Woody helping beat Michigan even after hes retired.Wow.Credit Nick Saban for learning from one of the greats to become one of the greats...if not the greatest.I am not a bama fan,but let's get real..Nick Saban is awesome.
Nick learned from the best coach of his era, Wayne Woodrow Hayes! A lot of people don’t know that Saban was an assistant, along with Urban Meyer, at Ohio State! Not a Bama fan, Buckeye fan of course, but Saban is no doubt, one of greatest, if not the greatest coach of all-time! 🌰🏈
My high school football coach often cited Woody Hayes as his greatest influence. He never knew Woody or coached with him but rather merely attended a coaching clinic that Coach Hayes spoke at when my coach was just starting out. He said Hayes spoke for over two hours and didnt say one word about blocking, tackling, or scheme.....and never even mentioned the word "football." It was ALL about People. Being there. Caring. Responsibility. Accountability. Common purpose. Belief. So this Saban story about Woody citing history to help people turn water into wine doesnt shock me in the least. You're an idiot if you believe the Clemson game defines that man. Oh btw....my coach retired with the most career big school wins (at the time) in state history too.
Woody was the best! Great man! You are right saying that anyone who defines Woody for the Clemson incident is an idiot! Absolutely! Buckeye fan for life! 🌰🏈
It doesn't define him but it does say he was a sore loser...and what other coach punched an opposing player like that. He should have only been mad at himself for passing on 3rd and 5 when they were already in field goal range to win the game. He was so out of control I believe that if he had a weapon he would have used it.
Correct. I understand writer’s embellishment but a few corrections to Nick’s story: 1. Michigan had lost two games before this game and was ranked #7, not #1. 2. I can’t find the spread anywhere but I suspect Michigan was favored by 7-10 points, not 17. 3. Ohio State did not dominate the game. Michigan outgained OSU 367-257 but had four turnovers. Schlichter scored a TD with 2:50 remaining to win the game 14-9.
A bunch of those Southerners forget that their idol got his start up North and in the B1G. Saban results arguably make him the GOAT of NCAA football coaches. Enjoy retirement!
Michigan fan here and grew up during the "Bo & Woody" era... Absolutely Loved Woody Hayes!
“Anything easy ain’t worth a damn” - Woody Hayes
And! You can’t play football with a hard-on! Love woody, and The Ohio State! 🌰🏈
“if you intercept a ball, I will punch you in the neck.”
- Woody Hayes

@@Floridacoastwriter Woody was a good guy except for on the football field. Soft-spoken, kind-hearted, generous. On the sidelines - crazy.

Wayne Woodrow Hayes's had foresight and vision which far surpassed and transcended most of those around him.
greg j and then he punched a Clemson player in the throat, got fired the next day and never coached another. Loser
Mitch Goldenberg He’s not a loser. Losers don’t have 5 National Championships.
NCISfanatic21 I’m a Notre Dame fan and I couldn’t argue about that who cares what he did he was amazing coach
@@mitchgoldenberg4397 I’m sure woody has won more than you bud
I approve this message
you can tell Saban got alot of inspiration from Woody
Including the necessary attitude of coaching in college, compared to the NFL. Something Meyer didn't learn, but has now.
Goodness, I love the Buckeyes

It was 1981, nick.
Football is life.
Has to be referring to the '81 game...

John Belushi did the best Woody Hayes impersonation.
I've never seen Belushis imitation. I wish I had.
King me?!
Seen it didn't like it
It’s on TH-cam. Can’t link, but look it up.

😂😂
What year was that?
1981.
Also this great quote from Woody, “There can be no interceptions without getting throat punched”. Really, I think, one of my favorites.
My favorite quote by Woody was when he said, You can’t play football with a hard-on! Love Woody! 🌰🏈
My, how heart warming. Pr*ck Saban doesn't mention that Woody Hayes was a psychopath who slugged an opposing player after an interception on live TV.
