      Do you mind sharing your spool setup? Do you have it attached to the printer somehow with a holder? I printed one from thingiverse and it didn't work well at all.

    • @ruiraptor
      @ruiraptor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greetings Jovin. I didnt build any spool holder yet. I'm using a couple of pushup bars and a rod to hold the spool while printing. When i need to move or storage the printer i place the spool over the base next to the power supply (as seen in the video).

    Hi, thanks for all your tutorials and video's. question about the XY_Squareness_corner_for_Tevo_Tarantula_3D_Printer why standing up and not laying down. now it has to print the hangover part in the air. i printed 1, and it come out with a lot of hairs undermeath. if it lays down building up easier ? can i put the model down in Repetier Host??
    i'm just bust with 3D for 2 weeks, so go easy

      Hi, You should rotate the model to print flat on the surface. It is standing because the modeling program mixed up the coordinates.

      @@ruiraptor yes i discovered the rotating button. thanks. other Questing. is there a standard guide to follow how te setup, i mean how mucht infill etc? i really don't know where to begin. i look by the model downloads for setting advise but don't see

    What is the size of the board used on this? Also any info on the rubber feet? Great videos

    • @ruiraptor

      Greetings Keith,
      The board is 580mm x 530mm x 10mm.
      Regarding the rubber feed, i bought them in a local store. You can search, for example, on ebay for "instrument cabin rubber feet".

    Do you have a list of the nuts and blots that you use not just in this video but in all of your videos just so I can get a hole heap of them so when I get my printer I can hit the ground running with making upgrades ect.

    • @ruiraptor
      @ruiraptor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greetings Robert,
      You will need several 5mm flat washers and M5 lock nuts for the carriages.
      You will also need some screws and Tnuts for the brackets. These are a little tricky because Tevo uses M4 Tnuts and M4x8 screws but I could not find the same M4 tnuts (normal M4 tnuts don’t fit in the profile)…so I used M3 Tnuts from ebay and M3x8 screws.
      I think that these cover all the upgrades except for securing the printer to the base. For that you need some screws for wood. The length will depend on how thick your wooden base will be. At first I had a 10mm thick sheet but now I moved to a 16mm thick sheet. For this I also recommend you to use washers between the screws and brackets to increase the contact surface and therefore be able to apply more torque.
      Regards
      Rui

    Hi, thanks for all your greats videos, they are very helpfull when you get a tarantula kit as your first 3D printer.
    I d'like to have your opignon on an uprgrade of a second Z axis, does it improve a lot the printing quality ?

    • @ruiraptor
      @ruiraptor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greetings Koyote Bob,
      thank you for your comment. Regarding the second Z axis, the main purpose of that is because with only one leadscrew on the side, the X bar tends to loose level regarding the bed causing some issues like z banging, bed unlevel, etc. You can still print pretty good with the stock hardware. That upgrade usually requires x1 extra stepper motor, leadscrew and coupling. One of my future experiments is to use x2 rails for Z axis and only one leadscrew and stepper motor. The two rails will prevent shiffting/unleveling of the X bar and i believe that 1 stepper will be enough. But that is my theory...i will need to install and test.
      Regards

    After all the upgrades how much of the printer is still original?? Lol. I'm trying to pick upgrades that won't cost a lot but will make a difference or I can go all out and upgrade the whole thing and keep the left over parts to make another printer.🤔

    • @ruiraptor
      @ruiraptor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Robert,
      That’s a good question,
      My printer is not far off the original one. I see pictures of other users that have changed so much that it’s not a tarantula anymore :)
      If you look at it, the most things you see are printed parts like brackets, fanduct, display mount and enclosure, etc.
      About mechanical parts I have the acrylic parts replaced with carbon, dual Z motor and Y rail.
      Some of my upgrades are a must and some of them are recommendations.
      The ones that, for me, are a must are:
      Mechanical:
      Y rail
      Bed support ( I recommend carbon but aluminum will work )
      Printed parts:
      Fanduct
      Brackets
      Oldham coupler or dual Z nut
      I also recommend to secure the printer on a wooden base to increase stability
      I also have a video that explains how to correctly do the electric connections with ferrules. For that one it should be a must from the start and not as an improvement.
      Regards

      ruiraptor thanks for taking the time to reply I have run out of pla and I'm not game to print with abs until I replace the wires of the heat bed to a bigger gage as they got really hot when I tested it for the first time.but I'll be printing the brackets ect when I get more. Did you print the bed support in carbon or did you buy it?

    • @ruiraptor
      @ruiraptor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you get hot wires then you must check your connections asap. If you have issues with your connections (at the green connectors or even at the power supply) the contact resistance will increase and you can have serious problems. I recommend you see my video "How to improve your printer - part 3" and follow my advice about using ferrules. If you are already using them, then you need to check if everything is secure and tight.

    Hi Rui,
    Where can I find the thingiverse design for the orange corner bracket? All the brackets I can find have a base plate, while the one you use in the video (2:35) does not have a base plate below the aluminium frame. I don't think you can use one with a base plate as the frame will then have an offset from the ground. Thanks, Paul

    • @ruiraptor
      @ruiraptor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul,
      That orange bracket is the same you have. Mine i had to cut both bracket's bottom ( left and right ).
      I also prefer to have the printer without that offset and that is why i cut it. The only issue is that the holes for the horizontal 2040 profile don't match and therefore i designed the triangle ones for the center.
      I'm designing new ones without the bottom and will be ready soon. Keep an eye on my thingiverse collection.
      Regards

    Why doesn't the company who make this printer just add those crucial upgrades in the dyi parts list? Cheep parts you would think that they would WANT people to be successful with their product, when i did my research for a GOOD cheap printer i some how missed the videos and others who say it is not a good first dyi printer with many problems, OH how i wish i had found those videos BEFORE i bought this one, Also i bought from Gearbest and their video on this printer does NOT attest to the ACTUAL printer, They show it partially assembled and all ladeeda!,
    I would not have purchased this one and feel Gearbest misrepresented this printer on their website, , I will receive it soon, As a girl do it self-er i will put in for my reviews, Or may be not, As it looks like i will be upgrading and putting it together Foreevvvver,
