I get home from work on Friday evening, I just scroll through Joans 765 video upload list to some random point and hit play. Music for the weekend.
Must be over 800 by now. To think we had to pay big money for LPs and CDs (without visuals). We are so lucky.

Any combination of students/professionals, music styles, whatever era from 2006-2021, it doesn't matter. This piece seems even more complex than Alba A's Dahoud. Such an impressive display by all. The most gorgeous and difficult work I've heard them play.... impossible to single out any person as the combined effort is total sonic beauty.. Esteve Pi, Magalí Datzira and Josep Traver are like holding the entire piece together. Woodwind work is so exceptional with dynamic range seldom heard today. Cannot tell who arranged this song, but they are genius level to me. Gorgeous solos.

O conjunto é catalão, a música é norte-americana (pelo menos o autor) e a versão é em Português. Aí fico pensando a razão que leva a isso. Por que essa predileção em cantar em Português? Seja por que for, sinto-me muito honrado. Detalhe: a música "Baião de quatro toques", interpretada pela Èlia Bastida, era totalmente desconhecida para mim.
