I’ve been in HVAC since I was a kid and been in for 20 years full time. I couldn’t do anything else. You get to choose if you want more money or more freedom. As I am getting older. I like a little less money but not working so hard. Other professions don’t have those types of options.

My bachelors is in IT. Funniest thing is that my local trade school has an IT program that costs $3500 and is one year. It also prepares you for the A+, Net+ AND Sec+. After you're done with that you can then start getting higher end certs to pump up your resume.

A college degree opens more doors and higher math helps develope more crucial thinking skills. You wouldn't fully understand subneting and binary to decimal conversations without college. Also college improves your writing, verbal and various communication skills.

It’s sad that kids want to make money expressing themselves? We live in an age where many people are making Hundreds of Thousands and even millions of dollars being themselves and will probably never have to work again. Now quitting a job to become a TH-camr or streamer is not a good idea until you actually start seeing it’s become lucrative for you but it’s not sad. It sound like you’re stuck in the old mindset that kids need to grow up to be workers.

Ever since covid, I’ve been realizing more that college isn’t for me. I’ve been looking for alternatives that are particularly cheaper. I would like to work in the tech field. Haven’t made up my mind yet on which sub field, I’m choosing between IT or software development. I know software development can lead you into many cs fields. Not sure if I should apply for apprenticeships, trade school ,or associates degree. I’m wondering if we get paid doing an apprenticeship or we pay them? I’ve done a bit of research, I saw that there are degree apprenticeships. Which I think will be good route

There isn't much apprenticeship jobs in IT or Software development, theres lots of math you would need to know to do complicated concepts (like AI). You can probably do community college and take classes but they can only take you so far. Without a college degree you could get help desk jobs then moving up the ladder is quite difficult without a 4 year degeee. Tech pays fairly well, so a 4 year college degree isn't too bad.

I'm going to slightly disagree with you on your second point about college. It's not practical depending on the university that you go to. My major in undergrad was a mix of business and engineering. Therefore, I didn't have that many Gen Ed classes to take outside of maybe Freshman English and the one required PE class that every Drexel student has to take. I took Intro to Weight-training, and I still use what I learned to this day. All my required business and engineering classes were worth it for me.

So, basically if you go to college lets say do be a lawyer. You're competing with other people who want to be lawyers as well. Which means in the long run your basically just racing against your classmates. First one their wins, everyone else is in debt. Kinda a all or nothing. But, with taking a trade yes, your exposed to less majors but, if you already know what you want to be in life that shouldn't be a problem. You're almost guaranteed a job after trade school. And since no one likes old-fashion hard work. You'll actually be getting more opportunities. But, then again you have to look towards your future income once you get old.

The College Vs Trade School debate is ridiculous and this video makes the same invalid premises.
To begin with, the Trades are skilled labor and there already is a target demographic and population for trades : High school graduates not going to colleges and universities as well as high school dropouts and GED . Thus lower middle to lower tier.
Essentially this is a captive population with only the standard jobs options. Thus they would benefit from the trades.
The idea that middle to Higher tier students should not go to college but go to trade school is simply not done not even with the weird propaganda from Mike Rowe and other.
Its a waste of intellectual talent to advise someone skilled in physics to be a plumber or someone who is great at calculus to be a carpenter. You dont need to be educated to be in the trades.
Its also unfair to the other students who arent going to college to be muscled out by normally college bound students for trade.
Let the college bound students go to college and let the other HS grads go to trade school.
    Case closed.

Please. Learn your trade though. Too many people jumping in and “Starting their own business” and messing up and giving true Tradesmen a bad name.

Yes but the trades is your income will be capped after your certification first few years as sn apprentice your income will jump if you keep jumping jobs every year.
