Start your day feeling centered, strong, and aligned. Take a deep breath, relax, and let’s begin.
In Sahaja Yoga, the understanding of the right and left sympathetic nervous systems is deeply connected to the flow of subtle energy within the human body, specifically through three main energy channels, or nadis:
1. Left Sympathetic Nervous System (Ida Nadi)
Associated with: The past, emotions, memories, and the subconscious mind.
Qualities: Governs our emotional well-being, intuition, desires, and the capacity to feel. It is also linked to the moon’s energy, bringing calmness, coolness, and nurturing qualities.
When Balanced: You feel emotionally stable, nurturing, peaceful, and connected to your inner self.
When Overactive: Can lead to depression, lethargy, fear, guilt, or living too much in the past.
Physical Connection: Controls the right side of the brain and the left side of the body.
2. Right Sympathetic Nervous System (Pingala Nadi)
Associated with: The future, action, planning, physical and mental activity, and ego.
Qualities: Governs our mental and physical activities, intellect, ambition, and drive. It represents the sun’s energy, bringing dynamism, warmth, and vitality.
When Balanced: You feel motivated, focused, and capable of taking effective action without stress.
When Overactive: Can lead to stress, irritability, overthinking, aggression, or burnout due to excessive action and ambition.
Physical Connection: Controls the left side of the brain and the right side of the body.
The Central Channel (Sushumna Nadi) - The Path to Balance
In Sahaja Yoga, the goal is to awaken the Kundalini energy, which rises through the central channel (Sushumna Nadi), bringing balance to both the left and right sympathetic nervous systems. This awakening leads to a state of thoughtless awareness, where one feels present, peaceful, and connected to their true self.
When the Kundalini rises:
It naturally balances both channels.
It helps to cool down the left side if you’re overly emotional or dwelling on the past.
It helps to calm the right side if you’re overly active or stressed.
Simple Sahaja Yoga Practices to Balance the Nervous System:
Meditation: Sit quietly, place your right hand on your heart, and focus on your inner self to balance emotions.
Breathing Techniques: Alternate nostril breathing (left nostril to cool, right nostril to energize).
Foot Soaking: A simple technique using saltwater to clear and balance subtle energy channels.
