This German Panther tank was restored by Bruce Crompton in England in the Combat Dealers series and then shipped to Australia. For all the people who didn't know.
I know it !! 🙂
Yes, the commentators talk about that and the twins at the 37 minute mark!
What a legacy they leave behind.
Cost a packet....14 mil I hear...
@@andrewmacdonald4833 That was bullshit for the programme. Much of the story about this tank on the show was made up.
I am so happy to see those WW2 tanks still alive especially the ISU-152 and the panther..wish i could watch it in front of my eyes..
So glad to share with you in AUS from the UK my love of German armour and vehicles have a aesthetic all of their own, i hate war and all its death and destruction but i do love all German WW2 equipmet from an artistic perspective
I wish i was there. Greetings from Germany. Have fun 👍
Great coverage and commentary, a big step up from last year. Good stuff. Thanks
Wish i was down under to see Armourfest. If the world is still around next year perhaps. Thanks for live-streaming
I'm glad to see that you mentioned the 'recovery' of an ISU-152 from outside a village - after sixty-something years standing there, gathering rust, dust and weather. Yup, it started up and they drove it onto a low-loader to take it to a museum.
Thank you so much for the superb work! To see the stuff movin' is just "amazing"! Frank from Germany
My dad drove a M5A1 Stuart light tank during WWII. He arrived in Europe about a week after D-day and stayed until after the war in Europe was over. He saw battle during the Battle of the Bulge and a month later had to run back to his base, with his crew, after a German tank knocked out their tracks.
excellent participation and comments from the video speakers, great knowledge of the exhibited vehicles and the characteristics of the armies and countries participating in the Second World War, my respects
Wonderful collection and great to see the vehicle’s so well cared for. Well done.
The panther is definitely the star of the festival...😍
The T34 had outside tanks for transport to the fight and then being made dry. It gave it, besides the diesel, a much longer range before and during the fighting. The absurd amounts of same type tanks being produced in the new Sovjet factories in the East (With American Industrial Expert being sent to help them) also made it impossible for the Germans to even try to follow, as also constant changes and modifications by the Germans made it hard/impossible to find the spares when needed. So many had to be left when they broke down. The Sovjet Tanks had interchangeable spares from all factories.
This museum is a national treasure. Thank you for the video.
I never knew we had tanks. Was planning go to Bovington to see WW2 tanks
And against the Russian SU 152 all we had here in America was the Sherman, and later the Pershing. That thing would have blown them to pieces...
That Panther tank is awsome with other German tanks following love it.
Awesome museum , would be even more so if we're on a mock battlefield , a face off between the German and Russian tanks .
Great museum and swing all those rare vehicles there and runners, amazes me. Great team. Wonder why you don't get one of your 2 Sentinel tanks running. Never seen one move under its own steam. X3 V8 Cadillac, first in out power pack (not counting including transmission), first one piece hull and it's Australian, although never used it was a beauty
@Silvie McQuade yeah, I mean its a '40s Caddy V8, there's quite a few in the US...
Nice of you to mention Militracks in Overloon.
Great show and hi from Mierlo.
Wow you all have done a fantastic job or restoring and maintaining these beautiful works of art.
That Panther is still a Beast
That Sdkfz251 thats not a 251 is absoloutly lovely.... what a nice vehicle
Great broadcast, guys! Thank you from Tennessee!
Fantastic show , but after the gigantic effort and cost , for the spectators ,the staff and drivers arnt in period uniform ? some with phones out !!! for many this is first and last once in a life time view of these armoured fighting machines .
Workplace Health and Safety.
🙄
An amazing grand parade. Cheers to the AZ team.
So amazing to see these beasts looking, sounding and moving just as they did so many years ago. Thank you to ALL at TAaUM for their hard work and the fine citizens who pay taxes & donations to support it ❤
No taxes or donations! It’s a privately owned museum :)
That is such an awesome collection of WWII armored vehicles!
Wow ! I'm able to watch this !. I thought this will be posted tomorrow. Thank you guys for awesome Live ! 👍
Minor homogeneous armor point: The angle where sloping a plate gives better resistance for a given weight of armor used than just making it thicker with no slope is 45-50 degrees from right angles. The exact angle depends on the plate thickness and projectile nose shape, but most AP/APC projectiles were not too different in this regard. The use of hardened AP caps with sharp corners to their forward faces can also cause increased penetration at higher obliquities, though the sharper the corner, the thinner the plate can be to get this improvements (135 degrees at the corner -- the widest corner angle that works -- requires at least a half-caliber plate thickness to get a 12% penetration velocity reduction at 50 degrees obliquity (minimum angle to get this bonus), with thinner plates needed for sharper corners to get the same bonus).
KV1 is what you are going to work on next
Outstanding video!
Great event there gang, you guys seem to be more relaxed and laid back than other tank museums like say, Bovington. Really like how most of the vehicle crews are wearing uniforms of the period that match the tank, that really adds a bit to the scene. Thanks for all the hard work and determination to pull this off. Amazing. Thumbs up from West Virginia.
Tremendous. I must attend having been to Bovington for their open day.
Great show guys - looking forward to the live feeds over the weekend.
Thanks OZ! This is Great!!!
The T-34.... WHERE'S THE LOG?!? You freaking forgot the log!
And the Swedes got a Tiger 2, which they used for target practice, so only a single part is left in the Swedish Tank Museum! I don't know if You have a Swedish S tank, of which many got donated to several Museums? I saw one in German Munster.
The tracks of the Panther really need to be tensioned. The effect is clearly seen @40:38.
Now it is pushing the track instead of pulling and is killing its tracks even faster.
"Working at the car wash , yeah!
Absolutely brilliant!!!
Lovely Collection!
It's nice to see all the old equipment being taken care of but I'm really surprised your country is letting you have any of it doesn't matter if it's been demilitarized or not hopefully the government doesn't make you get rid of everything
I do love to see running WW2 tanks. :D
Nicely done.
Got to get organised and get up there next year
@4:30 Exactly the same 'tactics' that we are seeing now in Ukraine. In all my years in the Army, we were taught about the massive waves of tanks that would be heading our way in Day One. Unbeknownst to most of us, that's exactly what the russians were expecting to see from OUR side.
I'm an Ex British Army REME tradesman, man and boy. Now living in OZ. Worked on everything from a Cent ARRV to a Lynx Helicopter and all points between.
Can i have job?
I am sure they could use your expertise, it's in Cairns though, the tropics is quite hot, so you'd need to be thin blooded to enjoy it.
During Normandy battles the panthers were notoriously known for there unreliability and complexity just like the king tiger for a start to replace the transmission assembly it was necessary to basically striped out various internal fittings the driver had a busy job driving that thing with unnecessary complicated steering mechanism the Turret compartment was too small and overworked the gunner However the suspension system was reputable superior to any tank in WW2 giving it's crew a smooth ride over various ground However the system was over complex if the suspension bars broke it was next to impossible to repair in the field even a simple task of having to remove one wheel with this design several other wheels had to to come off to get to the damaged one the crew either waited for a recovery vehicle or abandoned it The long barreled 75mm canon However was the ace up it's sleeve a very powerful gun it certainly kept British and American tankers on their toes special in defensive positions it's accuracy and firepower was superior to anything the allies had with a few exceptions the British 17 pounder mounted on the Sherman firefly and the towards the end of the war the American Pershing tank with a 90mm. In summary this is what happens when you let engineers take charge of tank design with no input from the crew who were going to war in it the Panther was a flawed design from the start it was unnecessary overcomplicate and complex rushed in service with many issue's this is not the tank Germany needed it needed a simple efficient reliable repairable by the crew and make lots of them it had a tank already in the wings the Panzer IV all they had to do was upgraded the frontal armour like the panther and armed with long barrelled 75mm the tank engineers already had proposals of this kind to upgrade the mark 5 Panzer it was a good tank good enough to meet any allied tank Adolf Hitler rejected the ideal he wanted bigger more powerful he got the mark 6 Panzer the Tiger 1 a good tank and one which the crew were more then happy to go to war in it but it cost twice as much as two mk5 panzers and took to long to produce in quantity
You mentioned Vietnam in your chatter that the vietnamese fought, well 1945 the british were in vietnam at the request of the french to take the surrender of the japanese troops stationed there, while this was going on, the british soon realized that it wasnt going to be a straight forward mission a certain guerrilla force The Viet Minh led by ho chi minh had other ideas, the british set about bringing seasoned soldiers from the burma conflict including the gurkhas troops and commenced operations fighting the viet minh the british also employed japanese soldiers in operations the british were there to take the surrender of japaneses soldiers not engage in jungle anti guerrilla operations, for the french theses engagements were successful and curtailed the viet minh insurgency by all accounts, however things were not good the british had a sense of a foreboding gloom about the place , certainty the british soldiers view was it felt a strange place and were glad to be leaving the british commander in charge realised this was going to be a long drawn out conflict for the french and perhaps a unwinnable, situation when the french arrived in force and took over from the british advised the french to seek and agreement with the viet minh leader, the french accordingly in a polite manner thanked the british and wish them a safe return home .
On the isu-152 u have is that shell damage to the gun barrel and if so is there history to where and what caused the hole near the end of barrel
Too bad it’s so far (I am in east Canada), great event!
Literally the only time we’re it’s Ok to See a Man in Full SS Nazi Commander Uniform….. I Appreciate How We Can All Appreciate Our Shared History Together and the Iconic things Produced in War Times….
They have a Soviet T-34/85, what a amazing!!! the best!!!!the others are filler
Will you guys be doing a KV-2 ?
Hobart's Funnies and Sappers RE specialist?
Good job👍👍👌👌
On the panther left side exhaust stack there are two smaller ones, can you enlighten me please to what there use is?
How much do you guys charge for the tank rides? Planning a treat for myself when I retire in a couple of years from my job in the UK.
Absolute shame this is the first I've heard of the historical conservation work done in Vietnam! Maybe a destination to go someday for museums and exhibitions.
It's Cairns Australia mate.
Remember we captured 8 of the T 34s of the 1st ZIPRA mECHANIZED iNFANTRY bRIGADE AT eNTUMBANE 1981 IN zIMBABWE. 1 rar bATTLE gROUP.
Do you have a T69? What flak 88 is in the field.
my best friend and his brother are there, bastards!! so jealous...
I can’t quite agree with disabling the WW2 vehicle weapons especially the German because there would be no live ammunition to fire, certainly in these museums. There are plenty of weapons own by people who use them responsibly and safely. Seems like an unnecessary law. Maybe someone in the comments knows the reason and could shed some more light on this subject 🤔
In Australia there are categories for different firearms, allowing for private ownership of basic firearms such as air rifles, shotguns, bolt actions etc. For a firearm that is semi-automatic ownership is quite heavily restricted and requires a high degree of evidence and reason [professional hunter for instance] to own with further restrictions on use. You can see where this is going, for a working example of anything with a larger barrel than .50cal or a machine gun or destructive devices it's really only dealers who sell to government agencies that have any kind of way of possessing. There is some degree of grandfathering with 'collectors' and museums, that is older gear that they had some leeway, though as this was brought in from another country there's no option. The aim was to decrease the availability of arms other than the rudimentary.
I would agree with your sentiment, I find destroying a beautiful piece of history to be hysterical. Though that's the way it is.
@@blogobre thanks for your view and info!
At the Ontario Regiment Museum they do tank duels with fake charges but lots of noise and smoke! Smaller WWII collection but still impressive and all running
@@Whatisthisstupidfinghandle better than drilling hole in the guns😧
Hi guys if you r talking about WWII you have to use Soviet not Russian ...or Red Army
The tottally tanked podcast team Rob and John are there lucky bastards. Though looking forward to any vids that the Chieftian makes there. Some more inside the hatch vids incoming.
Link to the podcast? Is it on TH-cam?
😎👍👍👏
Where's the Japanese tanks? *So, considering Japanese tanks must only cost a few quid, I'm guessing the current Bruce's feel short-changed by WW2?
What a shame you have to cut the gun barrel and the breach it’s not like you can go to the nearest gun dealer and pick up ammunition for it.
shame no sound of the tanks
It's a shame that the guns aren't capable of firing!
Что-то у Т-34-85 башня длинновата... В Австралии решили что так лучше?)) Вроде они там в этом музее всё по чертежам восстанавливают, нет? Моддинг присутствует?)
Something about the T-34-85 tower is too long ... In Australia, they decided that it’s better?)) It seems that they are restoring everything in this museum according to the drawings, no? Is there modding?
fat trolling
shod get the chifton on the vedos
It's disappointing that you have to cut a big hole in the barrel of the main gun to meet firearms regulations..
I mean come on, it's not like Australia has a vast stockpile of Russian 152mm high explosive laying around..
How I don’t like the coloring of Soviet tanks, this terrible clichéd green coloring, clichéd star (only the sickle and hammer inside are missing), clichéd
white numbers, the font of which was not used by anyone, the unfinished restoration of the ISU-152 self-propelled gun, the tanks are poorly painted, and one of them is still unfinished. I have a question why you restored Soviet tanks so badly, but you restore German, American tanks so well,
British, and not only technology, why so bad, why?
You may have missed it, but the ISU was acquired within the last year and the poor assembly was done by a prior owner. It had been a basketcase gate guardian so isn't well done. Your comments are misdirected.
@@jeffkeith637 Then explain to me why the T-34-85 tank and the ISU-152 self-propelled guns have the same color and font of numbers?
Did they belong to the same owner?
@@shcolotron-13 no idea mate, just telling you they haven't been completely restored to theatre-correct standard yet. It's not a huge company they can't do everything at once. Might as well do the good stuff first and leave the rest for later.
Its shocking the fact that the germans considered both medium tanks the Panther and Pz IV.... The panther weights similar to a JSII...
That’s because Germans tanks were classified by gun size not weight of vehicle. 75mm was a medium calibre, hence the Panther was a Medium Tank
Time to war thunder
Needs more wind noise in the microphone.
STOP TALKING when this tanks start riding! U ruin everything.
3:14 fat aSS reenactor can barely climb his Panzer
The Speaker its a Bird 👎🏻
Too much standing around ...
This is cool and boring at the same time. I say this because it is very cool to see these tanks run and drive. but that's where the excitement stops for me. The guns don't fire and all they do is drive in circles, in a formation as if there waiting for there turn at a buffet. There is no battle reenactment so that sucks. Honestly, you guys need to come up with new things in my opinion.
There's always one...
You want to see tanks at a local museum blowing holes in the sides of mountains? lol. If you can't enjoy the spectacle the next level up is go join the army and become a tank commander, then you can shoot, or play warthunder :)
