To be fair, Hades didn't just want power for power's sake. He wanted a world where magic can be used to it's full potential. While Ultear wanted to turn back time, what Hades wanted was never clearly mentioned, but with sufficient context you can figure out what exactly he wanted to achieve, that he couldn't before. He's not a bad guy per se, but his methods suck.
