- This video explains how to modify the bumper brackets on a 1500 Silverado to mate up with the 2500 HD bumper brackets. This is the simplest and cleanest conversion method I've found. You will need to know how to remove and reinstall your grille and bumper before attempting this tutorial.

Man I was trying to figure this out on my own over the summer. I ended up cutting the stock brackets off the frame and welding the HD ones on. Then I modified factory bumper supports for the corners of the bumper. This video does a great job teaching how it’s done. I literally had to look at random HD trucks in person and online to get the bumper gap fitment

This video really explains on what/how to measure the cut of the brackets, this really help me out. I did did the same thing you did on the video and it went smooth just had take out my tow hooks since the bumper didn't fit but everything went in fine I give this a 10/10 👍

@@j.e.t.lifetothenextlife200 I was looking for an OEM paint grade bumper, so I purchased my bumper and brackets used from a local marketplace. It was a very affordable way to go about it, as it came with all the brackets, screws, etc. The only brackets I purchased new were the side brackets which I got from carparts.com.

I just got the bumper on my truck your the man it was kinda of a pain in the behind but we messed up by having the 2 bolts on the side of 1500 brackets tightened and it wouldnt let the 21mm bolt slide through we loosened them and wiggled it on till we found the holes and presto im rolling HD now truck looks crazy good now compared to the all black plastic front end 😂

Thanks bro. Your stock hood will work, and I personally like the sleeker look. You can use any 07-14 grille with the 11-14 HD bumper.

Great video, got a question though I have an 09 is there a certain year bumper I need to do the install I know there is 07-10 & 11-13?? I ask because I tried putting 09Hd grill on the other day and didn’t fit because it was to tall or was it because my bumper isn’t hd yet?
Thanks. The 11-14 hd grille will fit with your 09 1500 bumper. I had this set up on my 09 before I did the bumper conversion.
If you want to do the bumper conversion, you’ll want to use the same 11-14 hd setup. Looks way better than the 1500 in my opinion.
Could you do a video talking more about the side braces, I feel like that’s something critical to show if it helps line it up. I have a 2012 Silverado and it has a DV8 off-road bumper. I’m thinking about doing the HD conversation and this video is perfect on how to modify the brackets, haven’t see this good of a video going over how to modify the brackets. But if you could make a short vid and talk about the side braces that would be great!

@@danielbalke9635 They are very important. The side brackets keep the bumper sides from vibrating while you’re driving. Also keeps it from sagging on the sides, relieving stress on the main front brackets.
You use the 11-14 HD 2500 side brackets and they mount to the HD bumper just like factory, and you use your factory mounting location on your 1500 frame. On the frame mounts, they only line up with the mounting location closest to the frame. If you want to use both mounting locations here, you’ll need to drill it out. Please let me know if this helps. I wanted OEM, LTZ so I sourced my color match on Facebook marketplace. Took about 6 months of looking, lol
You could try that route or there is a link in the description for the chrome set up.

…the 1500 and 2500 grilles are interchangeable. You can run the 1500 grille with the 2500 bumper or the 2500 grille with the 1500 bumper.
The only thing is the 2500 grille sticks out about a 1/4” on the top sides of the 1500 hood. Some guys like this look as it has that old school slant back low profile vibe.

Great video very well explain, my question is are the 1500 side bumper brackets different from the hd side bumper brackets? I haven’t purchased the bumper yet but trying to collect as much info on that before I purchase it. Can I use any of the 1500 bumper brackets for the hd bumper?
The 2500 and 1500 side brackets are different. You’ll will reuse your 1500 frame mounting brackets, and everything else uses the 2500 brackets.

Quick question did you use the bolts of the original bumper brackets for the hd brackets, because I bought the hd brackets but it didn’t come with bolts
No I use the 11-14 HD bolts. The only bolts I reused were the 1500 frame bracket bolts.

Or which ones would you recommend? I bought a hd bumper but I didn't with with any of the hardware
I can’t remember. There are schematics online that will give you the OEM bolt numbers. I found them under Chevy dealer websites then gave the OEM numbers to a third party seller that sold them at half the price.

How do you adjust the front bumper to make it straight up and down ?? Thank you for the help
With the grille off, loosen up the frame mounting bracket bolts (4 total). If you’re doing it alone, leave them tight enough to hold as you move it or have someone gauge it for you. Place the crowbar (curved end) under the frame bracket, and pry back toward the truck. This will lift up and back on the bumper assembly.
I used a 1 1/4” (give or take) piece of foam to gauge the sides of the bumper where it meets the fender. It’s a tighter fit than factory. 👍🏼
Once in position, tighten up the bolts one side at a time. Hope this helps. ☠️👊🏼

@@figet0358 If the side brackets are pulling down on the bumper ends (when tightening the outside/lower bolt, you’ll need to measure the gap between the mounting bracket and side mounting brace.
Then, use a spacer equivalent or slightly larger to that distance so you can tighten it up without pulling down on the bumper ends.
For instance, let’s say on the driver side (no bolt installed) you have a 1/2” gap between the side brace and side mounting bracket, then you’ll need to cut a 1/2” spacer or slightly larger to fill in this gap.
If you don’t have any spacers, you could also stack washers to fill this space.
Would trying to install this bumper on a 04 1500 Silverado work ??
Would be awesome, but I don’t think so. Too many variables between the years. Don’t get me wrong, put enough time and money into anything and you can get it done… But I don’t think it would be practical.

Grille fits right in. Only adjustment you may need to do is on the bumper itself.

You need around 12 10mm bolts for the brackets alone. Then get
Then get 15 star point 1.5 inch screws for the bottom valence. And for the fog light bezels you use the bolts from the old bumper

How does the fender well fit ? my passenger side doesn’t fit right there’s about a 3/4 inch gap or so in the front from the plastic going inside into the bumper but my driver fits like OEM
That’s Wierd mine has gap on driver side and the passenger fits like oem
My driver side is the same, sticks out 3/4”. If you want the perfect fitment, you’ll need to get the 2500 HD wheel liners. …but with that said, I have an idea in mind of how to fix the 1500 originals. I’ll put up a video either way I go.

How do u line up the bumper so there will be no gaps
The front bumper to grille should come out good, just focus on the sides. I used the curved side of a medium size crowbar to get the side gaps tight.
With the frame bracket bolts loose, I put the crowbar under the 1500 modified frame bracket and pried back while I had someone else hold a 1/4” piece of heavy foam to gauge the bumper / fender side gap.. Once the gap was good, I righted up the bracket bolts, then did the other side the same way. Doing one side at a time is easiest.

Couldn’t you have used the 2500 frame mounts to easily match the the bracket??
You can use the 2500 frame mounting brackets, but I don’t recommend this install method. The 2500 frame brackets sits about 2-3” higher than the 1500 brackets, as the 2500 truck body sits a little higher. You would need to section the 2500 frame bracket to keep the bolt on method, or you would have to weld the 2500 brackets to the frame and cut the excess off. By doing this, you also lose a pivot point for proper alignment of the bumper. No one really does this anymore, as it is more complicated and time consuming. The simplest way is how I’ve shown.

That’s correct. There are no mods needed to install the HD grille.

You will only reuse you 1500 frame mounting bracket bolts. The 2500 bumper assembly uses different bolts/screws.

Looks like they use the same brackets, but I haven’t done the gmc yet.

No, I’ve known guys that never put them on. They just tend to sag near the wheel wells and vibrate when you’re driving.
