Right ON Eric!! I've always like how you 'trace the problems' with patience and determination. Congrats! Continue your journey & give Jax a tummy rub for me.
Love your shots. I am retired and too old to do what you are doing. In fact selling my RV this year. However, I can keep traveling because of your great posts. Want you to know that I really like your personality - totally identify with you. Thanks. Grace
Always good videos Eric. Glad I was patient enough to view this to the end and read all the comments. As a non-mechanical non-RVer (but admire those that do a whole lot) I got several valuable lessons out of this. Well-meaning people can give all the same advice and can all be wrong. But that doesn't mean they can't be right in the future. Electrical gremlins: always trace back to poorly installed after market additions. Uncovered wires near your feet can be a hazard. Never give up -- follow your instincts. Your RV and mechanical experience count for something. Now, about the weather....
YAY YAY YAY! So glad you found the issue. I FINALLY got a van! :) Still got work to do on it but the ball is rollin'. Will have to make my way out & meet you & Jax & Angela...congrats by the way. Hugs to you & Jax & stay safe.
Good for you Eric. I am very happy you solved the dome light issue. I could see you was very gratified you got it on your own, and saved a ton of money, and you should be. Great video as always.
Hello there Eric&Jax. Kevin here with my own update. Yes the wife and I have finally retired!! Yep sold the house on Martha’s Vineyard for a nice price and are already building in Kissimmee Florida. But that’s not going to be finished till late April or early May. So we are out here on the road with our little travel trailer, a Forest River Cherokee Wolf Pup 16FQ. Towing with our 2016 Colorado Z714x4, V6 Ext Cab. We have stayed at a place on the Florida Panhandle, then a night in Louisiana. But we have landed in a beautiful spot called Matagorda State Park, right on the beach in the great state of Texas on the Gulf. We are here for two weeks, then off a little north. I’d like to make it to California or st least the left coast, but we will see. I hope everything is safe and sound with you two, it’s nice to have a four legged companion that’s for sure. We are also traveling with our two small Cocker Spaniels named Trudy and Mocha, they are a real blessing to have along with us. But anyway take care have fun stay safe.
👍Thanks for reminding me of those beautiful places I saw as a kid.💕 Glad you found your gremlins, they can really be a pain in the butt😉 safe travels guy 🍀👍🍀
Hi Eric! Patty from Medford here. Just a note for future travel. You can buy chains from Les Schwab in Cali, and return them in Oregon. OR I think the same would work for WalMart too. I think I caught your vibe as you and Jax drove by. :-) And Hooray you got your problem solved!! Go have a beer :-)!
Another awesome video. Glad you figured that out before you paid out all that money. Jaxed Looks happy for you..cant wait for the next video.Live, Love and keep RVING..
Congrats on diagnosing your alarm problem. I admire your tenacity. So, this is the area where I live (Redding/Lake Shasta). It's such a beautiful place, and we have been getting some amazing sunsets. Glad you came thru!!. Safe Travels!! :-)
Hay Eric, great job bro, glad you figured out your dome light problem,be safe out there and me and the kids enjoy your videos and following along with you,,have a good day Eric ...BYE
That’s awesome, always great when something is an easy and no cost fix. I even had a sigh of relief when you found the issue. Great job and safe travels!
If you didn't find out the problem, I would advise by-passing the dome light and having an alarm pin installed on each door so that when the alarm is armed and the door is opened, the pin pops out and trips the alarm. WHEN are you going to get into the Adirondacks? Glad to see you found the problem!
nice work. most people give up when they see these issues. often the issue is very simple, very basic as you found, and shorts and grounding issues are the most common
Feels GREAT to solve the DOME light issue & SAVE not a few bucks, but a LOT. We LEARNED something, THANKS to your TENACITY & your willingness to TACKLE the job. Now, GO get that WAVE HEATER you earned it !
Glad you got your electrical problem fixed with the alarm. Got to love Chevy. They overcharge for everything. And in this case would not have solved your problem. Alarm systems always seem to be a challenge eventually because they tap into so much vehicle wiring, but in your case a necessary evil. Glad you got it fixed. Good problem solving skills.
Great video, Eric: stunningly beautiful drone shot opening; and good news for you at the close. Congratulations on finding the source of the alarm malfunction! TFS! (:
I always start at the power source and work back from there. On your bike I would pull out the needles and blow out the seats and clean the needles. If you do remove them count how many turns it took to take them out. When you install them count your turns back in. Don't mix them up. You can buy spray bombs of compressed air. Glad you found alarm problem.
Beautiful campsite!! And how satisfying to be able to figure it out for yourself! So if it happens in the future you know how to fix it! And save tons of $$$!!! Great job!!
LOL.... so funny - I just did a Hiking Fail video because our family went on a hike and it just didn't quite turn out the way we wanted it to. You sure do find some of the most beautiful places - love the drone footage here!! Also glad you got the dome light issue fixed - that's fantastic!! Thanks for sharing, Eric!
So glad you were able to figure out your alarm system!🎉 I had the same issue going through the Siskiyou Pass last month. Hope it didn't take you too long to get back, but you found yourself a cool camping spot in the meantime:)
It's amazing how something so complicated can be so simple to fix once you find the problem. When it comes to electrical in vehicles nothing surprises me
Two things. 1. You'll need at least Wave 6 and maybe an 8 for your size space. They are wonderful and an 8 heats my 27 ft. 5th wheel on the coldest of days. (Just barley). For the mild cold that you deal with a 6 might work but NOT a 3. 2. If your bike floods, hold the throttle wide open while cranking. This clears the carb of extra gas.
Thank you Eric, for enabling Closed Captions on your videos for us to turn on. We have been watching and re-watching every one of your videos for over 6 months now and it is awesome that my husband can now understand what you are saying with the captions. We are inspired by you and appreciate your videos and we always look forward to seeing what you and Jax are up to and where you will find the next interesting roadside attraction! Thank you for all your wonderful informational nomadic tips and tricks and sharing your lives with us. We will be hitting the road almost full time here in the next few weeks. THANKS so much!
Man some times you just dive right in to projects and scare the hell out of me...good job finding the loose wire. The old truck driver in me wants to tell ya not a bad idea having a set of tire chains in the side box as even places you don't expect can have freak snow storms over night and you wake up in the walmart parking lot to 4-5" of snow, at which point you can spin the chains on to get out of the parking lot...keep up the good work, stay safe and tell Jax hi...Dave
Hey Eric, When I was researching propane heaters for our RV, I came across a fact that was really important to remember, but not prominently displayed on the box. Because of the safety system Buddy heaters use (Low O2 cut-off) these heaters do not perform well over 7,000 ft elevation. You might want to note when you have issues with the Buddy heater, what elevation you're at. FYI
concerning your motorcycle starting issues, remove the carb float bowl drain screw, turn on gas, and let gas flow out. A speck of dirt might be getting stuck intermittently in idle/main jet circuit. Be careful if you decide to disassemble carb. Float bowl screws can be difficult to remove.
i hate when people say that.luck has nothing to do with hard word and the willingness to learn. I know you probably were just complimenting Erick but thats not the right way.
13:15 I was going to say a bad ground can cause the same problem but good thing your found it, sometimes it is something simple that causes big problems.
I actually laughed LOL, when you found your dome light problem...You looked so happy finding out about it. Course A $1500 save is,a smiley for sure. Have,a fabulous day...stay safe.🌋🤗🤗😀👍👍
Hey Eric, glad ya got your alarm/dome light problem sorted, The look on your face when you found it was priceless. HUGE relief for ya. As for the bike, if you haven't already done so, it could be worth your while putting a new spark plug in it. The little Yamaha's tend to need new sparkers regularly . Look forward to your videos, keep them coming bro :-)
Good job Eric, that money is better in your pocket than there's. I'm a electrician and I always start my diagnosis from the power source first. Huge relief.
Through past experience, I have found that whenever there is a problem with a vehicle, especially electrical, you should always start with troubleshooting add-on accessories.
I knew it must have been the green wire! ;-) Yeah, right. I'm glad you figured your problem out and got it fixed yourself. Good luck getting through the pass.
Good job on troubleshooting your alarm problem ! That is a kind of troubleshooting that makes you feel good like few other things can . Seeing Jax this morning almost brought a tear to my eyes this morning . My cat Simba got taken by coyotes yesterday morning . He looked like Jax's twin , I had had him about 14 years .
Regarding the bike, two things come to mind to check. Check the gas cap vent, does it ever hiss when you open the cap? If so might check to make sure the vent isn't plugged (probably not, but easy to check). Other thing is some grit in the carb either blocking/partially blocking the main jet or keeping the float valve stuck open. It's a pretty simple carb on those bikes, and worth digging into even if you haven't done it before. All that dirt travel probably got some gunk in there. If continues to be a problem consider (another) in line fuel filter.
Hi Eric, I do carry Tire Chains in my small Class A. Have not had to use them yet. Also have a set of chains for my Tow car. Living in Oregon. I drive over mt passes some times. So i have to have them by state law. Thank you for ALL your Vlogs :)
I think the TDub is known for rough cold starts. I usually need to at least half choke it when it is below 75 degrees. Also I found that it runs better with no ethanol in the gas. Where I live you can get ethanol free gas if you buy premium, but I know it's different everywhere. I keep a 5 gallon can of ethanol free gas just for the the TDub.
hey eric, trottner in bellingham is a great mechanic and honest...i had a wiring problem in a bunch of wires (harness) and they patiently went through it and found the problem (on the side of the road) and only charged me $85...this while i was visiting from canada
I finally subscribed to all the You Tubers I've been stalking for 2.5 years! (You were the first, Eric!) I told myself that I would do so as soon as I bought my first RV. This month, I DID IT! I have a small trailer and will be hitting the road (not full-time yet) this year. Not to sound too groupie-ish, but I think of you as my wandering nephew and Jax as the cat I never had! CONGRATULATIONS on the dome light/Alarm epiphany! Love your inspiring channel!
You never cease to amaze me. You are so knowledgeable about so many things, mechanics, electronics, and so much more. Well done. So glad you figured out the problem on your own but then you often do solve problems on your own.
Amazon sells self tightening tire chains, I own 2 pair of them. They are fantastic in mud as well as snow and cost around $100 a pair. Compare that with a tow or digging out your truck they are well worth it.
Been in Texas 22yrs brought my chains with me when I moved down here from Washington and carry them with me all the time. I use them to pull idiots out of mud here but have them when I head back up North
Excellent!!! In my 60 years I've always found most mechanical, auto problems are usually an easy fix. Start with the obvious...the easiest and most obvious and go step by step progressing to harder.

So glad you were able to fix that problem, we always have faith in you Eric! Keep warm and have a great day!!
So very satisfying to fix a wiring problem that could of cost hundreds or a thousand dollats to fix. Great job Eric.
Absolutely beautiful scenery! So excited you and Sean figured out the wiring problem and saved you some big bucks!! Lori

Oh, yes, and don't buy dealer replacements unless they can be proven to be better than the "knock-offs".
That's awesome Eric!! Happy to hear you don;t have to take it in to get it fixed!!! Good job!
YAY YAY YAY! So glad you found the issue. I FINALLY got a van! :) Still got work to do on it but the ball is rollin'. Will have to make my way out & meet you & Jax & Angela...congrats by the way. Hugs to you & Jax & stay safe.

I love it the way you just won't give up on a problem, and eventually work it through. AWESOME!!!
I am so pleased for you that you managed to fix the problem yourself. Congrats on getting a bit of good luck. 😊
It is awesome that you found the light problem. Good to see you happy.

So relieved for you Eric. Nothing like forking out tons of money for repairs that you don't even need. Happy trails!
See, everything does get better! Life is good!
We were near Mt Shasta last week, you found a beautiful spot. Now we’re sitting at Yosemite, snowing around us. It’s all part of the adventure 😂😂
Hooray for getting it fixed. Please stay safe God bless travel mercies I look forward to your next vlog
Hi Eric and the USA, from a motorhomie in New Zealand :)
does the gas heater not make condensation? mine does so Im looking at a diesel one.
hey eric, trottner in bellingham is a great mechanic and honest...i had a wiring problem in a bunch of wires (harness) and they patiently went through it and found the problem (on the side of the road) and only charged me $85...this while i was visiting from canada
A bad install from Viper. It makes total sense now. Thanks for that tip!
I finally subscribed to all the You Tubers I've been stalking for 2.5 years! (You were the first, Eric!) I told myself that I would do so as soon as I bought my first RV. This month, I DID IT! Thats the problem with aftermarket installs... Glad you looked and found the problem...Safe Travels!!
You never cease to amaze me. You are so knowledgeable about so many things, mechanics, electronics, and so much more. Well done. So glad you figured out the problem on your own but then you often do solve problems on your own.
I am so happy you were able to figure out what was wrong and save yourself some money. Ha ha a balmy 45 degrees.
Good job figuring out the dome light, always start with the simple things. If you need help with the bike let me know👍
Fantastic fix. Way to go. Great video.
Glad you were able to find your problem on your light/alarm issue. Hope you can avoid the storms hitting the PNW. Windy and cold down here in SoCal.
Amazon sells self tightening tire chains, I own 2 pair of them. They are fantastic in mud as well as snow and cost around $100 a pair. Compare that with a tow or digging out your truck they are well worth it.
Good fix, lucky you have knowledge to get stuck in and find the problem.
You find some of the most beautiful spots. When I start my trip I'm just going to follow all your GPS
Yayyyyyyyy!!! Whoot, Whoot!! Problem solved, and great drone footage=happy day!
OMG THANK GOD. HAVE A GREAT TRIP. ☺🤗👍👍, MILAGROS MOGRO FROM FL.
Good job finding the issue! Time for a beer to celebrate !!!
Beautiful place Eric, congratulations figuring that out. Still love your v logs.
Well welcome back to the pacific north west. Since your here already...you know we got a bunch of snow ...ya...but its home.
Been in Texas 22yrs brought my chains with me when I moved down here from Washington and carry them with me all the time. I use them to pull idiots out of mud here but have them when I head back up North
Glad you fixed it... what a relief it must have been
Great job!! On the alarm system.
Excellent!!! In my 60 years I've always found most mechanical, auto problems are usually an easy fix. Start with the obvious...the easiest and most obvious and go step by step progressing to harder.
you found the Gremlin!!!! I know this feeling. Congrats!!!!
Hey Eric, you might try using premium gas (higher octane) in the bike. I always use it in mine and in my lawn equipment and they start easier. Just an idea you might try. Cost more but the bike does not use that much. Take it easy.
HEHE! Eric its called Flying by the SEAT of your PANTS! LOL.......... And that is what makes it fun, but a PAIN! LOL Oh Thanks Eric I was going to get the bigger Buddy Heater but after watching the ones on the Small Buddy heaters I was not sure about spending more money on the big one!... Thanks for that update.... Awesome!!
Honey, god works miracles. So happy he saved you all that money. Omg 😲 how wonderful.
Your granny fan
I'm sorry, but if god had anything to do with it he might have saved Eric the trouble of pulling his door panel off. Give credit where credit is due. Cheers
