  • Hi folks this is a video of the retrofit of the Onstep system to the CGE pro sorry it's a bit of a long video this time I really need to learn better video editing skills, the kit wasn't to difficult to fit & I had the mount slewing soon after fitting it on Monday.
    Massive thanks to Chad for building these kits as I know there were some issues with some of these mounts in the past & as spares are near impossible to get now it seems to be a logical choice. Also thanks for your assistance in helping me get the mount to work in NINA
    For anyone interested you can buy them here;

    I found out that you need to download drivers to get the laptop to talk to the Onstep system so this is the link to the site;

    Operation successful by the look of things. Although the motor sound did remind me a bit of the dentist’s drill 😮😅.

      If I remember I'll speed it up next time I slew the thing as it doesn't sound so bad then lol, I probably won't be putting it in the observatory until late spring with galaxy season coming so I'll probably stick with testing etc in the meantime to get a feel for it.

    Nice job Tich👍 it sounded like a jet engine starting up🤣 I’ve got to get my mount and rig all hooked up to Nina now, that’s the next stage with the obsey! Clear skies!

      That's what I thought when I first slewed the mount, you can change the speeds but I'm fine with it at the default setting, NINA is a bit of a learning curve but you'll soon get used to it, thanks for watching & clear skies!!

    Great video. I've just acquired a CGE pro, and I am thinking on this kit. So pleased you took the time to record and share.

      Thanks for watching Chad who makes these kits has printed off some well written instructions on how to fit it very easy to follow, didn't take to long to fit & with it being belt driven a lot better than the original in my opinion & hopefully more reliable to. Onstep is a bit of a learning curve but as my mount is permanently fitted in the observatory now it's plugged into the mini PC & ASCOM NINA etc does all the work as I just use it for imaging with a RASA 11 or whatever other scope I decide to put on there.

    Onstep is da bomb. Gave my old mount a second chance. Hope you enjoy.

      So far it seems to be ok, I've just been having it tracking in my home for now but it's working with NINA just fine to so fingers crossed when I give it a first light.

    Thnx for the vid.
    I have the cge pro to and also am looking at the onstep.
    Can u give a review?
    How accurate is the tracking without guiding ? Also in the vid it seems to make a lot of noise, is this in reallife also? Thnx

    • @dumpydalekobservatory
      @dumpydalekobservatory  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi I think I've commented on one of your videos about the CGE pro you own? My mount was dead when I got it so I can't really compare it with an original mount regarding the noise. I have since sped up the slew speed in the settings so the motors spin up faster but it slews with a RASA 11 with ease & that's 20KG without any cameras attached. The OnStep system is bit of a learning curve as the software is nothing like original Celestron so when it's powered up you have to un-park the mount to enable tracking then align & use the GOTO. I still need to give it a first light though as the weather has been pretty poor for weeks since I bought the kit so pointing accuracy & tracking I cannot comment how good it is, plus I'll be using NINA & PHD for when I image but I could do a video on the handset or app control when I get a chance to use it as it's set up in the observatory waiting & ready to go.
      If you check out Chad's website or even enquire about it I'm sure he can give more definitive answers but I shall give it a go with the handset after a polar alignment to see how it operates. If I manage to get a first light then I'll upload a video as soon as I can so thanks for watching.

      Thnk you for the comment. I always am careful with what is posted on a website.
      My cge pro works again after a new mc board. However i find the tracking not very accurate without guiding.
      Its nice to hear that u are pleased with it. Im first gonna build a new observatory and then i think i will go for the onstep. Thnk you
