I've been doing most of this stuff already, but I felt like I wasn't doing what im supposed to to improve, and now i feel SO MUCH better knowing im doing alright.
As someone who can’t remember what I ate for dinner yesterday you just made me feel like I have no hope for getting better at guitar. Thankfully I won’t remember that tomorrow
one of my new year’s resolutions is to actually commit some time to getting better at guitar and in seemingly divine timing BAM you appear!! thanks stuart 😁😁
You totally summed up how i feel, bro. Ive been making practice books, flash cards, memorizing the fretboard, learning theory, chords, scales, songs, triads, CAGED, blah blah blah and I’m having such a hard time connecting it all and playing music. People see all my guitars and ask me to play something and i freeze and usually wind up playing some stuttering bullshit lol. Not to mention trying to understand how to approach electric and acoustic differently. I love this instrument and im in for life but goddamn this can be so overwhelming. I really appreciate your channel, man. Please keep it up.
I just play songs I enjoy with increasingly levels of difficulty while focusing on correct technique. I intend on learning music theory later down the line but so far it’s been an enjoyable process for me. If you are in it for life no need to overwhelm yourself or you risk burning out
Thank you stuart, i dont think you even realise how helpful your videos or newsletters are to me! I’ve never seen anyone except you explain guitar techniques in an ACTUALLY beginner friendly way. You’re the best, keep it up!!!
After playing for a couple years off and on now ive been disappointed in my progress and ive made a list of all yhe songs ive sort of learned and forgot or just partially learned and its staggeringly long and shameful. The last couple weeks ive been pushing myself to learn all these songs fully and accurately and also some scales and crap. Had a teacher for a bit but had to stop cuz money and he gave me these resources i haven't truly memorized. So this is exactly what i need and have started doing and i hope this push moves me to the next level of my playing. Memorization seems obvious but putting in the reps and focus on doing one thing at a time until I actually know it is a lot.
Hey Stuart, just bought my first guitar about a week ago and it isn’t my first instrument, I played the viola for a few years and was intermediate level. Your videos are wonderful and have helped me get started!
watching this tho I’ve been playing for almost 2 years 😛 and guess what the first song I learned was Yume Utsutsu by Lamp and you’re the one to thank for that 🙏
This is actually the most basic yet amazing info. I don't read music and have no interest in reading, especially as I'm playing, so memorizing and hearing is the only method I use
Heyyy stuu since you’ve discovered the term midwest emo, can you maybe look into the genre math rock and do some tutorials. There’s a band called ttng and I hope there are other fans here!
ha ha excellent - entertained and informed.. im defo going to spend more time listening to the music I love and attempting to learn from it. brilliant work sir.
yo uncle stuart can you make a video on how to work with having short and stubby fingers? if that makes sense lol. also u have made me so much better at guitar and i can actually watch u without getting bored bro u fix my attention span
I was just watching a radiohead performance and I was like thinking I wish I could be as good as jonny greenwood one day (their lead guitarist and my favourite guitarist) and then I click off and this video pops up its as if this is a sign to watch it
Sometimes I cross my eyes to see two stuarts and it makes me happy

Planning a nose blow for the camera is THE most iconic thing to do 😭

Watching this from both my accounts cause i gotta support father Stuart

I'm pretty sure with consistency your muscle memory would help you A LOT more than your brain does for remembering regular stuff
4:20 till we get to the tip, but the build up is worth it. Love ya
⏱️
I’m honestly just here for the yapping, I love it
one of my new year’s resolutions is to actually commit some time to getting better at guitar and in seemingly divine timing BAM you appear!! thanks stuart 😁😁
I've started playing guitar about 2 month ago, and I can proudly say that finding you uncle Stuart has helped me improve a loooooot more

Hey Stuart, just bought my first guitar about a week ago and it isn’t my first instrument, I played the viola for a few years and was intermediate level. Your videos are wonderful and have helped me get started!

watching this tho I’ve been playing for almost 2 years 😛 and guess what the first song I learned was Yume Utsutsu by Lamp and you’re the one to thank for that 🙏
Someone once said great musicians dabble in lots of music and interpolate from all of them. The best musicians learn the exact material and copy it.
