I tried to build my own real life house. The hardest part was to find th right size

Mine was doing a split level. Basement is part upstairs bc it has windows but that then threw everything else off with the stairs (7 down 8 up then 8 up again)
I gave up on mine, it’s this weird split level on a hill and I have no idea how to use terrain tools in that way
I can't do mine because my room is part-cut by the roof which is asymetric so impossible :(
As someone who has been in school for interior design for years now, I can confidently say that simsie is a very talented builder, and she absolutely needs to stop being so critical/harsh on herself. Even if she does believe she's a bad builder, it isn't healthy to constantly criticize yourself the way she does. The way you think about yourself is a self fulfilling prophecy, so since she's constantly being extremely harsh/mean to herself, of course she is going to truly believe she is bad at what she does. However, she should start saying positive comments about her builds (and herself), even if they are completely sarcastic or superficial, because if you tell yourself something often enough and long enough, you'll start to truly believe it. Lilsimsie is a talented girl and she needs to work to retrain her brain into believing positive things about herself and her talents.

Ok, here's some help for translating "real life" to Sims scaling:
-Most interior doors, halls, and staircases are about 30"-36" wide.
-Bathrooms are usually 5-6 feet deep by 9-10 feet wide.
-Bedrooms are usually 10-12 feet across.
-Appliances are also 30-36" wide, and counters about 24" deep.
SO, to match Sims scaling, treat each square as about 2.5-3 feet! :)
I think what makes it so hard for you is that floorplans are opposite what you do. Usually, you make the outside "shell", and then figure out how to fit the rooms inside. (I cannot do this, and have always admired that you can make the shell first!) Where with floorplans, you have to ignore the outside until the end, and make all the rooms work together like puzzle pieces. Again, use stairs, doors, halls, tubs, and appliances for help with scale. Treat each square in the Sims as 2.5-3 feet approximately. Floorplans will be MUCH easier like that. :)
Then, you can focus on widow scales and making it look good from the outside.
I've ALWAYS followed floorplans (building since Sims 2), and have learned the tricks of using these clues for scaling. It's never failed me!! Also, best floorplans are Victorian and Craftsman, and they're less boring as just a box :P

I see houses like this a lot from my area of America, typically on farms rather than in neighborhoods, unless you go to the historic towns (which I LOVE). Then they’re fairly common

Whenever I recreate a floor plan I always base it off the furniture that we have in the sims and then estimate how many tiles long the walls should be It is super complicated but it works .

I do the same thing, like if there's closet space I always use the ones from Get Together so that particular space is 2 tiles etc... Makes builds take forever but it works out.

not as much trying to copy a floor plan as trying to get the measurements down correctly whit tools that are no wear near accurate enough.

I thought of a build challenge, it's kinda tedious but basically you would build normally but everytime you touch (aka move the furniture) you have to change to the next swatch, I think it would make for a hilarious looking house as it would also be a no mistake kinda thing were you can only change the swatch when you move it and you have to start on the first swatch of every item

Yeah man, blaming someone for their low self-worth isn’t gonna make them have a better outlook on themselves (quite the opposite actually) 😅😅😅. In fact, as someone with a very low self worth myself and crippling perfectionism (hell’s worst combo lmao) lemme tell you that we are PAINFULLY aware how annoying other people think it is when we say bad things about ourselves or apologise for the fiftieth time for something we aren’t even to blame for in the first place. We just can’t help see all that is wrong with us, overthink it and panic about it.

I think this house has an average amount of storage. I find it disappointing if there isn't a closet for each bedroom and one for coats/cleaning supplies.

Yeah, swede over here, and I would say it's rare for a house to have the laundry room sperate from the bathroom. Apartment buildings often have one shared laundry room in the basement but I'm not sure how common that is across Europe

I’ve found that the easiest way to translate a real floor plan to a sims build is by basing the wall lengths on the windows. That tends to keep the scale pretty similar for me! ❤️

@@AP-pv6vk When doing measurements for these, use the doors/windows/stairs as refference-points since these usually fit 1(wall)-wide in the sims4. just mesure how many doors go along the wall.
In this one the door would be a 2-wide-single-door, the outside stairs 2-wide and inside stair 1-wide...
Then use that to measure the rest^^

People have been commenting about this for ages now. I THINK she's seen it by now pal. She can say whatever she wants - it's her channel. It's not harming anyone, so her subscribers have no right to tell her what to do and not. She's not saying she is a worthless waste of space - she's mocking her video game build creations. I can't believe everyone has such strong feelings about it, and being disrespectful about it. On some videos she's mainly getting negative feedback and inappropriate "I hope she's ok" comments. She probably knows you're all coming from a good place, or at least neutral, but cut her some slack. You can literally watch her videos for free.

I don't know, I think it looks kinda cute! Farmhouse style, adorable from the front. If you changed the items/furnishing to be more Sims-friendly, and got rid of the useless closets, I think it would be great! Just not interesting from all angles on the outside lol

I was thinking the same thing. I LIKE building, but I'm quite bad at it. No real 'sense' of where stuff should go. :P I did actually like this house. Yes, it needed some tweaking to make it 'fit' better in the Sims. . .but it wasn't bad. (And yes, the furniture layout was a bit silly. But I don't think floorplans are really laid out with decorating in mind.) But with a few tweaks, and setting the furniture different and some better landscaping. . .sure!

This is actually one of my favorite houses she has built. I could be wrong, but Kayla has a style that she tends to stick to when it comes to building houses (how she sets up the outside, and how she layouts the floor plan.). She may have gotten used to it so when she strays from her norm, it looks off to her, when in actuality it looks like a normal house you would see in real life and doesn’t even look bad in the game.

Although sims scale IS off, those floorplans usually use smaller furniture blocks to make the houses look bigger. There is no way those proportions are correct.

When I (attempt to) follow a floor plan like this I try to count the “tiles” on the floor plan. I know in game a counter takes up one tile, so I would count each counter as 1 tile. I do the same with doors and windows and try to size it that way. Sometimes it works, sometimes it needs adjustments, but it’s easier than just trying to guess/eyeball it.

All I ever build is from floorplans because I feel like I'm so bad at building, but you've inspired me to start making my own original floorplans. Like I've built my first suburban (yes, blue) with a wrap around porch and a pond. It looks kinda fugly to me, but I'm kinda proud of it!

I used to follow a lot of floor plans for Sims 2 builds. I just built for function, not for looks, so I just did auto roof. For scale, 2 feet works well to scale to one (big Sims 2) square, so in Sims 4, one little square would be 1 ft. I would skip closets to have more usable space. Keep bathrooms small, again for more usable space. Master closets in larger homes could be baby bedrooms. For Sims 2 specifically, garages were a good place for a home business, and in larger floor plans, the formal dining room is a good place for homework desks.
I just recently got Sims 4 thanks to Cottage Living, so time to start trying to build again.
Ratsley, in Kayla's 100 baby challenge, is kinda like scabbers. Kayla complains about how stupid it is, but when it dies she's completely devestated. Like Ron in the prisoner of Azkaban

I made this floor plan in TS3 years ago and it was so hard but worth it in the end, I counted by grid when I made the size as I do for all house plans I make but I can't remember how big it was and I don't have that save file anymore. I think this turned out pretty good and you have more options in TS4 like the rounded counters and roofs are much easier in TS4 too. For the indoor stairs I had 2 tiles between laundry and stairs rather than the narrow 1 tile corridor. 👍👌
I’ve just realised something... Maybe the sims starter homes are build with the same concept as this floor plan. It’s supposed to indicate different rooms but also is a blank space. I actually used a couple of similar floor plans, different but similar styles, to build a couple new mansions in Del Sol Valley for the Bailey-Moon family and my personal get famous SIM. They were a challenge but turned out really nicely. I did take a few liberties on the floorplans and what nots, but I was really happy with how they turned out when I finally finished them. You're absolutely right though. Real houses do look very odd when you try to build them in the SIMs. No idea why.

When I try and build from a real life floor plan, I consider the furniture and how it’s layed out in the floor plan by assuming that a bed is 1x3, counter top is a 1x1, sofa is a 1x2, and a couch a 1x3. I then draw it out on dotted paper using the ‘furniture’ as guides for how big it should be (like bullet journal paper) and then I make it in the sims. It takes a lot of the frustration out of around trying to make it to scale for in the sims 4 lol
You should really try getting a camera that can record you at 60 fps because the lips and audio are out of sync
I challenge you to build a dutch house (www.funda.nl or .com), because it's really different then the american houses

Honestly I LOVE this house because it’s...normal? I love builds based off real life lived in houses because for me it increases immersion. And like, I love the way it’s decorated because it looks totally realistic. Everyone’s house is weird irl.

Honestly, as an interior designer, she did great with this building and even tho the actual furniture is horrible she made it look nice and cozy. And the outside was pretty too.
I know she mostly builds houses, but if she’s looking for a challenge, Kayla should find a floor plan of a church and try to recreate that
i've tried this floor plan challenge a few times, and a method i found to sort of guide me and make things easier (at least slightly) is to make it at/around about half-scale.
for example: if a room is 14 ft by 12 ft, i make it a 7x6 room. if a room is 9 ft by 13 feet, i cut each number in half, then round it up, making it a 5x7 room. or, if they're really specific (down to the inch), i round up or down accordingly (if the amount of inches is closer to a foot, i round up. if it's farther, i round down.)
i'm not an expert at all, but as a perfectionist (or maybe it's just my perpetual fear of failure), i try to make things easier for myself when and where i can. i hope that this tip helps?? even if kayla never sees this comment, i don't mind sharing what helps

I usually print the floor plan out, then build tiles relative to the doors and windows; for example: front foor is usually 2 tiles, window is usually 1 tile, and so on.

My boyfriend and i are currently looking at apartments, and let me tell you something about too much storage. there were these studio apartments we were looking at that had anywhere from four to up to SIX closets. Three of them were on the same wall!! We were joking around that we could each have a desk in a closet, but then when looking at the floor plan we realized we would literally HAVE to do that because they wasted so much room on closets.
