This was really interesting, that kind of filming became popular in things like 'The Office' or 'Peep Show' but I never realised it was already used in The Bill - way ahead of it's time in that respect!
I remember visiting that location sometime in the early 80’s, the old building stood, and the pub on the Corner by The Highway’s now a pizza place, they used the old paint factory for the fictional Sun Hill Police Station, they had to move location due to the newspaper print workers strike, uniform actors were mistakenly taken as being real coppers, the brick road used at the of The Bill was somewhere around Tower Bridge, and never found out where.
Interesting video. The Bill was a great series and it shouldn't have ended when it did. Been watching the recent re-runs on Freeview 20 Drama Channel. Great cars too.
Sadly The Bill moved due to News International who moved their newspapers (The Sun, The Times, Sunday Times and News of the World) to a new purpose built facility which included the print works as well. When they moved there were job losses and protests too which got quite nasty and Thames Television (makers of The Bill) decided it was not a good idea to have a police drama being filmed just down the road, hence they moved Sun Hill to their second home in North London (the building still exists today!) before finally moving to South London from around 1989, explaining the move as a "rebuild" of Sun Hill which included an IRA bomb attack - cue the start of using Sun Hill number 3!

Really enjoyed this! I wish the office block was still there - like the new titles too!
Great video Sion. Love the old cars...well they were quite new back then. @ 2:56 there is a lovely beige Volvo estate.

That took me back, well presented video again 👍
That's super kind, thank you
I watched early episodes here on TH-cam quite a few years ago!

Ahh that's interesting, thank you. I hadn't realised exactly why they moved after season 2
the only sunhill police stn i knew of was the one on an industral estate in colliers wood sw19, behind the sainsbury savacentre
I worked with the man who was the opening feet in the bill in the later seasons.
Oh cool!
