Thank you, Venerables. As I understand it, wakefulness holds the pressure, maintains it. Sense restraint/virtue extends it. The danger of releasing the pressure is the compromising of gradual establishment in right order.
Easy to let the air out, hard to pump and keep it full. Against the grain. Against the stream.

  • @universeworld9982

Update. I regained the momentum of my bad thought. I had a strong emotional attachment to my kitten as I saw it reccover after it had huge injuries on its back and was crying. My mom decided to castrate her or spay her. I got into grief, pain, fear, sadness because I wanted her to have kittens one day. I felt she was unique and that she not having kittens was a loss and I got pictures in my mind when she was young and cute and kept feeling grief as this kitten that I loved would not be able to have kittens. I clearly overly emotionaly reacted and I solved my emotional absorbtion in the problem. Today after I practiced deliberately focusing my attention away from it and focusing on the breath and a neutral sound such as the sound of my lamp the bad emotional momentum started to fade away until it ceased. It is so important to learn to deliberately focus where one wants and to deliberately think what one wants. Usually it feels as if the thought is "thinking us"when we are in a bad thought momentum but if we strengthen the musscle of deliberate thinking the confidence and faith that one knows how to deal with the challenges of different bad thoughts are really empowering.
I will be watching this video to the end it feels as I am more qualified to understand better what Bhante teaches now when I am better at focusing either to focus to deliberately stop any bad thought or to focus and change to a good thought.
Im yet to hear anything from Venerable Bhante about restraining thoughts from Bhante he is usually talking about restraining speech and bodily actions. I would really want to hear a video on purely learning to deliberately stopping any bad thought and and how advice us to do it and also the advice of changing to a positive one.
    Thank you.

I understand what your talking about and this is what I have been doing in the past as a believer of the law of attraction. But I think bhante is now talking one step deeper after that level.
Deliberately trying to stop the negative thoughts or negative emotion by thinking a positive thought or changing it to a positive emotion is exactly what he is trying to say don't do. Don't act out of the unpleasant feeling.
Trying to change the thought or feeling that is currently enduring is in a very subtle way of acting out of it cuz it's now pressuring you to do something. In fact don't think, don't try to change the emotion, first just learn to endure the unpleasant feeling. Then the next step will come eventually, the right understanding. The right view.
But this is where my old belief in the theory of the law of attraction comes in. If your enduring the unpleasant feeling won't it keep attracting more unpleasant feelings continuously? Maybe this is where I am wrong. If you do it right it will not do that.

    • @theinngu5560
      @theinngu5560 ปีที่แล้ว

When you endure an unpleasant feeling/thought, it ceases to be by itself as do all conditioned phenomena….another unpleasant feeling may arise and by enduring that it will cease to be and so on….by use of the law of attraction you are simply suppressing unpleasant feelings and when the conditions are right they will arise with more ferocity and hence you suffer more. Good you have found this.

How old is Venerable Nyannamoli ? He’s seems rather young to be so wise and with such insight, I’ve always wondered his age

    • @fingerprint5511

He is 40 years old and Serbian which means his brainwashing of the Western world is much lower than average. The Jugoslav people are very earthy and are brought up with Nature, death, illness, aging, and so understand reality of life so it's no surprise Ajahn is full of Metta and wisdom - we are blessed he went forth and is teaching us. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Edit. I may be biased as I'm half Macedonian but I can attest what I say is truth having observed Baltic folk all my life and had a parent who was same.

    Dear Ajahn,
Would you be willing to share your thoughts on, or perhaps your approach to the practice of recollecting the devas? I've been thinking about it recently as I reflect on the other subjects to be recollected but I can't yet make sense of it.
    With gratitude,
    Simon

While a person may be uncertain whether future lives or realms such as devas or hell actually exist, it is beneficial not to dismiss or blindly believe these ideas and remain discerning of the possibility of such things. It is better to be honest with yourself about what you know and do not know and not jump into assumptions on account of how you feel in regard to these ideas .
By recollecting the possibility of their existence and how that existence came about, we can live more carefully and with a heightened sense of shame, recognizing how our actions may have profoundly wonderful or devasting effects even beyond the scope of this current life.

What an astute answer you provided Bhante Thaniyo. Very impressive. For one in doubt without direct experience of the deva/brahma/formless spaces this advice is stellar. For one with direct experience with them your answer still rings true.
The delineation between "hellscapes" and "heavenly-clusters" is blurry too. An attained one might say they are the same meal prepared with slightly different base ingredients, served in the same restaurant and all ending in an unpleasant excretion. A creature's past-actions bring the ingredients to the kitchen and their present mentality controls the table seasonings. The creature must leave the restaurant to avoid the force-feedings and losing meal tickets. The plates are all tainted. There is no health inspector to protect the patrons wondering to their tables.
