Amazing breakdown. Appreciate your trip and route details. Looks like such a great way to enjoy retirement. You've changed my mind on an RV retirement plan. This is a fantastic option for traveling the world at 1/3 of the cost of an RV!!! Thanks for sharing Brian and Carrie. Cheers!
We’re now in our 4th year of full-time travel. And are also slow travelers. We no longer own any real estate but our “home”, e.g. our storage shed and doctors are in Gig Harbor, WA. We find we need at least 6 weeks there annually to deal with medical issues, new glasses, etc. And we cruise rather than fly whenever possible. I enjoy your videos and comparing/contrasting with our experiences. We spend a fair amount more than you do (around $100K a year) but we also are likely to have fewer years on the planet than you two. Live Your Life. Live Your Life!
Gig Harbor is a nice place to call home, especially in the summertime. Thank you for watching and commenting! Safe travels!! ❤
Can I ask where you additional expenses are? Dining out? Flying business class?
@@chandrakasakevich4657 We DO like to eat at fancy restaurants! We never fly business class. We also splurge on experiences (tours, concerts, etc). And the 100K includes $8-$10K a year in charitable giving.
You should do a comparison of your cost abroad for a year vs. what you would have spent staying in the US for a year.
That's a great idea, Ben!! We may have to brainstorm that one!! Thank you!!!
Cheers!!🍻
This would be a great comparison.
That’s an amazing idea!
I love this idea!!
I'd dare to guesstimate that Seattle area perhaps bare minimum $60-80K per year. $80K would mean $110 per person per day. Travel is definitely cheaper, not to mention the fun, the experience, and the beers, too
I love this video! I retired early last year (age 53) and people don’t believe me when I tell them it’s cheaper for me to travel the world than staying at home. I solo travel since my husband is still working. However, I was able to keep a year’s worth of travel to less than $20k a year.
That's so awesome, great job!
You travel and leave your husband at home. lol
have you made any vlogs about it? This would be more valuable than a couple spending over 30k. I would like to do solo travel and definitely could not do it on their budget.
@@olddouchebag i also travel more then my husband as our schedules are different. Each marriage set up their own rules.
And people wonder why i am not married ....
Wow! Serious work behind the scenes and many hours accounting to compile these 35’ of video. While most of us loyal subscribers may not express it frequently enough please know that your valuable content is much appreciated.
I envy how your meticulous research allows you both to travel to so many great destinations at just a fraction of what most of us experience. That takes a lot of discipline, so kudos to you and we look forward to your 2024 adventures. Cheers, Brian & Carrie! 🍻
Thank you, Raul. This video did take a few hours (days 😃) to put together! We appreciate that you noticed. We also thank you for watching, commenting, and supporting the channel. We couldn't do this without you!!
Cheers!! 🍻
Second that! We truly appreciate the content you bring to us and enjoy how you present it. Cheers!
Absolutely enjoyed the video and lots of appreciations. Brian and Carrie are the best !
Thank you!!
Great video, super informative and valuable content! I watch several travel you tubers and this video is one of the best in regard to actual helpful/real world travel budgeting and provides real motivation to get out and explore the world like you guys! Thank you so much!!!
Your costs are spot on with mine. I'm a 63 year old solo traveler, who's travels have been close to identical with yours. In the last two years, I have spent 8 months in Medellin, Colombia, 8 months in Mexico, 5 months in Europe, starting in Amsterdam and ending in Istanbul, a month in Morocco, a month in Thailand, and I have now settled in Da Nang for six months. My favorite cities in that time are Istanbul, Prague, Chiang Mai, Mexico City, and Medellin. And I couldn't agree more about Penang. I was there in the coolest part of the year, and I though I would melt into the pavement. I've been traveling for eight years now. What a wonderful life! Thanks for the reaffirmation, and safe travels!
Da Nang is a great spot to stop for six months!! We have not been to Medellin or Mexico City although Mexico City may be in our near future. Life is good! Thank you for watching and commenting!!
Cheers!🍻
How are you liking Da Nang? I would love travel to Dalat. Have you been?
@@Genx1967er I love Da Nẵng, but I’m also here during the best weather. I was in Dalat for a week before I arrived in Da Nẵng and I loved it there as well. What a beautiful place! Weather is always a consideration for me, so I tend to move around accordingly. I’m going to Hanoi for a few weeks in April, which is one of the best weather months there.
@Genx1967er I went for a few days it's a bit remote and more a vegetable growing area. Lovely people though.
Hi Bob, what is your budget figure each year?
Thank you so much! Wonderful piece.
Lots of helpful information, once again. Thanks for sharing!
So much great info. Since my great-grandparents came from the Barri area to the US, I'm very envious you made it over there...even before I have!!
I just stumbled on your channel, and I am so glad I did! I am an avid traveler (only 25 countries), and will be retiring in the next few years and plan on spending about half the year traveling solo until I can't any longer. I love the breakdown of costs, along with the context and your commentaries. Most of your locations I've either been to or on my list, so it's great watching your adventures! Regarding the luggage issue- it happens. You have to roll with it, and accept it as part of the "adventure". My best stories are not when everything went perfect, and in the end it is the experiences good and bad that you can look back and smile about. Keep up the good work!
We are glad that you found our channel as well! And you are right, the best stories we have are the ones when things didn't go so well. Thank you for watching and commenting!! We appreciate the support! Safe travels.
Cheers! 🍻
Such great info!! Thank you so much for sharing all the details. Has me dreaming big time!!

We are looking forward to starting our own slow travel journey in a few years when our son is done with school, so your experience is an amazing source of inspiration for us. Hope to meet you at one of our destinations in the near future.

Congrats on a great year at a great price! There are always going to be unexpected costs, and things that come up, but I think you did a great job last year, and am looking forward to what you do this coming year. We are now under 6 months from starting our adventure, and we are continuing to enjoy seeing where you are going and deciding if/when we are going there.
Six months will fly by in no time!! 😀 Thank you for watching, Eric!
Cheers!!🍻
Thank you so much for this! It is quite helpful.
I'm just four and a half months into my travels, but you have inspired me to work even harder at keeping costs low. I am sticking within my budget, but I see through your experiences that I can do even better!
Have fun out there!
You're very welcome! It takes a while to get your budget figured out where you want to spend more and where you're willing to cut. You're still quite new to it, so it will come with time. Cheers!!
Nice breakdown, these cost videos are among my favorites of your work, keep up the good work and happy travels!!!
Thank you 😊. Happy you find the info helpful. Cheers!!
Just a note to say how much we enjoy your channel, and in particular, this well presented and detailed video.

Great Summary and Congratulations on accomplishing a ton of fun for a year for $34K. That's an astonishing travel entertainment for the amount spent. Besides you guys enjoying the time, you brought free enjoyment to our living room. Sincere Thanks to you both, and looking forward to the 2024 series. Cheers!
Thank you so much for watching and following along - we appreciate your continued support! We feel we did so much in 2023, but look so forward to what is to come in 2024 as well. Cheers!!

Glad it was helpful and thank you for watching!
Cheers!
Awesome video…so inspiring, THANK YOU!!
Thank you for watching, Brian!!
Cheers! 🍻
I'm so impressed with both of you, thats a fantastic budgeting. we spent more than double that for 2023 due to fast travel and going to expensive destinations, one of which is Antarctica, Easter Island, Patagonia, Jordan and Ushuaia. We are hoping to emulate your budgeting this year. You both are inspirational.
Thanks! Yes, sounds like you had some expensive itinerary locations on your list. Those are hard to stay to budgeted on.. But they are all on our list. Cheers!!
Great video. I'm new to your channel and look forward to binge watching your channel and following your future trips.
Thank you so much! We're so happy you found our channel 😊. Cheers!!

Great video! I’m currently rewatching all of your Southeast Asia ones, because we’re going to Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam next month! Brian, I love the hoodie!! Carrie, your hair looks fantastic! Super cute! I always enjoy your down to earth videos especially these with the cost breakdown! Keep em coming! #goals 😊

Thank you for watching, Kiki and Jeffrey!!! 😀
Thanks heaps Brian and Carrie! We’re slow travellers too so we really appreciate your sharing of your experience and the costs of course. We’re heading for South America for a year or two and will probably do Europe/central Asia after that. Safe travels! With love, Ken
You're very welcome! We look forward to making it to South America - Safe travels! Cheers 🍻
Thanks for the year end breakdown!
Thank you for always watching and commenting!!

Great video! Thank you.

This is very helpful for us folks who are considering doing the same thing. What a life you two have made together! We look forward to following you around the world this year!
We feel very fortunate to be doing what we are doing and don't take one day for granted. Thanks so much for watching and following along 😊
Just stumbled on your channel, love what your doing and thank you for all the incredible info! I can’t believe that’s all you spent for a year of travel, heck I spent that on one 7 night cruise for my family of 7 lol!
We went on a cruise last summer for my parent's 60th wedding anniversary. There were 12 of us and they paid for everything but the drink package! I never got the final cost!! 😬
Hey guys thank you so much for the numbers. Love you!
You're very welcome - thanks so much for watching! Cheers ☺
Great break down. Enjoyed this video. Considering more travel, just figuring out what it looks like for us.
Thank you for watching, Lisa!
This is very cost effective and was great to follow you across the world , there is a few places that we will travel to because of your utube... Alain
That's great to hear - there are so many wonderful places to visit, and the list seems to keep getting longer for us ☺. Thanks so much for watching - Cheers!!
So delighted to revisit your journey this way and to hear your expenses laid out like this. We’ve seen other videos that make it seem we couldn’t travel for less than $60,000 annually on a strict budget (we’ve planned on $48,000 per year, but were hoping to spend less than that if possible). You’ve given us hope again-thank you so much!
Spending a few months in SE Asia is a really good way to keep costs down. You can definitely do it for less than $48,000. Thank you for watching!!
Cheers!!🍻
I'm thrilled to have discovered your channel. The detail and helpfulness in your videos are exceptional. While I follow many bloggers in your field, seeing your work come to life through video is really fun. Thank you for sharing your journey. I can't wait to see all the upcoming adventures. Cheers! 🍻
So happy you found our channel ☺. We are so excited for 2024 and all it brings. Cheers!!
Super Informative Video

This is my first time watching you guys. I subscribed before the video even ended. I enjoyed it that much! I plan on replicating your travel itinerary. Thanks!
Thank you so much, Tammy! We are happy to have you apart of our community! ❤
Excellent and very informative video. Thanks for taking the time and sharing. I’m planning my annual 3 months overseas trip and you have given me a great road map. You guys are great. I recently joined your channel and it was a great decision. I now on my way to explore your other videos. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for joining the channel!! We are happy to have you aboard!! 😃
Tremendous video guys. When you head back to Antalya, I'd recommend considering Alanya. Just out of town and much more budget friendly!
Thanks for the tips! We will be check into that - Thanks for watching ☺
Great video Carrie your hair looks Fantastic!

Hi fellow Washingtonians, we started watching you in Thailand just after we got back from Thailand. We did Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket. Loved it! We're going back next week and going to spend more time in Bangkok and to Koh Samui. Love your content and are looking to do some long term traveling as well. Thanks for taking us with you on your travels!

Very helpful thank you!
Thank you for watching!!

WOW!!! THIS WAS EPIC!! ❤
Thank you for watching, Frank!
Cheers!!🍻
Interesting video, finance is my favorite hobby and I enjoyed that aspect. That said, I've done limited traveling abroad, never in Asia or Australia, but I find it exhausting! I'm "only" 63 and in great shape, but after 10 days, I'm ready to get home. I try to speak the native languages (French and Spanish only), but that feels like work after a while as well. Seems I'm alone in this perspective, but good for you for traveling so efficiently!
You are definitely not alone on this! It does become work and can be exhausting. We move one month at a time and fly as little as possible. We have also learned that speaking a new language, even a little bit, isn't necessary. Polite yes, but most of the world now knows English as a second language. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Cheers!!🍻
Such an inspiration for me. My full time travel solo starts in Nov and this information really does help with planning. Can you consider doing a video of all of the accommodations for the year, how you booked it and cost. It’s hard to know what to avoid and look for when booking places. You’re really great at it.
Hi, Valorie. We did an Airbnb video not too long ago that may help you. We do not get any sponsorship or commissions from Airbnb we just like the platform. Just FYI. Thank you for watching!! ❤
Yes I would like to know more on how you even find great flights and calculate that together with where to go and keep going. Or is is one step at a time cost/destination calculation?
@@BrianandCarrie you are so great at doing this, thanks for all your hard work.
I just sold my hotel, owner for 38 years. it kept me busy, 24/7/365 , I went for months without without a single day off, years without a vacation, I was heavly leveraged. It was very difficult to make ends meet, unfortanlly, I was always well qualifed for bankrupcy but too stubborn to quit or give up, like a hoteler we all know named donald trump that went bankrupt many times and defaulted on paying many debts,, a man without integurity.
For 38 years I enjoyed the guests from all over the world that paid to come and visit me, lol.
I did not feel the need for travel since I had traveled extensivally as an aviator for 13 years before buying the hotel. So, I was lucky to be paid well and the airlines paid for most of the travel expenses. And on the wild side I was invlolved in most of the US conflicts and wars for 13 years. My travel mileage was equal to about 200 times around the world, more than most astronauts. Now I am 85 years old and findally retired.
Now, I am bored and want to travel again,,, but realize that I will hafto pay, todays prices, wow! sticker shock.
Thanks. Love your videos.
Glad you like them! Thanks so much for watching - Cheers!!
Thank you for your reply Brian and you referred me to this video. Which I have already watched, I remember now. I actually enjoyed this video precisely because of the flight costs incurred included! Thank you. I am kindly suggesting that when flight costs breakdown being included in every video really makes the content truly helpful and complete. Does that make sense? So for every destination, it makes it more realistic and discernible what a particular dream destination in real dollars/money. This is an added value strength for the viewers, and I think worth considering to always add to every video. Many vloggers fail to do this. Make it an added strength to yours. More power to you guys. You are such an adorable couple. Thank you for sharing with us what you know.
We only fly a couple of times a year so including flight costs on every video wouldn't make sense. People are also flying from different areas around the world so our costs may differ from someone else's.
This is great! Thanks
You're very welcome 😁
Great video guys.
Thank you, Elizabeth! ❤
Love your videos.
You are in our top two channels to watch ( we also love other retired full time travellers, such as 2GoRoam).
Thanks for sharing your costs.
We know of 2GoRoam, they are fun to watch! Thank you for watching, our channel too, Brian! We appreciate your support.
Cheers!!🍻
You guys are such an inspiration💥
Thanks so much for watching 😊
You two are doing a great job of convincing the humans of our crew be more adventurous in their choice of places!
Looking forward to seeing your plans for 2024. If we’re ever in the same place, we’ll buy you a beer. 🍺
That's great to hear, so many exciting places out there to explore. Let us know if we cross paths - always love to meet up and share travel stories. Cheers!!
I enjoyed watching your videos. Thank you.
When I retired ten years ago at age 58, I thought about doing some monthly rentals at various places along the US Gulf Coast.
But life happens. In 2017 our daughter and her family moved to central PA from CO. We would do month long trips twice a year to be with them, and we ended up buying a second house there a couple of years ago - and our son bought a house there, too. We will be selling our CO home this Spring and moving to PA full time.
We enjoy traveling the world on cruise ships - generally Princess, but as I’m knocking on 70 years old, full time international travel has passed us by. We’ve visited many of the places you traveled to in 2023 during the past several years - but I can honestly say I always enjoy getting back to our ship’s cabin, having a white tablecloth dinner, and seeing a fantastic show. It does come with a higher cost - but how else can you see the world if the wife is scared to fly?
Yes, cruising is a great way for many to see the world. It's cost effective and great for those with a fear of flying. Thanks so much for watching 😊. Cheers!!
Your videos fascinate me. I don’t think I have the courage to sell all and do what you do. I wish I did though.
Your channel has quickly become one of my favorites. Cheers (with a margarita)!
Thank you, Rosemary! We love margaritas and maybe indulging in a few in the coming year!
Cheers!!🍻
Great video.
Thanks so much 😊
Great Video
Thanks so much for watching 😊
Just watched the end of this video and the total cost blew me away, and I mean that in a good way!
To my wife and I that seems very reasonable and then of course shopping around getting a little bit more Less expensive accommodations of course would bring that down but... And of course where you travelled.
I am 66 and in good health I exercise a lot my wife is or rather will be 59 in August and we really really like the idea of slow travel. I am more of the cranky butt when I feel rushed and my wife does not like that so we can appreciate the slow travel for sure. Like I said earlier in another one of your videos I just subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to watching all your videos. We were going to start in January possibly I found a repositioning cruise from Seattle to Tokyo a 16 day cruise for both of us $1600 And then we were thinking of then flying to okinawa and staying there for possibly a month and then back to Vietnam and then after a stay there then either find another repositioning cruise back to Seattle if that's not available then we will fly back to Seattle. This will be our testing waters if you will... My wife is very nervous And we will see what happens.❤
Thanks!!
This is a cruise that we are looking at as well, Bill! We will be doing it in reverse order ending it Seattle. We are from Bellingham so close to home. We very much appreciate your comments on the channel and being a part of the community here!! Thank you!!
Cheers!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie You bet! We are slowly downsizing and getting rid of a lot of stuff. Not sure if we'll sell the home yet but it is in the works.
We live in Southern Idaho Outside of Twin Falls.
I know you two are very busy and I really appreciate you getting back to us!❤
Great breakdown. We are probably gonna copy your whole Thailand / Vietnam itinerary :).
It was a great itinerary, we loved all the places in Thailand and Vietnam we visited. Cheers!!
Love this channel
Thanks so much for watching!
That knife sharpner tip is the best***** thank you 😊 🙏
Glad you like that one...we used it at every stop 😊
just discovered your channel and im loving it!! I grew up in Washington and went to college at WWU :-)
WWU is a beautiful campus. Bellingham will always be our home no matter where we are in the world. Thank you for watching! We are happy that you found our channel! 😀
So happy you found us - Bellingham is such a great place and Western has a beautiful campus. Thanks for watching - Cheers!!
This was such an interesting & very eye opening video!!!! I had found your channel just last week, the first video I watched was the downsizing & decluttering which was also very interesting!! My hubby & I watched this budget video & we now see that it is actually cheaper than what we had thought. Don’t know that we will be exact full time travellers but definately can see that it will be totally possible to do some travelling to different areas when the time comes:) I think within two years we will hopefully sell our home & downsize. I really loved seeing the cost breakdown especially per day. We are Canadian but even with the exchange rate it is still totally doable!! I have a lot of videos still to watch but this one is fantastic!!!
Thank you, Kathy. We very much appreciate the support!! ❤
I totally want to do this. I would love to travel full time. Maybe someday I can. Thanks for the information!!
Thank you for watching!!
I think you did an AMAZING job, of course with the travel, but also the documentation and presentation. This sounds very real, and as you point out, you could have spent less by staying a year in southeast Asia. I'm in!
Thank you so much ♥. Yes, SE Asia is a great place to keep the costs down. Cheers!!
You make such informative videos, you should do one on house sitting: what site was used or was it word of mouth? How did you chose the houses? How it went, etc. I'm sure with Carrie editing, the video will be very thorough!!
We are planning to have a video out next month about our experience house-sitting and what website we use. Hopefully many find that helpful. Cheers!!
Thanks for sharing. As always very informative specially since we are planning on a similar yearly budget perhaps even a little lower however we don’t like beers 😅. I know you mentioned there was going to be a logistic video coming up, looking forward to that one as we are interested to learn more about the Schengen zone and going in and out of it. I also believe it will be interesting to know more about airport experiences and going to and from to them etc. Thanks again!
We will be doing the logistics video sometime next month. A lot of planning is going into that one. 😃 Thanks you two for watching!
No Beers Cheers!!😀
Thank you so much for being so transparent! I am looking to sell everything this year and travel. It makes me feel good to know that long-stay travel is in my budget. I think, your expectations on accommodation are similar to mine, but it’s nice to know that I could splurge if needed on a short term stay and not break my bank. (I truly thought your European adventure was going to higher.) I am looking forward to your video on how to setup phones and preparing for this type of lifestyle. I know that you got a different insurance plan to cover the states and I’m wondering how you have liked it… so maybe you can cover that and another packing video. You have both convinced me to downsize my luggage… so I have purchased new carry on luggage that meets budget airlines requirements overseas. Can’t thank you enough for making your videos! They are helping me make informed decisions.
Very interesting video. Thanks for all of the information.
So happy you have found the information we've shared helpful for your upcoming travels. We will have our logistics video out hopefully in the next month. We appreciate you watching and following along. Cheers!!
Great video guys, thank you. My partner and I are going to travel full time throughout SEA only from August next year and our budget is $1K AUD per week or $34K USD for the year so we are confident we can do it, thanks again for all your great information, much appreciated, stay safe and happy travels 👍
Thank you! Yes, if staying in SE Asia, that budget should be completely comfortable. Thanks for watching - Cheers!
I really enjoy your content and appreciate your style of slower travel. My wife and I did a wonderful ten month trip around the world in 2016-2017 and visited many of the places you mentioned. We were in Chang Mai for a month and found it much busier than we expected, but I agree with you that Da Nang/Hoi An, Krakow and Turkey are incredible places to stay longer-term. I also recommend Romania, Laos and Sri Lanka as amazing and inexpensive destinations. Thanks for your interesting videos and I look forward to your new adventures in 2024! As an aside, if you think air travel in the US is expensive, try Canada 🙄
We would agree with Romania. Love that country! Brosav is one place that we could stay long term for sure. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Cheers!!🍻
Another great video. Meaningless editorial comment: Brian you are Chip Gaines (who I really like BTW) -- the comedic relief of the group. Carrie is Johanna Gaines -- the brains of the operation. Keep up the great work!
Haha, that's a good comparison ☺. We have to keep everyone interested, informed and entertained all at the same time. Cheers!
You did amazing 🤩
Thank you!! Cheer 🍻
