Jones is a 'Blue Chipper'. We need him to be competitive! When it comes to stopping the run, Jones is the business which has been a key issue for the Seahawks.
They did give him a really good run defense grade, it's just his pass coverage grade that drops his overall score a bit. I think he's worth bringing back for sure, run defense is a lot more important than pass coverage for a LB IMO.
If I'm Jones I'd take a 1-2yr deal for 10-12M/yr and hope McDonald's defense gets me paid big when Im 26-27yrs old. If Im John Schneider I'd lock this guy up for 3-4yrs at anything under 14M/yr
Y’all just saying he was bad sounds like you heard your opinion. Brooks was solid and a good tackler he sucked in coverage and was bullied in Pete’s vanilla defense everyone knew we ran.
Bobby Wagner is a tackle farmer. The last 4 seasons he doesn't go forward and make a tackle he waits 5 yards deep and tackles. Outside of the Ram season.
Salary cap will go up again. All contracts will be more than looking back a few years. Also need to evaluate the current LB market and what supply & demand might look like. Add in this year's draft class, too.
I think you overrate the "coverage abilty" too much. In this era it's about securing the run. Not just from the RB but from the QB as well. We gotta be next gen
@jarrettchristensen_music we let him go and he went and helped a defense win the super bowl with the rams, he comes back to a stinky Pete defense, then we let him go again and he almost goes to the super bowl again. And now we're trying to sign Ernest Jones who much like Bobby is a LOS lb.
If McDonald is truly a "linebacker whisperer" who can develop the right players into stars, much like Pete did with cornerbacks, wouldn’t it make more sense not to re-sign Jones and allocate that money elsewhere? After all, he managed to turn Knight-who no one expected to become a star, especially as a rookie-into a standout player.
If you wanna run the ball, you build a REAL OL for the Players to succeed and the OC to keep his job. Seahawk Mgt and Coaches say EVERY YR = We wanna run the ball, but they fail because of no OL, and then fire the OC = INSANITY = Making the same mistakes expecting different results. Schneider must be fired if he fails again at this simple understanding.
I'm not as high on EJ as everyone else. When I watched the second half of the season, I was looking at Tyrice Knight and thinking "that guy is our best linebacker". I don't think Ernest Jones is as good of a tackler in the open field. I think he's much better at the line of scrimmage. If PFF says otherwise then I disagree with them. To all the EJ lovers that have commented, I'd just like to ask a question... do you want to sign this guy so much because we already have him or do you really see something in him? If he had played out the year with Tennessee, would you be jumping for us to sign him as a free agent at $13M a year or would you pass?
He fixed a problem..yes...the run coverage is excellent by EJ...but his open field coverage is terrible..I do agree with you...but do they have an option without him there. Sometimes you keep a player because you don't have a better option right now.
Seahawks would want to extend him because we could see a literal impact when he was playing. It’s good that he is a LOS type of LB since one of our struggles is the run defense
Brendon, these videos are AWESOME!!$ def my favorite so far !!!
Could you possibly do FA targets video?
Absolutely must sign EJ.

I’d be happy if he signed for around that Queen salary
Thanks for the information Brendon.
Ernest Jones is the proof that Pro Football Focus doesn't know wtf they are talking about.

Hopefully not more than 16-17 million a year….. this needs to be a 4-5 year deal straight up.
That’s around what Brooks was asking for if I’m remembering correctly 🤣
@@sabastian3022 rather have EJ4 then Brooks
Brooks wasn't that good tho lol
Y’all just saying he was bad sounds like you heard your opinion. Brooks was solid and a good tackler he sucked in coverage and was bullied in Pete’s vanilla defense everyone knew we ran.
yeah I dont see that at all probably 14mil max a year (on average)
4 yr/48 mil. First two years guaranteed.
Bobby Wagner is a tackle farmer. The last 4 seasons he doesn't go forward and make a tackle he waits 5 yards deep and tackles. Outside of the Ram season.
Or he’s just a good tackler why are you trying to discredit a hall of famer
I’d be happy with $10+M per year but if he want top 5 or 6 I’m out.
I anticipate 39-42M / 3 years
4 years 55 million
4/62 to 4/64m. My opinion hasn't changed.

We should've just kept Bobby.
Why?

6 years 45 million? 😂😂

Well he is one of the best ILB in the league so yes it would be worth it

@austin2056 yeah sure but the hawk,s are super tight on cap...and we have mafe, cross, Bryant to resign
@@joedbz7146 Maybe not. I can live with deficiencies. All players have them. I just want a little better at $13M a year.
Ernest jones is a dawg he’s a straight up man in the run game we need him.
