Very clear and very precise. The engineer did not waste a single second. Value for the time. No distractions like crazy music. Amazing.
Looks just as and inconvenient as it is on the third generation Pilot. Pro tip - after loosening the oil filter with the wrench, put a ziplock bag around the filter and unscrew it. It saves you the headache when it comes to clean up.
A plastic walmart type bag works great too.

Great video! The only thing I’d suggest is to uncover the oil cap before undoing the oil plug screw to help with drainage.

I always pre fill my new filter with oil so I don't have 0 oil pressure at start up..Also I leave it on the ramps until I have confirmed no leaks..Good video..

When you want it done right you do it yourself. And who has time driving to the dealer and waiting an hour or 2 to get the oil changed. I just did my oddy elite oil change during lunch break.
how do you know for sure the dealer changed the filter or even put in the right oil. I take my own oil and watch them do it...Yeah, I am one of those customers...lol

I wonder why there amazing minivan doesn't have hood struts. I own a 2015 Accord EX-L V6 Coupe and it has struts. Usually they reserve their struts for their v6 models so I'm confused.

Hello dail2fast could you tell me what you use for your transmission fluid? I have 2019 odyssey elite with 10 speed auto transmission. First time I get my transmission service at Honda dealership they use ATF 2.O FLUID. This time they use ATF 3.1 FLUID. I been doing some reading online and believe ATF 2.0 FLUID is the right one. I will go back to the dealer soon. Just like to know your on this. Thank you

I have such an hard time getting the van up on the ramps. I'm just so nervous about it
Find a fairly large old mirror (2 ft x 2 ft at least) set it off to the side so you can see (from the driver's seat) the wheel on the front left side climbing the ramp. Makes a huge difference in your confidence when you can watch it happen from the side like that.

I have the same Honda Odyssey and my question is how many miles you van make because my one only make less than 20 per gallon
MPG is not great in city driving. Long highway driving is much better. Also if you have a lead foot, the engine will drink the gas pretty fast.
Do you change transmission fluid by yourself or dealership? Just got quote from dealership cost $350 for transmission fluid change. It's crazy expensive 😫

Your 2018 Odyssey uses 0W20 full synthetic oil. As for brand of oil, use whatever brand you want. All oil sold in N America have to meet a specific standard to be sold. But if you want to spend extra for a specific brand, that's up to you.

Just got a 2020....On the oil filter, is there enough room to get the cap type filter wrench on the filter? I like to torque my filters with a torque wrench.
J Fazzuoli : you won’t be able to do that. not enough room. I have expensive wrench with thin flat head and still couldn’t get it in there.
How many miles before you did your oil change? I know with newer cars and using synthetic oil the intervals for oil changes are longer.
If you follow the car's maintenance reminder, it's about every 7000-8000 miles. I change my oil every 5000 miles. It's up to you, but don't go past 10k.
@@dial2fast 5000 miles is a great interval on the 3.5 V6 especially if you do any short trip driving vs. highway driving.

You should use the oil that's recommended by the manufacturer. The manufacturer have done extensive testing with the specified oil for your engine.
Odyssey's lights are ridiculous, very dim!
Have you ever tried one of those Fumoto valves?
I have not tried it, but did look into it many years ago. One issue back then was it drained the fluid very slow.
I run a fumoto valve on my 2006 Scion. Love it!!! It takes about 5 to 10 minutes completely drain the pan.
I ran a fumoto valve on an 2005 Scion & it definitely saved my oil pan from being replaced. I ended up selling the car with 265,000 miles on it, original clutch, tranny & oil pan.

Our locale Honda dealer only charges 38.15 out the door for an oil change plus they wash the van too. How much does it cost you for just the oil and filter?
Doing the oil change yourself doesn't save you a lot of money..maybe couple of dollars. The dealer buys their oil in a bulk barrow, so it's cheaper than what we pay retail for a jug. Also dealers make very little money doing oil change, but it's a service that gets customer in the door. The people that do their own oil change like to maintain their car themselves and know that it's done right. Sometimes a shop might put in synthetic blend oil or perhaps the wrong oil (as a friend of mine had seen done to his car at a dealership...the receipt stated the wrong oil). This video will help those who might be interested in doing it themselves.

I hate the dealership and rather go to Joe's Garage! The Honda service advisers will push unnecessary stuff you don't need. One even changed some cabin and external lights for me and charged $30 for a $2 bulb! He did a great video!
Agreed. Local Honda dealer makes you have an appointment for an oil change and they took over an hour. Terrible.

What’s the best oil for your van?
Any brand of 0W-20 oil you buy in North America is good for the car. They all have to meet the API engine oil standards. If you want to go with a specific brand, then that's up to you. Keep in mind for daily drive (you are not taking it to the track), these oil will do just fine.

One of the purposes of oil to clean the engine and keep the combustion carbon residue in suspension. If your oil is 'clean' for a long time it means it's not cleaning and carrying gunk away with each change.
Its a DI engine, the oil is always going to "look dirty."

That is a terrible design to place the oil filter there. Makes it so messy.
I was considering a fumoto oil drain valve, but doesnt look messy to change out the oil.
Seems far more accessible than a lot of other places...
I got my first oil change done on my 2019 Odyssey. And the dealer has overfilled the engine. When I check the dipstick level, when it’s cold, the oil level is a little over the “full” mark on the dipstick. I think the dealer added the full 5.7 quarts of oil, when their was some oil left in the engine. Should I be concerned? Should I extract some out?
If you are seeing oil at the full mark when cold, that usually is still fine. If you see it much higher, then you do need to drain some of the oil out through the drain bolt. Too much oil will cause the oil to cavitate (foam up) making the oil ineffective.
04:10 - Oil Change Process - Very poorly designed by Honda, especially the engine oil dripping all over the under-carriage parts, also removing the plastic guards is an unnecessary step to access the oil filter. Honda (or any car manufacturers) should realize that engine oil is changed more often than other fluids in the vehicle. Hence, they should design the oil change process simple... KISS (Keep It Simple, Silly).
Nissan and Honda have the same location of oil filter replacement. Stupid engineer.

Not stupid, cunning! Make it enough trouble for the home oil-changer, and it'll drive up their business! I HATE changing the filter on my 2003 4.6L f-150. Not only is it to the side like that, but putting it through the gauntlet of metal bars and such without spilling it all over is no fun! But NOT having some slimy service writer calling me wanting to upsell, making sure I get the oil and filter I want on my vehicle.....all worth the money I spend on kitty litter! And I don't even have a cat! lol
I hate when manufactures do stupid designs like this one with the oil filter. Hard area to get at and then you get oil all over everything when you change it. Why can't they put it in an easy to get at spot and not drip all over everything. 2010 Jeep Compass is a perfect example of easy to get at and no oil on anything when you change it.
