We're not dead yet, Nostalgia Avenue. Many people still decorate with many of these "lost" Christmas decorations. And yes, we still say Merry Christmas.

It must take a long time to put up that many trees.
But I bet it's worth it. I know they are so beautiful. It would be awesome to see all the beautiful ornaments you have collected.
What a wonderful thing to collect.
I wish you lived close enough , I would love to see all the beautiful trees and ornaments. ❤😊

@Badkittys4 • I have around 2½ thousand glass or sometimes plastic ornaments and put up 6 trees, but I've only been collecting since the 1970s. A handful of my glass ones belonged to my mother and a few to my grandmother. I treasure these and take great care with them and of them. Both these ladies died over 60years ago.

I am a Civil War Re-enactor. One year I went to Fort Clinch for the Thanksgiving/Christmas weekend. We had a tree with real candles (and someone stationed next to it with a spray bottle in case it caught fire) homemade Christmas ornaments (I've made them too, and would not part with the six I have) a Thanksgiving meal with all the 1860's trimmings, and a table that groaned with desserts. Wonderful, period experience

In Denmark (and I'm presuming Norway and Sweden as well), real candles are still used by many. As long as you position them carefully, this doesn't have to be a fire hazard.
Tinsel garlands are also still used, though I've yet to find them longer than 3ft.

I use many of the “lost” items you mentioned. Truth be told many folks (many of them younger) are just lazy and have little regard for older ornaments, traditions, and Holiday crafts. Many decorations are also taken down well before the 12 days of Christmas are even over.

That’s nuts! They’re missing out. It seems like that personality type shows up in their everyday life. Certain people are less joyous to be around, and value little of what really matters in life. Likely selfish and materialistic, too. Just tends to go together.

I guess I'm old fashion but I have over 250 GLASS icicles. The shortest is 5" the longest is 7". I have always purchased Kurt Adler but started finding them on Amazon for less. There are no plastic anything on my tree. My ornaments have gone through, myself, my children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren. My mom used angle hair on her trees back in the early 50's and those trees looked like they were glowing... It was fiberglass but they were stunning. Call me old fashion but bubble lights are amazing❄.

I love keeping the old traditions, and they’ll value you passing them down. I’m sure they already do. I also will not use anything plastic/acrylic, (to me technically also plastic). Except the covering on the wire of the lights, to be fully honest. There’s nothing like a room glowing with old-school decorations.
Old World Christmas is also great, and keeps the techniques and the class of the 1800’smglass ornaments. They’re mouth blown, with hot liquid silver lining that gives them the loveliest sheen, and hand painted, the slightest touch of well-glued, well-placed glitter, and worth a look, too.
I can buy right from the company, they’re a nice, personable company, to me, anyway. Amazon sellers don’t always include the boxes, when they can cut corners from ornament companies.
I like to give them the higher profit margin if I can, and the prices are the same, or less. A sale on Amazon is a sale on their site, and an Amazon seller may not pass in the sale price. Old World Christmas has very nominal shipping, might even have free shipping at a certain amount, (I buy them throughout the year and tuck them away for Christmas gifts, given early at tree-trimming time), and full size or miniature ornaments. They’re also heirloom. Might expand your options.
Anyway, I love to hear about traditions being passed down, and they’ll really treasure the decorations for generations to come. 😊💕🎄

I used to clean private homes with another lady and one of our clients had a unique set of ornaments. They were little globes with a scene inside them strung on an electrical wire. When they were plugged in, certain parts of the scenes would move. Haven't seen anything like that before or since.

    • @DawnM-g3d
      @DawnM-g3d 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Asbestus, so not a fire hazard but a health hazard. A lot of these Al generated things are simply wrong. Full of mistakes. Eg. Bubble lights went away by at least the seventies, because I remember trying to find them as a teen. No longer made. Safer versions did come out at some point about 20 years ago or so. They were not replaced by LED lights because no such thing existed back then.
We had asbestus drapes in our house as a child in the 60s. No angel hair. Mom did not like it. We did have tinsel, which I love, but I have cats, and it can kill them.
It isn't just things like this full of mistakes. If it is AL generated, no matter the subject chances are it is full of mistakes. Often totally wrong.

Bubble lights can still be purchased, I still do paper chains, this year out of old sheet music as well as some snowflakes from old sheet music & made small paper lanterns!. Instead of popcorn, I strung Styrofoam packing peanuts which kinda looks like popcorn from across the room & I can save till next Christmas!

    • @fightinfetus
      @fightinfetus 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

I’d love to see a box of the older ones, those are a treasure! You can still buy them from the Old World Christmas company. They are hand blown, with the hot liquid silver lining that gives them that beautiful sheen, hand painted, and the slightest touch of well-placed, well-glued glitter. They use the same techniques from the 1800’s. Full size and miniature.
And they’ve expanded beyond animals, to Christmas themes, religious themes, occupations, travel, everyday life, musical instruments, and so forth. I love them, and I buy them throughout the year and tuck them away to give as Christmas gifts at tree trimming time, so they can be appreciated. And of course, I build my own stash as well.
It’s nice to be able to get things that fit a person’s personality, occupation, interests, or some special things they’ve done throughout the year. Then they can have a collection, the commemorates their life moments.
You can buy them off Amazon, free shipping with prime, but I’d rather buy it from them, because the shipping is nominal, and I don’t know, but they might have free shipping at a certain purchase point.
But if I can give them the profit margin, I’d rather they get it than Amazon, because the prices are the same. In fact, a seller might not pass on a sale price that they have, and they don’t always send the cardboard, Old World Christmas box that each bubble or tissue wrapped ornament comes in with a little viewing window so you can see what’s what.

I still buy blown glass ornaments every year, and give them as gifts, too. They make far more than just animals, and Old World Christmas company is the best (no relation to them, no perks for saying so, I just love them!) I can order right from them. Though they can be found on the big A, not all sellers send them with the brand’s box, and the price is the same from the company, (shipping very nominal, may be free with a certain dollar amount), and I’d rather give them the higher profit margin. Easier to see exactly what they have, too, without other brands woven in. The filters don’t always work well, do they, on the big A?
(I get no perks for saying so, just sharing what makes them the best. They’re very well-received, heirloom quality ornaments, and glass, but not too fragile; not too thin, that is, a light tap won’t shatter them, but knocking over the tree, especially on a hard floor, might…Or might not).
They come in a green, company Christmas-themed cardboard gift box with clear plastic viewing window, (like a bakery cake box would) to see what’s what, with bubble wrap or tissue wrap to pack them away. I always check each one before gifting, and tell people it’s why the sealed edge is lifted and replaced. They’ve always been perfect, but I can also put them back in just so, to show the ornament for best presentation.
In fact, I just got a couple more for next year that arrived today, (5 days after Christmas). I buy them throughout the year, and tuck them away for Christmas presents. They’re best given early, around tree-trimming time, of course.
I can give relevant ones of some theme they love, (birds, cats, dogs, tigers, bears, stars, Christmas itself, little churches or religious theme, musical instruments, occupations, worldwide travel, everyday life items, etc., they have loads of variety). or to commemorate special things they’ve done, or special events over the year.
They can mark their lives with them, and they’re beautiful, with just the right, slight touch of well-glued glitter (no sloppy glue jobs) to highlight and catch the light, but mostly there’s just a soft, lovely sheen to them. I hang a few ornaments all year to cheer up a corner or window. They also sell miniature ones, better for smaller, tabletop trees. I suppose some smaller ones, dotted in among the others, could work for even greater variety, especially the big and small hearts, birds, etc.
**They have the very best hand-painting and overall quality, and are an older company than most today, not super old, since 1979, 45 years, but they ARE using the methods of the 1800’s. They’re still mouth-blown, lined with liquid silver, and hand-painted. (I had to look them up, to see what makes them so beautiful and better than the others).**
There are one or two other new brands than come in second, but they definitely come in second. They don’t have the sheen, which must come from the silver lining inside; nor as good a painting; nor the concise and minimal glitter placement, less quality control. Then there are just lousy ones. And a designer who overprices his.
So, it’s Old World Christmas for me. If I’m going to buy them, they’re going to be the best I can find, and can keep adding over the years, and they’ll look good together.
And I buy them for myself, also of course. Love ‘em!
    >>>And not one picture was shown here of actual Cornucopia Christmas Ornaments, Paper Snowflakes, or German feather trees, but people can look them up.
