These men do a very dangerous job, and the British fire and rescue services have had year upon year of cuts and it is about time it stopped. Sadly until someone in government loose a family member in a house fire or an rtc and they found out that the men took longer to arrive than normal because the local station had been closed due to budget cuts, or they couldn’t recruit more men so appliances had to come from the next nearest/ available station. Thee Tories cut and cut the Fire Service funding until Fire Stations actually closed and firefighters were not replaced when they retired it now takes fire engines LONGER to get to incidents when time is important, but these brave men and women still do their jobs to the best of their ability.
Using part time retained crews is not providing full immediate fire and rescue cover 24 hours a day and the FBU are correct to raise this as a serious issue
