The main problem with the wave is you get certain type of people who will paddle for just about every wave either creating a new section and closing out the wave ahead of you by about 15 feet, as you end up getting sucked over the falls and now you're making sand castles 2 feet under water! Way back when there was this guy, he was a monster, a solid 6'6" plus pushing 300lbs, but not fat, never smiled or talked to anyone but did stare at you a lot. This guy used to do exactly what I talked about above, paddle for every wave but only caught maybe 1 out of 5 that he paddled for which means he closed out 4 waves that were most likely being ridden with someone in the barrel who went over the falls and ended up trying to build a bigger and better sand castle than mine! For over a year this guy would do his thing with not a single person or group of people saying anything to him. I know he wasn't a local because at the time I was but the way someone got him to stop surfing was they followed him to his truck for the next time he showed up. About a week later there was a solid 4'-6' swell. Well, the big guy showed up late morning around 11:00AM it's still nice and glassy and barreling like crazy and since I was getting hungry I caught the next wave and went in to eat ;-) with a bunch of others that were also hungry ;-) about 10 others. After we all ate we trickled back out into the lineup and had a great 4-5 hours of Tube after Sand Castles, Chandeliers Right about the time we headed back to the beach the big guy was getting out and walking that mile to his truck. Low and behold his truck was gone. So the guys looking around and spots his truck upside down on the grass at Pershing Park next to the Softball field with a ton of notes proclaiming every thing from "stop Chandeliers, the rich need them back" and " this is how we feel when we get sucked over the falls" and "closeouts suck", plus many others that had a language of their own. If this guys truck was a nice truck whom ever did it would not of, but it was a 1976-79 Ford small truck that was a Mazda built for Ford. I heard it was in need of body work and paint with a complete interior overhaul. As it turned out the guy had a tow truck come and turn the truck back on it's wheels, couldn't get it started because all the fuel ended up on the grass, opps... :-0 so I guess he was towed somewhere to get gas and probably headed home right after. Didn't see the guy again but was questioned by the law a few days later, have no idea why they questioned me :-). No one that I know of went to jail. I heard these guys thought this was a better alternative than 11 guys kicking the hell out of him, but to tell you the truth we....they, were not certain that 11 of us......damn, them, would be enough!

Steve Wootten - So the first guy wasn't making his wave...trust me as a Bodysurfer, you a get a good feeling for that - or you feel a board entering - or passing you - from behind. He went deep (as you can) on the duck dive - and the guy on the board blew his barrel. Bodysurfers have equal rights. Try bodysurfing with a crowd of boards, sometime. Unless you a great waterman - you'll be getting in the way, and STILL not getting any waves.
El Cap is only one of the points that live there. Refugio, and other spots along the tracks are what live there. Good luck finding this gold. It is the Cape Saint Francis of California and this California wants you to attempt to find it!! Because this Californian already has!! Good Luck Barneys

Offshore winds, sand bottom, a right that could last for days, never too crowded unless a giant swell... that parking though!

Feels like somebody could have tried just talking with him first. Anyways easier than done I guess.

it's pretty hard to paddle. I remember a day as a kid where I literally was unable to paddle out. Regardless it is the best wave made by man.
the wave 5mn from my house.. i wish it was working more than 5 times a year........
Love it thank you for the nice video California is over run protect whats yours, over and out
Gotta love the body surfer who snakes 1 guy @ 1:15 and then manages to get in the way of another guy in the barre 20 seconds later....
