I think hedgehogs are among my favorite mushrooms, easy to identify and delicious. I really love the memory of spending time in the woods with grandma. Between that and the cooking, this video totally reminded me of my favorite book as a child (probably of all time), "My Side of the Mountain". Thanks for another great video and wonderful memories, Aaron!
Drooling! We had a very short chanterelle season in Southern Oregon. But we found enough to try them for the first time (both whites and goldens) ! Sooo good! That pork and mushrooms looked amazing! Costco had chanterelles, so I foraged high and low there and brought some home. They weren’t nearly as good as the super fresh ones we found, but no complaints. I made your mushroom gravy from your video. Baked chicken, green beans and that gravy on rice - oh ya!
Wow Aaron that was a wonderful episode. Hope you didn't get too much of a belly ache from the Golden Chanterelles we know they don't settle well for you.
How lucky are we to live somewhere is so beautiful. The Olympic Peninsula is definitely my favorite part of Washington. You inspired me to walk my dog out by the Chanterelle patch and I found three. There were a lot more but they were really waterlogged!
Aaron!!!!! I thought you had adverse reactions to chanterelles?! What a sacrifice for the followers! Awesome video man love to see our state’s beauty be featured for all to see.
Right on Aaron, we loved this type of survival video content, I'm a local raised on CK area and remember doing a lot of hunting on the OP, with my family also, picking mushrooms and having some on our harvests, nothing better, except the good lord above of course, have a blessed day man!
That was a change of pace for you Aaron; I enjoyed the video. (I hope you noticed your fork lying on the ground when you retrieved the camera and tripod setup after recording that departure.)
Well done video. Adding the cook in the forest a great touch. Don't see many folks using the round griddle often these days. Great way to reduce weight vs the cast iron skillets. ONLY thing missing was a cold beer or some wine. Have you taken Loki out yet for winter Truffles?Have a great day 🍄🟫🍄🍷

Dude, im going to do this. When i was kid back in michigan, i went deer hunting, and shortly after we got one, we met up with some other hunters who had some 7up and crisco. We found a pie tin somehow, cleaned it up and sauteed up some fresh meet over a fire in the forest using the crisco and pop to cook a steak in. One of my favorite memories from childhood. Nothing like a fire, fresh deer, and new friends on a snowy michigan day :)
Too cool, reminds me of some of my times in the "bush". Wish I'd had some like his great grandma teach me about the mushroom wonderland. Thanks from Vancouver Island.
Gomphus clavatus can be found in Norway as well, but it's rare/threatened here, so you should only pick a few, if any. It doesn't grow where I live as far as I know, so I've never seen it.
@@TheChronicOutdoorsSyndrome I can eat a few bites, but if I eat a meal laden with them It has a tendency to cause me some gastric issues, so I go light on them and heavy on the meat 🤣✌️🍄 Thanks for watching and for your concern.

I also feel weird when I see tentage or some kind of forest shelter when I'm mushroom hunting in the forest... it instantly ruins the immersion and my imagination runs wild, like I'm being watched by a fugitive lol
@@15000000th I can have a few nice bites without trouble, but I can't eat a meal laden with them, it'll upset my stomach. I'm always testing my limits though haha. Thanks for watching. Yeah, and it was weird finding that shelter, I really started to feel like someone was there in the woods watching me, which was probably not far from the truth. Those ferns were super fresh. Cool place though, but I think I'm going to build a better one on a future video. I'd like to steer my videos more to the forage and survive route, or at least have a playlist of those kind of videos. They're the best to make I think, although they take a lot of effort
When you pass through Aberdeen or Hoquiam, you might consider hit up the Swanson's grocery. Sometimes I find very high quality cuts of meat like ribeye and t-bone for ~$6 a pound. New York steak, tri-tip, Chuck eye aka Poor Boy Steak (extremely good), for about six bucks a pound and that pork, sometimes I get it for $1.49 a pound. They also mark stuff half off, everyday. I like to get me some of those good cuts of meat to keep my mind and body functioning adequately while out in the woods. Just a lil local tip, bruddah. I enjoyed watching this video. I'm stuck inside today, so I feel like I got out and lived vicariously through you, today 😂
