Sure this generator is 34 years old but it has been maintained and the top end rebuilt. Yet, it still has more problems than Jay-Z. Check out this video to see why.
Doug White we went through countless issues with our original Kohler7.5 Kw generator on our 1988 4207. it became impossible to find parts so I ended up replacing it with a new Kohler 7.5 EKD-Low CO generator. I have been happy with it's performance with the only few things that are different from the old generator. The new one is a 2 cylinder and runs at 3600rpms which makes it necessary to have the sound proofing case. As far as Kohler service I have had no problems in the past helping me source parts with the dealer in Winnipeg Manitoba where I live but the parts were getting harder and harder to find. We enjoy your videos and envy you being able to live on your boat.

We had an onan on our Gibson and I couldn't get gaskets quick enough so I "temporarily" made them out of a cereal box. They were still holding 2 years later when I sold the boat
As a mechanic, I would have made the gasket out of silicone sealant. RTV. Have you been able to download a pdf of the tech manual? If you ever need anything i'd be glad to help if I can.
I like to keep things as stock as possible, so I went with Kohler gaskets and made my own from paper to be as close as possible. I don’t have the tech manual, but I do have a somewhat thorough owner’s manual. I appreciate your offer, be careful what you wish for!!!
Amen. My Kohler gave out on my 2005 Sea Ray. So I bought a brand new one in 2020 supposedly with a 5 year Warranty. It has had nothing but problems- and each time I have tried to put in a warranty claim to Kohler for the repairs they have denied the claim. Definitely stay away from Kohler. My little Honda EU2000 that I keep on board as a backup has never let me down.

They were paper gaskets. Next time (hope there isn't one but....) a paper grocery sack can be used, you can buy gasket material and make your own....waiting two months.... Wow.
Poor preventative maintenance practices and lack of knowledge. Any auto parts store has rolls of gasket material to make your own replacement gaskets. All else fails red rtv does it all.

I have no idea why Honda doesn't get into the marine generator business. They would replace every maker of gas powered generators in a year.

I have gasket material, but I like things to be put together with stock parts. I’ve never had great luck making gaskets that don’t leak.

I agree with the lack of maintenance. Way too much rust inside those hoses. Maybe not you but some owner in the past.
34 year old generator that still works? I’ll get one. Good luck with a Westerbeke or Onan, you’ll never find those parts!!
