Doesn't that duplicate the efforts of open source programming language standard libraries, Rosetta Code and similar projects? Have you considered using them? Why does the implementation have no human readable function and variable names? Is it supposed to be useful outside of the Wikimedia ecosystem? Like, will there be a Python Library with all the python functions and how would they add any value to the existing ones? from wikifunctions import Z10000

"Doesn't that duplicate the efforts of open source programming language standard libraries, Rosetta Code and similar projects?" To the best of my knowledge there is no page that allows to easily call and create new functions on the Web. Rosetta Code is a great site, but has a very different focus. Standard libraries from programming languages we support will be easily made available through Wikifunctions, as can be seen here: www.wikifunctions.org/view/en/Z10021 "Have you considered using them?" Yes, we have surveyed a number of potentially related pages, and could not find of related pages and couldn't find anything that fit our requirements. "Why does the implementation have no human readable function and variable names?" We are working on improving the UX on implementation pages. Both the function and the arguments have human readable labels (per natural language even), but they are currently not used on the implementation itself. "Is it supposed to be useful outside of the Wikimedia ecosystem?" Yes, just like MediaWiki, Commons, and Wikidata are all useful outside of the Wikimedia system, we aim for the same for Wikifunctions. "Like, will there be a Python Library with all the python functions and how would they add any value to the existing ones? from wikifunctions import Z10000" I certainly hope so! I am looking forward to see what kind of libraries will be there in the future. I would hope at least that it won't be "from wikifunctions import Z10000" but rather "from wikifunctions import Z10000 as concatenate" :) Also, I hope that in Python you wouldn't be restricted to just the functions that have a Python implementation, but that all functions will be available.
@ thanks for the response! Your presentation in the video was very good and the current site is a bit underwhelming. It would be great to see a practical example how this will benefit people. I understand they will come later and this is just the beginning. (I struggle from depression, which can explain why i have these negative thoughts and be impatient) How would it be possible to use a wikifunction in python which has no implementation in python? The vision of Abstract Wikipedia is really great and i'm exited to see you are making progress there. Thanks for your work!

@@davidak_de I'm really sorry to hear that you're dealing with depression. It takes a lot to open up about such personal experiences, and I want you to know that you're not alone. Many people face similar challenges, and it's important to reach out for support. I agree that the site is really just in its beginning. In case you had those experiences, remember how Wikidata was in the first few months, or Wikipedia in the first year or two. Over time I expect the site to accumulate an interesting library of functions and to have its value be more immediately visible. For now, we are looking for a community to grow the site with. There is a lot to do still!
Cool!

Very exciting! I am happy to see this launch!
Thank you!
This is fantastic, Denny! 🤗
Thank you!
A bit tough to hear, but much appreciated.
You mean the audio quality?
