Mainly NBP in Britain and TTF in Netherlands . Not all countries agreed to break their long term contracts with " Gazprom " . *Yes, eco-power has not been able to supply enough energy BUT do your research and you’ll find Europe was offered long term gas contracts with Russia and declined to do so many years ago. Gas is not like coal or even oil, if you need to ‘store’ instead of ‘directly pumping’ it then it needs to be ‘liquified’ then when you need to use it has to be ‘converted’ back which COSTS money. If you don’t just ‘continuously pump’ in vaporized form then it’s less cost effective.* 🧐 *In regards to Ukraine, who was it who supported a d’état against a legitimately elected government and overthrew it using no legal means, what country back that move politically?* 🤔 *In regards to areas such as Donbass etc, why were Russian ethics being killed by members of the Ukrainian military & police forces, along with psychopathic thugs LONG BEFORE little green men arrived?* 🤔 *In regards to NordStream 2, why would Russia continue to transit gas to Europe through Ukraine while in growing conflict and under heavily strained relations?* 🤔 *FINALLY, IF RUSSIA WAS USING GAS SUPPLY AS A POLITICAL WEAPON HOW COME EUROPE HAS BEEN BUYING GAS OFF RUSSIA SINCE THROUGHOUT THE COLD WAR, SOVIET UNION TIMES?* 😮
Don't be ridiculous. Of course Russia uses its natural resources as bargaining chips. Every country does to some extent, as a form of "soft" power. The European reliance on Natural Gas gives Putin both influence and leverage, which he isn't afraid to use. OPEC does the same thing with oil.

If you instead watch Russia Today (RT) who are the opposite, they'll deny Russia has ever used such leverage. Both news channels are biased, but that doesn't mean that, in this case, CNBC is wrong. Putin has probably restricted NG supplies to Europe, both to increase the market price further and also to remind the EU of its dependence on Russia to meet its energy needs. Russia's economy has suffered from the economic sanctions imposed after his annexation of Crimea, so this is a welcome windfall. Also, Nordstream 2 is more likely to face less opposition now. Putin is acting in Russia's best interests, at the expense of the EU, who can afford it. However, he's smart enough not to push things too far.

Seems pretty obvious... The EU hasn't concentrated on development of diversified Green energy sources. That addresses decreased output from windmills... There should be a substantial increase in solar farms, and possibly not even rely solely on PV or Heliostat "concentrators" but both. And, probably constuct a "supergrid" that can transport electricity long distances across time zones so that solar can be operational more hous in a day and provide fault toleratance, ie functionality when parts don't perform like the windmills. In fact, maybe it would even make sense to build solar farms in the deserts of the South Mediterranean and transport across the Strait of Gibralter, and maybe Tunisia to Sicily and Italy. And, a Green increase from 9-18% of total energy consumption over 15 years is kind of pathetic. Bottom line is that the EU hasn't been creative and forward thinking enough to address energy needs if it really is serious about transitioning to Green. Here in the US, we have similar probrlems in various parts of our country... We have states like California which have more than doubled the percentage of Green power sources compared to the EU and massive over abundance of wind power generation in Texas, but we also have Green energy deserts across the south east of Texas. The rest of our country is a checkerboard of pockets of large and non-existent Green generation, but hopefully if a modern supergrid can be authorized and built, Green sources of generation will be shared across almost the entire country.
Because the sun is not there at nite nor does it produce when cloudy. Wind turbines need a certain steady speed to get at or near rated output, when the wind shows down output drops significantly. Why do people not understand this?

@@Soth021 Well , I do not know from what European country You are . The main reason for the highest gas prices is that in 2018 European Commission has forced " Gazprom " to change the gas pricing from the long term contracts based on the oil price to so called short term price based on the spot gas price on the European Trade Gas Exchanges . Mainly NBP in Britain and TTF in Netherlands .
Not all countries agreed to break their long term contracts with " Gazprom " . Some kept them and their prices are low to moderate , slightly higher than the beginning of the year , correlated to the increased oil price . For example Germany , Hungary , Austria , Turkey . The European countries that followed the European Commission idiotic rules and went with the new short term contracts based on the spot gas prices on the gas trade exchanges were ripped by the prices on those two gas trade exchanges . As an example I can give You the fact that the gas prices there went from $ 200 per 1000 cubic meters in the beginning of this year to $ 1937 per 1000 cubic meters of natural gas yesterday . That is almost 10 times higher in the mater of less than 10 months . For example Poland , Lithuania , Latvia , Estonia , Bulgaria , Romania , Moldova .

If you don’t just ‘continuously pump’ in vaporized form then it’s less cost effective.* 🧐

Don't be ridiculous. Of course Russia uses its natural resources as bargaining chips. Every country does to some extent, as a form of "soft" power. The European reliance on Natural Gas gives Putin both influence and leverage, which he isn't afraid to use. OPEC does the same thing with oil.

This is the CNBC channel, so you can expect them to be pro-EU and biased against Russia, which is why they use such language.

Green washing took us here. First after fukushima, the fear of a nuclear disaster increased, so governments decided to shut them down. In return nat gas, coal and hidroelectric had to compensate for this. And then without any viable alternative, they decided to increase carbon credits price. Voila this is the reason why
It’s because the WEF told them so. Too much money to be made in a less efficient energy source. Let’s be real.

Instead of Russia's controversial gaz supplying policy the EU can turn to the Algerien gaz its cheaper and reliable spain and Italy are already buying gaz from Algeria so the other EU members should
Seems pretty obvious...
What happened to Norwegian gas?
Why while more and more renewable energy sources are being build the gas consumption in Europe is increasing even faster ?
Just one example, Germany close practically all the nuclear plants and is producing all that energy just with fuels (gas)
Because the sun is not there at nite nor does it produce when cloudy. Wind turbines need a certain steady speed to get at or near rated output, when the wind shows down output drops significantly. Why do people not understand this?
Could it be that we have become too ideological and green, hence relying on too few options for our energy needs? I do believe in creating a lifestyle with fewer energy needs but I also want to keep warm , cook food and shower
Yes we have become to dependent but the alternative is a possibility for quite literally the end of the earth and can we really risk that?
