tds is the perfect example of a good, popular roblox game its towers are branched out, although its grindy you can expect atleast 2-4 refreshing updates, its gamepasses dont give a significant advantage, as I dont think theres someone crazy enough to spend 6k robux on a tower that can be obtained in the first 60 hours of playing the game you dont have to be a super pro lvl 200 with most of the event towers to enjoy the game, even badlands (third hardest gamemode) can be beaten with a squad of level 40 players if coordinated correctly honestly, tds is my favorite game on roblox currently, might be because most games are just trash but I just think its comforting
Also, PTW is very looked down upon by the community, mostly because it takes hours or even days to do it the legit way, and it should be that way, because it gives you opportunities to learn how to get better.
They say with great power comes great responsibility but roblox abused the power to make sure the bad games are on the front page due to it not being the most popular/well made games its now only the ones that rake in the big bucks so roblox itself is assisting the games by putting them on the front page and not the games that are as popular but less money driven.
roblox implemented a new system, if your game doesn't make as much money, then its not on the front page, ive seen several games such as slap battles, TDS and many more who struggle to fight aggenst the games that just have a p2w option for EVERYTHING. its quite sad because most of these games, we have seen that the developers didnt want to resort to adding p2w assets but roblox messed everything up for these devs, so that they could get more money (even though they are a BILLION DOLAR COMPANY.) and the games that were already gamepass heavy, its not a huge deal for them, because they get more reognition. Its completely rigged for actual game devs who want to make there game good, and all of these copies of games and cash grabs are stealing all of the glory for themselves because roblox allows it.

UGC limiteds are way more expensive to make than normal UGC since you have to pay for each copy of the item, a 10k stock item for example would be 150k robux or more depending if its a hat, face, or back accessory, apart from that, great video
I may not have not watched the whole thing, but since the main point is the question if TDS is greedy or not, its simply no. None of the main content, that being the gamemodes and permanent towers, are locked behind paywalls. The only things locked behind paywalls are optional content (Deluxe Crates, Phantom Crates, and past event towers) that is conisdered premium (these do not include skin bundles or stuff like Cowboy or Engineer since they are accessible by putting enough time into the game). And if ur thinking about "well what about the gamepasses", again thats optional content as well as just making the optional content you would put your time in, to something you get automatically with money if you don't want to make the effort into getting those said items. And as well since the game is made by multiple people, you cannot, and I repeat this, you CANNOT expect them to put everything free and accessible. If anything, one should be incredibly grateful that most of their optional content is accessible by putting in the time and effort (Weekly Quests, Pass Rewards, and just Login Rewards). Development costs a lot of money especially if ur in a team. Roblox dev ex rates are a whole another issue i wont be bothered to get into as the main focus point was if TDS is considered greedy or not.
If they were truly greedy, they’d ONLY keep towers like the engineer or cowboy ONLY behind a pay wall. Yet with engineer (Idk about cowboy anymore) you have the choice to pay for the tower or grind for it. Same with accel even tho he’s not a gamepass you can still purchase gems and buy him by doing that instead of grinding. Sure things like plushies or the premium and deluxe crates exist but they’re just skins that don’t give a special perk to them. Yeah sure event towers being locked behind a pay wall exists too but that may eventually change. So yes, TDS can be a little bit greedy here and there but they’re really a mix of greedy and generous I believe.
Watching the video and seeing how absolutely shit the robux conversion rate is, and how scummy Roblox truly operates, I don't think they are greedy at all, even with all this income they are barely getting by. Unlike other games TDS puts in quality and effort, they take time for animations, events, reworks etc. Other games in the genre are there to maximize profits, encouraging kids to gamble, and couldn't care less about the game, it's only a tool for them to make cash. But it isn't their fault either, Roblox is the real asshole here, the fact that not only do they tolerate but ENCOURAGE devs for this behavior, creating a system where the scummiest scumbags come out on top, no wonder it happens. This is all much more well explained in the video and I basically just regurgitated the info but I'm afraid not many people know about this. If I'm not mistaken, the Krampus event was also made in a very short period of time, but this time it didn't come with so many bugs, and most people liked the event because it innovated with that mechanic of skipping bosses and using that map transition in a much cleaner and smoother way, in addition to the Christmas missions and the battle pass, you can see the effort they were putting in to compensate for the previous event

to be honest, it isn’t THAT greedy because you can/could’ve got everything that cost robux for free (except some skins I think) but compared to games to pet simulators which charge $250 for a VIRTUAL PET I think it is not p2w but just a option . in summary tds isn’t p2w compared to other games on Roblox but it it isn’t required, also all the devs need to be paid so it makes sense how some cosmetics/ merch is money.
That’s why I wouldn’t be claiming their greedy if they weren’t on Roblox, they would has less monetization. But it’s fine as long as the game doesn’t have 500 pop ups and doesn’t require pay 2 win.

As someone who collects plushies I think the pricing on them is honestly great. Companies like makeship make lower quality plushies that are smaller for the same price, and they don’t even come with in game rewards. TDS plushies are in my opinion a perfectly reasonable price.

The difference is. TDS can unlock the towers with money, and you can get money very easily. but most of the others aren't, for example TTD it needs you to gamble to have a chance to get the BEST tower

Also the actual conversion rate (Based on the $1 --> 80 R$ transaction) would be $0.012 US dollars, which is much more than the 0.0035 they give, which means roblox is taxing robux transactions as soon as you buy them! tds is a very well made game but once they started rereleasing rare skins and more updates mainly based on robux, i ended up quitting. i started playing tds in 2021 and quit at the start of 2023. at first i thought they were greedy (which in a way they kind of are) (its roblox’s fault tho definitely) and i dont wanna spend bank on the game. i find it so unfair that skins from previous updates started getting rereleased (which makes the game pointless and the only thing u can do is grind endlessly or spend money for some skins that are worth nothing.) its sad but i believe tds will eventually die due to lack of updates and the gameplay getting repetitive, unless all of a sudden roblox fixes the stupid devEx rates. also great video, very informative and the first tds video ive watched in over a year. underrated.
Thank you, I agree, but I think that what they did in the christmas update could save their game. If they stop making a whole new batch of enemies and ruse old ones, (or mostly) for events, they can be released more often and a lot sooner. That could save the game.
tbh idrc about skins/cosmetics being robux or level towers being robux (its pve so better progression helps me if anything bc my teammates have better stuff) but event towers only coming back for robux is super dumb

Please take this into consideration from the developers standpoint, the financial state of development teams is scarcely revealed today as it is a touchy topic. Just trust the devs who brought you so many good things before and remember not to be too harsh on them as that is how the pvz games died (not like anyone will read this)

Ttd developers get paid mostly by their channels which means if tds made one showing things like what updates and things that they were going to add they could probably add updates much quicker because they could pay their developers more .
Around 2022 TDS got me so stressed when they first released elf camp because the only people who would play the challenge with me were young kids who weren’t good at the game- so I bought it. And I’m pretty sure that was the last gamepass I ever bought.
Right now, it's not as greedy. Since you can get deluxe crates, now. In terms of the towers that you need robux, some of then can be bought (Engi, Accel), but if we're talking about the other stuff (Gladiator, Frost Blaster, Sledger) then I can't help with that. There's also the UGC, which is... Yeah... No.
To be honest, while i do agree that we should stop playing these cash grabby trashy games, the problem is that a lot of kids play roblox, and its really hard to convince them to not play those games when they have little to no understanding about money, what makes a game good, etc. This is a problem that unfortunately will most likely get worse and worse as time passes because more kids are starting to have ipads, iphones, and other electronic devices at younger ages, which will probably exponentially make the current problems 10x worse.
As a developer for FNaF: TD I completely agree we got blown out of the water from FN TD while their game is just a shit gamble game. The game i work on looks so much better but updates take a while because we actually take pride in our quality of the game. Fnaf TD averages like 250-500 players while FN TD has exploded to average like over 10k players
The *ONLY* thing these cash grab td games have over TDS and that other one that’s similar (the extreme one which isn’t a cash grab), is the level select system, ASTD has one of the best one in my opinion. Has multiple little area things you go into, you choose the one for the type of mode you want, then clock exactly what level you. Meanwhile in TDS and the other one you have to sit around and wait for the level and mode you want to finally appear which just gets rather annoying. That’s just the only problem I got with them and what keeps me from playing them (I already quit the child gambling ones already long ago)

TDS has money but the updates sometimes end up not being good, for example Halloween 2023 was good but suffered a lot of hate because in addition to many bugs and the event being terribly difficult, they had to make several correction updates, the cutscenes with no animation and they could hire an animator ''something they didn't do'' and nowadays they only do small updates and not big ones like summer events or events like that with lots of items and lots of things and towers that were shown to the public, but were never released (like the hacker, the kingpin, the juggernault, etc.) this is something I really hate on TDS (below is a good creator but sometimes ends up ruining the game a little)...

You made some great points in this video, but I feel like TDS still makes a lot of money off the game, even when considering Roblox's 70% revenue tax. For example; We could look at gamepasses such as the VIP gamepass (, which costs 400R$), and has over 30k (guaranteed) sales. After doing Roblox's revenue tax, the amount of Dollars it totals to is: 29,400 USD off ONE gamepass. I'm too tired to calculate how much every gamepass has made the TDS developers, as there's plenty, so knowing that the VIP gamepass has the most sales and is the gamepass that made them the most money, they probably made about 100,000 USD off all of the gamepasses combined. There's also other smaller factors such as: Deluxe Crate (250R$) , Phantom Crate (250R$) , Premium Crate (80R$) , paying Robux to level up in the seasonpass (The amount of R$ depends on the level) , buying gifts (200R$ for each), (buyable) coins and gems (The amount of R$ depends on the amount of gems/coins). Also, I don't think the developers lack funds because they even managed to rent/buy an office of their own in Illinois in the name of Paradoxum Games (I'm pretty sure). BUT, you do have some great points, like the great size of the TDS developing team, and they also have to pay all of them, so they could also have a roof over their head. as you already mentioned in the video, the Plushies and merchandise are probably their greatest source of income, because once they sell something, they "only" have to pay the IRS (a little bit compared to Roblox) and that's it. I still do believe that they make a lot of money, otherwise they wouldn't even bother updating the game and would follow games like Toilet Tower Defense which are effortlessly made/updated just for the creator's benefit. Even if its montly sale, the devs are being paid just enough for a living. Also the roblox game market is as sustainable as if you pour your entire living into a random chinese company that manufactures plastic toys. You are not sure your money is going somewhere, you cant "quality check" the product to see if its up to standard. Your devs might be spending 50K on animation idk it hazbin a long time. Just know that you cant even assure if the money is going somewhere, or if it's worth the effort. Every update the team are basically gambling their life savings on an update players might not even like.

To what I know, the owners of the games I've listed can live comfortably with no worries. TDS does seem to pour a lot of money into every update but in return they make a lot of money. Further fueling the developers to continue working on the game, as it's profitable for them.

Honestly I’ve been noticing Roblox promoting cash grabby games, I used to not enjoy tds’ “greediness” but I now realize that they do this because of Roblox forces them. Personally as a fairly unknown roblox game dev, I’ve noticed how my tower defense game barely gets traction cause I’m unable to put in money. And it annoys me how games like Toilet Tower Defense get recognition for generating a lot of money. tl;dr: used to hate tds for greed, realized as a small roblox dev that roblox promotes games that make money.

heck, its not just the tower defense community thats suffering with gambling, a somewhat popular game called criminality added skin crates for over half a year, with a potential for golden skins which offer a "slight" advantage, like a faster reload or more damage / explosion radius. the platform is basically fugged cus of how common gambling is in more and more games. less is done about the content of the games and more about monetisation.

UGC limiteds are way more expensive to make than normal UGC since you have to pay for each copy of the item, a 10k stock item for example would be 150k robux or more depending if its a hat, face, or back accessory, apart from that, great video

None of the main content, that being the gamemodes and permanent towers, are locked behind paywalls. The only things locked behind paywalls are optional content (Deluxe Crates, Phantom Crates, and past event towers) that is conisdered premium (these do not include skin bundles or stuff like Cowboy or Engineer since they are accessible by putting enough time into the game).
And if ur thinking about "well what about the gamepasses", again thats optional content as well as just making the optional content you would put your time in, to something you get automatically with money if you don't want to make the effort into getting those said items.
And as well since the game is made by multiple people, you cannot, and I repeat this, you CANNOT expect them to put everything free and accessible. If anything, one should be incredibly grateful that most of their optional content is accessible by putting in the time and effort (Weekly Quests, Pass Rewards, and just Login Rewards). Development costs a lot of money especially if ur in a team. Roblox dev ex rates are a whole another issue i wont be bothered to get into as the main focus point was if TDS is considered greedy or not.

If they were truly greedy, they’d ONLY keep towers like the engineer or cowboy ONLY behind a pay wall. Yet with engineer (Idk about cowboy anymore) you have the choice to pay for the tower or grind for it. Same with accel even tho he’s not a gamepass you can still purchase gems and buy him by doing that instead of grinding. Sure things like plushies or the premium and deluxe crates exist but they’re just skins that don’t give a special perk to them. Yeah sure event towers being locked behind a pay wall exists too but that may eventually change. So yes, TDS can be a little bit greedy here and there but they’re really a mix of greedy and generous I believe.

Watching the video and seeing how absolutely shit the robux conversion rate is, and how scummy Roblox truly operates, I don't think they are greedy at all, even with all this income they are barely getting by. Unlike other games TDS puts in quality and effort, they take time for animations, events, reworks etc. Other games in the genre are there to maximize profits, encouraging kids to gamble, and couldn't care less about the game, it's only a tool for them to make cash. But it isn't their fault either, Roblox is the real asshole here, the fact that not only do they tolerate but ENCOURAGE devs for this behavior, creating a system where the scummiest scumbags come out on top, no wonder it happens. This is all much more well explained in the video and I basically just regurgitated the info but I'm afraid not many people know about this. I just honestly think it’s annoying that people call tds devs lazy and say they should be able to get updates out faster, and when devs did try and do this (act 3) it went south and the event was impossible and buggy, then the community blames the devs for pushing the update when really the community was pushing it. If I'm not mistaken, the Krampus event was also made in a very short period of time, but this time it didn't come with so many bugs, and most people liked the event because it innovated with that mechanic of skipping bosses and using that map transition in a much cleaner and smoother way, in addition to the Christmas missions and the battle pass, you can see the effort they were putting in to compensate for the previous event

As someone who collects plushies I think the pricing on them is honestly great. Companies like makeship make lower quality plushies that are smaller for the same price, and they don’t even come with in game rewards. TDS plushies are in my opinion a perfectly reasonable price.

tds is a very well made game but once they started rereleasing rare skins and more updates mainly based on robux, i ended up quitting. i started playing tds in 2021 and quit at the start of 2023. at first i thought they were greedy (which in a way they kind of are) (its roblox’s fault tho definitely) and i dont wanna spend bank on the game. i find it so unfair that skins from previous updates started getting rereleased (which makes the game pointless and the only thing u can do is grind endlessly or spend money for some skins that are worth nothing.) its sad but i believe tds will eventually die due to lack of updates and the gameplay getting repetitive, unless all of a sudden roblox fixes the stupid devEx rates. also great video, very informative and the first tds video ive watched in over a year. underrated.
Thank you, I agree, but I think that what they did in the christmas update could save their game. If they stop making a whole new batch of enemies and ruse old ones, (or mostly) for events, they can be released more often and a lot sooner. That could save the game.

Please take this into consideration from the developers standpoint, the financial state of development teams is scarcely revealed today as it is a touchy topic. Just trust the devs who brought you so many good things before and remember not to be too harsh on them as that is how the pvz games died (not like anyone will read this)

Right now, it's not as greedy. Since you can get deluxe crates, now. In terms of the towers that you need robux, some of then can be bought (Engi, Accel), but if we're talking about the other stuff (Gladiator, Frost Blaster, Sledger) then I can't help with that.

To be honest, while i do agree that we should stop playing these cash grabby trashy games, the problem is that a lot of kids play roblox, and its really hard to convince them to not play those games when they have little to no understanding about money, what makes a game good, etc. This is a problem that unfortunately will most likely get worse and worse as time passes because more kids are starting to have ipads, iphones, and other electronic devices at younger ages, which will probably exponentially make the current problems 10x worse.

As a developer for FNaF: TD I completely agree we got blown out of the water from FN TD while their game is just a shit gamble game. The game i work on looks so much better but updates take a while because we actually take pride in our quality of the game. Fnaf TD averages like 250-500 players while FN TD has exploded to average like over 10k players

The *ONLY* thing these cash grab td games have over TDS and that other one that’s similar (the extreme one which isn’t a cash grab), is the level select system, ASTD has one of the best one in my opinion.
Has multiple little area things you go into, you choose the one for the type of mode you want, then clock exactly what level you. Meanwhile in TDS and the other one you have to sit around and wait for the level and mode you want to finally appear which just gets rather annoying. That’s just the only problem I got with them and what keeps me from playing them (I already quit the child gambling ones already long ago)

TDS has money but the updates sometimes end up not being good, for example Halloween 2023 was good but suffered a lot of hate because in addition to many bugs and the event being terribly difficult, they had to make several correction updates, the cutscenes with no animation and they could hire an animator ''something they didn't do'' and nowadays they only do small updates and not big ones like summer events or events like that with lots of items and lots of things and towers that were shown to the public, but were never released (like the hacker, the kingpin, the juggernault, etc.) this is something I really hate on TDS (below is a good creator but sometimes ends up ruining the game a little)...

You made some great points in this video, but I feel like TDS still makes a lot of money off the game, even when considering Roblox's 70% revenue tax.
For example;
We could look at gamepasses such as the VIP gamepass (, which costs 400R$), and has over 30k (guaranteed) sales.
After doing Roblox's revenue tax, the amount of Dollars it totals to is:
29,400 USD off ONE gamepass.
I'm too tired to calculate how much every gamepass has made the TDS developers, as there's plenty, so knowing that the VIP gamepass has the most sales and is the gamepass that made them the most money, they probably made about 100,000 USD off all of the gamepasses combined.
There's also other smaller factors such as: Deluxe Crate (250R$) , Phantom Crate (250R$) , Premium Crate (80R$) , paying Robux to level up in the seasonpass (The amount of R$ depends on the level) , buying gifts (200R$ for each), (buyable) coins and gems (The amount of R$ depends on the amount of gems/coins).
Also, I don't think the developers lack funds because they even managed to rent/buy an office of their own in Illinois in the name of Paradoxum Games (I'm pretty sure).
BUT, you do have some great points, like the great size of the TDS developing team, and they also have to pay all of them, so they could also have a roof over their head.
as you already mentioned in the video, the Plushies and merchandise are probably their greatest source of income, because once they sell something, they "only" have to pay the IRS (a little bit compared to Roblox) and that's it.
I still do believe that they make a lot of money, otherwise they wouldn't even bother updating the game and would follow games like Toilet Tower Defense which are effortlessly made/updated just for the creator's benefit.

Even if its montly sale, the devs are being paid just enough for a living. Also the roblox game market is as sustainable as if you pour your entire living into a random chinese company that manufactures plastic toys. You are not sure your money is going somewhere, you cant "quality check" the product to see if its up to standard. Your devs might be spending 50K on animation idk it hazbin a long time. Just know that you cant even assure if the money is going somewhere, or if it's worth the effort. Every update the team are basically gambling their life savings on an update players might not even like.

Honestly I’ve been noticing Roblox promoting cash grabby games, I used to not enjoy tds’ “greediness” but I now realize that they do this because of Roblox forces them.
Personally as a fairly unknown roblox game dev, I’ve noticed how my tower defense game barely gets traction cause I’m unable to put in money. And it annoys me how games like Toilet Tower Defense get recognition for generating a lot of money.

heck, its not just the tower defense community thats suffering with gambling, a somewhat popular game called criminality added skin crates for over half a year, with a potential for golden skins which offer a "slight" advantage, like a faster reload or more damage / explosion radius. the platform is basically fugged cus of how common gambling is in more and more games. less is done about the content of the games and more about monetisation.
