I was with my grandparents riding over the bridge on opening day in 1969.

My father worked as a crane operator on this bridge when it was being constructed - great film, thanks for posting.

Just think, the engineers really knew how to build a bridge still existing after fifty years

Been 'studying' that condo collapse in Florida... Makes you wonder about all structures. I wonder what issues if any, this bridge has? Seems it would be vulnerable being IN the salt water, and older than the Florida structure.

@@gregoryagogo There are places on the bridge that no painters or inspectors can get to!

Today, it would probably be easier to tunnel under the bay.

The construction of this bridge ultimately destroyed the Coronado branch rail line....

Which was kind of dumb if you think about it! I like that the road bed was turned into a trail, but a train from DT to Coronado would be cool!

Enough about the tunnel! Off with your heads! The first residents of the island was and shall always be the US NAVY! Growing up in Coronado, the US NAVY and the town of Coronado, made up of mostly Active Duty, Retired and their dependents, along with many civilians had a great neighborly relationship. Why do you think the swim team kept changing its name? CORONADO NAVY SWIM TEAM (When our old city pool was being drained, repaired and repainted, the swimmers used the Amphibian. Base pool) then it became CORONADO SWIM TEAM. The name change went back and forth twice I remember, during the years of 1973 - 1986. Until the civilians turned into VILLAINS. All they did and do now is complain about everything!! I don't remember the parents or the POLICE doing anything about the SEXUAL PREDATORS and STALKERS, that lived in the Shores and like clockwork would man their telescopes after we were finished with swim practice and run to the warm showers in the OPEN, NO ROOF Locker room of decaying wood and no privacy for the creepy freaks to view us girls from their telescopes. I remember we would point them out to the coaches, who did nothing about it. Why is it that no matter the generation, adults never believe children, when it comes to the creepy dangerous people that make up our society? Yes, even in Coronado they existed and today still do.
