    The question that remains unanswered is how much sharpness you lose doing this. Compare the results of the adapted 16-35 on an R7 with the lens set to 22mm and on the same camera with a regular (no glass) adapter and the lens set to 16mm. You seem very impressed by the 'speed booster' feature but the same adapter also makes the 16-35 into an effective 10-22mm wide zoom by countering the crop factor. For wide angle fans, this would seem a good feature compared to buying the Canon 10-18 EF-S to be used on a regular adapter. The price is similar but you do gain that bit of speed as well. Again the question is how the images compare between the smaller, slower 10-18 and the boosted 16-35.

      Any of them to be honest. You will get the most benefit from it with low-speed lenses, F4+ as well as wide angle lenses to retain some of the wide angle. my EF 16-35 F4 on an R7 with this booster would effectively be something like an 18-40 F2.8. For me, the Viltrox EF-R3 doesn't seem to work quite right with the R7. It's my understanding that when using the EF-R3 and say a Canon EF 16-35/2.8 Lens on the R7, that the camera should actually show F2 as an option (effectively fooled by the EF-R3 and then the EF-R3 maps back to physical stops E.g. F2 back to physical F2.8). That's not happening for me and I'm nearly certain I've seen vides where this happens with the Viltrox speedbooster... If I've imagined that, please let me know...

    I'm curious how a speed booster could allow more light through a lens when the lens is already taking in the maximum light it can at its widest aperture.

    • @RexxReviews
      @RexxReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A speed booster directs the light more towards the center of the lens using a magnifying type of lens in the booster itself. When you put a full frame lens on an APS-C camera the outside edges of that lens are essentially not being used. because the light is being directed towards the center of the lens with this additional lens inside the booster the light is amplified and made brighter, this is how the extra stop of light is being produced. There are videos out there that can explain exactly how it works far better than I can LOL, i just call it magic.

    • @naturealbums
      @naturealbums 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the way to imagine it is when you use a magnifying glass with sunlight it's only when you concentrate the same amount of light going through the lens over a smaller area, the suns light can even start a fire. Same effect with the speedbooster... the full frame lens lets in a fixed amount of light normally that is just enough for a full frame sensor but a crop sensor uses only a portion of that light, with the speedbooster all of the full image circle of light is used concentrated over a smaller crop sensor area. I'm looking forward to getting one got a R7 preordered.

    i don't think there's any lens that is the equivalent of a 35f1.8oss on sony apsc, for canon. so, a lens that produces a 35mm classic field of view, with an 1.8 aperture, while also keeping the autofocus capabilities close to intact.
    viltrox is probably $200+. together with the body, thats $1700+. if you're a canon guy/girl or already own glass, then i guess r7 makes sense, but if you're not in the canon "ecosystem", why not buy a7c used at $1500, excellent af and full frame dynamic range, and no problems with the different mounts that canon has.
    also, rolling shutter seems to be very problematic on r7, might be even worse than sony's current apsc (or close?), since they have to process a 32mp sensor instead of 24.

    • @RexxReviews
      @RexxReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are lots of reasons. The a7c is only 24mp FF. 32mp on the R7 is closer to about 60+mp if it were full frame when you consider that a 45mp full frame in crop mode is only about 17mp. The focus system on the R7 is the same as the R3 so it's going to stomp all over and older a7c. The Canon EF 35mm 2.0 with this booster would be about be about 38-39mm at about F1.4 so its not far off. While I would tell anyone looking at the R7 to look at some Sony options the A7c would not be the option I had in mind.

  • @gregoryfricker9971
    @gregoryfricker9971 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t think this works like you think it works. You aren’t getting any extra light. You are just focusing it on a smaller sensor. That’s great if you weren’t using that light anyway (crop sensor) but pretty useless if you are using it on a full frame camera unless you need a mode that can be only accessed in crop mode. Test it for yourself. The depth of field and field of view are the exact same between the crop mode with speed booster and in full frame mode without.
