Sarah Lynn kept trying to talk about her trauma throughout this episode and Bojack blew her off every single time. When she says it should be illegal to make children act and that she didn't have a choice, and Bojack just thinks thats depressing and changes the subject. Even though suggesting to go to the planetarium was a nice thing, it was still to avoid having to listen to Sarah Lynn's pain, partly because he is directly responsible for a lot of it. And even in the last few moments of the episode, Bojack wasn't talking about _them_. He was talking about himself. His fears about not being remembered. Sarah Lynn will be remembered. But what does that even matter when her life has been so shitty?
And going to the planetarium was related to Sarah Lynn's true passion: architecture. Even until her last moments, her desire to be an architect was blown off by everyone.
Yeah, Imon, you got it right about Sarah Lynn's step father. It is heavily implied in a few subtle instances throughout the show that he has been sexually abusive to her since she was a little girl. Sarah Lynn in general is, as far as I'm concerned, one of the most tragic characters in TV history in spite of the little screen time she has (although the lack of screen time kinda drives the point of Bojack not really caring about her). Grew up in fame and little privacy which probably completely warped her worldview and perception of other people, used and taken advantage of by everyone, including her own mother and the one she internalized as a father figure, treated as a spectacle by the media, then died an undignified death at a depressingly young age, full of longing for a childhood she never had. A grim and poignant commentary on how show business commodifies, abuses then spits out young talent when they're not profitable.

@Cannibal Teddy Probably tied with season 6’s episode 15 for me as my favorite Bojack episode- but the season 4 ep 11 hits a little different than the others- emotionally harrowing, but almost uplifting and more bitter sweet rather than just straight up tragic and/or unsettling and terrifying like most of the others
All of Bojack's "amends" are exactly how Sarah Lynn describes it at the beginning of this episode: They're flimsy, superficial ways of feeling better after wallowing in your own self-pity for doing something shitty to the people who care about you. That's why Herb Kazzaz rejected Bojack's apology in season 1 and why Charlotte did not leave that door open for Bojack in season 2. It's also why the "It's You"-moment happened and was so striking.
Their bender was about 6 or 7 weeks. Thats how long it usually takes between the Oscar Nominees and the Oscar's. I'm an alcoholic who was also heavy into drugs for 5 years. This show got me into NA and clean but im still working on alcohol. Bojack is super relatable to me. Inrelate to Diane, Bojack and PC. I had a shitty childhood and my dad was abusive especially when my mom left us with no contact, depression AND alcoholism runs in my family and I drew the wrong cards. Im in the process of getting sober ever since Bojack ended. I've been on benders like this before. My longest was 2 weeks and a 6 week one like this is definitely death for anyone in real life. This is absolutely it though. Blackout after blackout. Dark thought after dark thought. Happy fun times in between that make you do more to chase that feeling because you desperately want to be happy. I dont think any show is more realistic in portraying mental illness and family/abuse issues than this show about animated anthropomorphic animals. Many psychologists think so too actually. In all reality it is an amazing show. It has helped me on the path to recovery and so many others. It also helps those who don't understand to understand. Especially the fact that Bojack is famous. It helps people realize what its like and that it can happen to anyone. The richest of the rich or the poorest of the poor. This is one of the few episodes that I always cry to. Im a 35 almost 36 year old man and I still cry to episodes of an animated show about talking animals haha. This really hits hard though. Especially thinking back to my teenage years. I've lost friends to mental illness and in the past 10 years being in my 30s I've also lost friends to substances. Thats the worst part of growing up. If you have mental issues you are attracted to those who also suffer. They understand you. You understand eachother. But then over time you make things worse for eachother. You feel guilty you csnt help them or thay you're making them worse. You get to an all time low if one of them ends up dying because of it because "you should have helped" "you could have stopped it... but you didn't". Bojack really does change lives. It sounds like an edgy teen thing to say but its the truth. When my daughter grows up a little more im going to watch this with her. If she gets depression from me im going to be super hurt. Me and my fiance are trying so hard to be good parents. Me especially because I want her to NOT be like me. She is going to experience alcohol with me when she's of legal age and ill be damned if she tries it before. I'll be strict but loving. Once she's legal age I will do whatever drug she wants WITH her. I want to know she's okay. I want her to be okay in life. Better than me. If I can talk her out of something I will. If not I'll do it with her. She's my daughter. She's my life. She's one of the few reasons I have to not kill myself. The peoppe I care about have always been the reason. Back when I was a teen going on week long benders I didn't care if I died or not. Why would I when I had nobody? My parents were the reason I didn't. I had friends but not close. When I moved out I met a girl and I didn't for her. She became my fiance and we are a couple months away from being married. I don't because of her, my daughter and my Mom still. My mom was always caring and supportive. It was only my dad who was abusive and drunk. But yeah, the things keeping me from killing myself are my family and friends. I dont care if I die. Ill feel nothing. Why would I care if its not feeling the way I do anymore? I have people I care about though. They need me. I need them. Bojack helped me with this more than I can explain. Its generally the case that those who suffer from depression cannot explain nor relate to those who do not suffer. People without it do not understand us. We can't explain the feelings to them and can't relate so its hard to make connections. The best thing is finding others who suffer but it ends up making you worse. Once you grow up a little like I did, you'll realize that while this is true, you can also help people. I helped my best friend who happens to be a woman while I had a fiance. She was totally aware of me helping my friend and we let her stay in our apartment. We were the closest friends both of us have ever had. I love her and she loves me. Love is not JUST for family and significant others. I love her and I love all my friends. Deeply and fully. I would do anything to keep them safe and alive and help them. And I have. Bojack has helped me, I introduced them years back and I've stayed by them through their recovery. We all still use and semi-abuse alcohol but its expected. Long term alcoholics and narcotic abusers don't quit something forever. We need something to numb ourselves. We have all found our significant other to help us more though. Its been a long process but the last of my friends has found his last year. We all have people we care about. More than half of us have kids now. Im probably all over the place but its because im drunk. I get drunk almost every night when my fiance goes to sleep to help me feel better and sleep better. It numbs the bad thoughts. I watch these videos and others to see people who understand. If really helps me and I absolutely love them. Keep up the great videos and many other including myself lobe this series. I especially love your discussions and I can't wait for a podcast. Much love, -Dustin and friends

During the "Prickly Muffin"song in season 1, we see the Planetarium. Good foreshadowing! The lifeguard story is important in context with her and Bojack. You can't save everyone and you can put yourself into danger, meaning that two people will die. It doesn't mean "You're a lifeguard, but you should let people die."or anything like that. It just means "You can't save everyone and if you keep trying, you'll end up sinking as well." Yeah, theres a bunch of references to the disturbing truth, that Sarah Lynn was molested by her stepfather. In one episode, she hides out in Bojack's dressing room because "Her stepfather is in hers and acting weird." She also knows what bear fur tastes like, which adds to the squick factor.

10:23 It’s a stylistic choice, not a literal earthquake or even a real flashback... I think you guys took a lot of what was drug hallucination induced scenes as something real. This episode was largely a drug trip, so I’m not sure how you got that impression on the “earthquake”.
Not caring/paying attention mostly. It was obvious that most jokes didn't even land. "That's so funny" while not even laughing. They were puzzled why Bojack fired PC. They didn't care
Hopefully you guys are able to start two a week with Bojack soon! Another great reaction, although I can see why you held the bulk of the discussion until after the finale
I just watched this episode for the first time and its really got me feeling stuff. The whole episode was really well written. Sarah Lynn was incredibly well written. She was reaching out for help at every opportunity and being shut down, the running theme being no one tells her no, which Bojack rejects and forgets about entirely, ultimately being killed by Bojack (the drug). Its incredibly sad
I think when BoJack isn't high, his mind is compartmentalizing and deflecting the thoughts of guilt (which he always has). When he's high - the aspects his ego and his anxiety that otherwise keep him from facing that guilt fall away, and in that state he is actually motivated enough to do something - tell the people he cares about that he loves them and is sorry .. which becaue he's high as fuck, doesn't work out too well. Also - notably - when he opens up to the guilt, he almost but not quite makes the connection that apologizing is not enough and that you have to commit to very uncomfortable reflection and change. And this time, with that little reminder from his glovebox with the "BoJack"-label ... the consequences may be a little more immediate and ... irreconcilable than usual. In general - it seems to me that guilt and desire to atone and be a better person are there, at the bottom of his feeling about himself and the people around him - joined of course by selfish and self-destructive patterns and spirals of thought and action. But he does love the people around him and doesn't want them to get hurt, which contributes to sober him being unable to face the magnitude of hurt he caused and continues to cause to those around him both directly and indirectly through his self-destructive behavior. It's of course a very extreme case with BoJack - but I think for more of us than we like to think/admit to ourselves, there are some aspects to these patterns of thought and behavior of the characters in BoJack which (to a lesser degree maybe) we can relate to ourselves. What a show... I love its reflections on the human condition and the quirks, idiosyncrasies, and tragedies of human relationships - to significant others, to family, friends and to oneself. When it hits a little a close to home sometimes - that makes it all the more significant of an artistic achievement.
Anna spanicopita told bojack to let people drown sometimes. Bojack grows up thinking everyone that’s family suffers but swims together knowing that you aren’t drowning alone. When he’s with Sarah he’s drowning with her and she’s drowning too they go to the extreme because they both are unhappy in similar ways drowning. He constantly checks with her but they’ve been partying for a long time and they’re both running on fumes. They keep going until they give out and at that point he wonders do I keep treading water with them or do we really drown together. His heart didn’t give out like hers did but they both were dying.

I love how this episode hints at the passage of time. Last episode Mr. Peanutbutter and Todd hosted the Oscars and there's another Oscar ceremony in this episode. That means Bojack and Sarah Lynn went on a bender for about a year.
that previously was just the nominations, now it was the actual awarding. there's roughly 6 weeks inbetween normally, so their bender was probably also around that length.
@@GatileoGatilei No way. Then Free Churo is a close second for me followed by the Secretariat Talk Show Episode and The Flashback Butterscotch & His BH's Mom episode then the Fly re-building the house episode

"Can you snort heroin?" Ever seen pulp fiction?
two bojack episodes a week?
Episode 11 is the gut punch always and he’s she died in the planetarium.
Bojack Horseman is my 2 favorite show of all time. Been fun seeing all your reactions.
*sees notifiication* *practices breathing exercise*
Buddy you'll want to bring your oxygen mask for The view from half way down
From the next episode, there's no Sarah Lynn in the intro.
11:48 XD well almost...
Very well said
The little comment about Diana in there. Everything in this series is deliberate.
Oh I have to go get a snack for this one, gonna be a rough reaction!! Whoopee!!😰
this episode, damn
This episode almost made me cry. Which is saying something because I have never cried to a tv show.
thats too much man!
"Everything is good when you go to the planetarium"
- Famous Last Words
i love it when ppl react to bojack horseman omg
gotta first catch up tho!!
this was a heavy episode
Anna spanicopita told bojack to let people drown sometimes. Bojack grows up thinking everyone that’s family suffers but swims together knowing that you aren’t drowning alone. When he’s with Sarah he’s drowning with her and she’s drowning too they go to the extreme because they both are unhappy in similar ways drowning. He constantly checks with her but they’ve been partying for a long time and they’re both running on fumes.
They keep going until they give out and at that point he wonders do I keep treading water with them or do we really drown together. His heart didn’t give out like hers did but they both were dying.
“Everything’s good when you go to the planetarium.” Ooooh yikes 😬
....aaaaaaand the knock down.
"Everythings good when you go to the planetarium"... Oh.
"Everything's good when you go to a planetarium" yeah, it's good... life's good... :')

Hey Watching you from México! You girls are great !!!

@@GatileoGatilei U want the link lol? Or are you cool with waiting. (It’s the full episode timer tho. So it doesn’t show and u have to play the actual episode on a different device while their reaction is also playin)
@@sia6045 uhhhh don't worry, i will wait!
Thanks tho
Now I wanna see the next episode 😆
I think you both know Bojack isn't the type of a show to try and trick you into thinking a character is dead. That's all i'll say.
(SPOILER ALERT)
except for the view from halfway down, totally thought bojack was dead, kinda wish he did die because the thought that he wasn't going to live made that episode so much more impactful
Well, except for the middle of this episode, lol. "SARAH LYNN!" "WHAT?!!!"
Yo Bojack Is A Funny Show
Sarah Lynn: So what is she? Asian Daria or something?
Oh, shit. Here it is. The moment Bojack goes from comedy with intense moments to fuck-you-life-sucks.
Yes... you can totally snort heroin, same as cocaine... just don't ever shoot either in your veins... fucking horrifying and something I will NEVER ever do
it is implied that sarah lynns stepfather sexually harrassed her multiple times its rly sad
"Everythings good when you go to the planetarium"
"You'd think shes just sleeping"
You are both so innocent haha
this is the episode i always view the least on my rewatches because man....
This and the next episode are just...
This episode was so dark
Do y’all do full reactions on patreon? If not you should
Broke me.
This and Black mirror really like doing depressing themes lol why, really deep great episode & im glad I do t drink much
Im ussualy skip the intro, but, this time, this episode...
🤘🤘
This is the saddest episode ever. 1st place for me as the best episode
Interesting, i always thought this episode was a weak one compared to the other 11's
@@GatileoGatilei No way. The whole Bojack & Sarah-Lynn segment was pure art considering both characters arcs and that ending with him pouring his heart and thinking his finally found something worth it only for her to die is just beautiful.
Then Free Churo is a close second for me followed by the Secretariat Talk Show Episode and The Flashback Butterscotch & His BH's Mom episode then the Fly re-building the house episode
Only blacked out twice in my life...0/10 don't recommend.
What’s it like
@@tylerkoo2819 it's scary, sometimes it's fun, except when you are driving
Please, react next episode!
Nope, she’s dead
It's an interesting episode to think about...
Sarah Lynn seems to be a horrible character, she's such a bitch...
And she isn't even in most episodes, so we don't develope a close relationship as we do with the other characters..
And yet when she dies we all feel it
PLEASE REACT TO SEVEN DEADLY SINSSSSSS
Finally someone who wants it too
Nah, assassination class room
@@sia6045 didn't really ask]
make your own comment about that
React to GOLDEN KAMUY it has HUSBANDOS and a great plot too XDDDDD!!!
