I soooo agree!!! It sure would be a better world if we all had access to such amazing homegrown meat that only had one bad day on the farm! Have you seen the way they are grown in industrialized facilities?! It’s beyond nasty!!!!🤢 No wonder people are so sick!
And next year your fields will be that much better, because of both the chickens and turkeys. One farmer showed their field, after 10 years. Deep green
I thought you guys moved out there to be a part of the Justin Rhodes sphere of influence. I have no idea why I thought that but I'm glad I found you. I like that you are grounded in your approach to homesteading, and that you keep your farm tidy. That's a BIG deal!!
Congratulations Jason and Lorraine on raising, harvesting and selling your beautiful turkeys. May God continue to bless you all, your homestead and your business. Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃Big hugs from Italy. 💜💜💜
Turkeys look great. When you mention roasting your turkey in your table top roaster, I knew I couldn’t be the only one. I’ve been using my roaster for a few years now roasting my turkeys. I find they roast up faster and better in the roaster compared to the oven. I’ve also been known to take my turkey straight from the freezer and into the roaster. Half way thru, I’ll get in and pull out the neck and such, and then let it continue to roast. Works out every time. I make and bake stuffing separately, so that is not an issue.
Wonderful farm business! Congratulations to you and your family and friends for all that you have done and shared. 🍗🦃Happy Thanksgiving🍗🦃 If I lived within driving distance I would be a regular customer! Keep On!
Linda here…great video, as always. We used to use a propane blow torch on the feathers that the plucker machine missed, especially the ducks and turkeys. Eliminated hand plucking and sped up the process.
Love your videos and listen to your podcast every week! Taking your turkeys for a walk was hilariously funny! Glad they didn’t figure out they could fly! You and Lorraine are super cute love the high 5s! I’m sure the 8 years were so worth the sweet success you are having now! Next year 100 turkeys!!!! God bless!🥰❤️🍁🇨🇦🙏🏻
After following for so many years and seeing how far you’ve come.. I have to say, I’m so immensely proud of you!! The 3 of you this all by yourself !! 🎉 Happy thanksgiving❤
As I watched you move the turkeys, I was reminded of the childhood book “The Great Turkey Walk” by Kathleen Karr. It was set in the 1860’s and the protagonist walked the turkeys over 1000 miles.
My wife took cheese cloth and soaked it chicken broth and a half stick of melted butter. She put it over the turkey while it was in the over. I was "sure" it would dry out and catch fire... but it didn't. She put more of the broth/butter on it as it cooked. That was probably one of the BEST turkeys I've eaten!
Time and effort invested in a very rewarding manner. Monetary as well as personal achievement and a healthy meal for a family meal. Thank you Sow the Land family for ALL your hard work and commitment to offering us wholesome meat for our tables. Happy Thanksgiving, wishing you many more years of enjoyment and success. Blessing to all.
The word is that the turkey which was getting picked on, or pecked on, was bringing a heavy dose of politics into the turkey coop. The others were havin none of it. 🐔
The size of that turkey's legs you were plucking was amazing. I cook turkey in my pressure canner now. I never liked white meat before doing it this way. You can then put it under the broiler to crisp up the skin.
We raised the broad breasted bronze last year and they were much bigger than we anticipated...Two of the toms weighed in at 40lbs! This year we went with the midget white from McMurray Hatchery and we are very pleased with the results. Happy Thanksgiving!
Hopefully your perimeter fence is a lot higher than 4 feet because my Turkey even with his wings clipped can jump 4 feet in order to keep him in the one yard I had to put my fence up to 8 foot And my Turkey is one big boy three years old now
Jason, you are wise to be pumping out the content between now and New years. Advertising revenue is the highest it will be all year. Plus, I love your content.
With having only 3 or 4 of us here for a Turkey dinner, I usually only cook a 12 pound bird. We get plenty of leftover meat that I will separate and use for Tacos, casseroles, Pot-Pies, Tetrazzini, Sandwiches both hot and cold, and soups. I'll cook down the bones and parts like the neck and wing tips etc for stock and the organs will go to the dog along with any non bone particles strained from the stock. Even a small bird goes a long way! To keep the bird moist when roasting I've always put cut up apples and oranges in the cavity, peels still on. The fruit removes any gamey or bitterness from the dark meat and moistens from the inside out. Stuffing is much safer when cooked outside of the bird and having a big empty center will make the bird taste dry. I have even used the apple cores from the apples I used for the pie. Nobody has ever said that I made a dry or bad tasting bird. One of many tricks I learned from my Grandparents.
Congratulations❗️Lorraine Jason & Penelope💜🦋 so cool you had dreams and you persevered👏👏I like the turkey sounds, appear gentle and so trusting 🩵Happy Thanksgiving🍁🍃🍂🍁
Too bad you are not close to Maryville, TN I have been looking everywhere for fresh, farm raised pork and chicken. All I can find around here is beef. Good job raising all your animals and I love Lorraine's kitchen
Those are some nice looking turkey's. In my next life I want to herd turkey's. 😅 All the homesteaders I watch seem to enjoy raising them. And tasting amazing for the win. I ate wild turkey when I lived in Iowa. That was tasty. I did like birds cooked in my roasting oven the best. And what exactly were cornish game hens? Haven't seen them in forever
Well, i left a joke comment when I started watching the video about turkey being in my belly. It's vanished so ill try again. I couldn't get one of yours but i did one locally to me. And i enjoyed today. Your turkeys look delicious
You are now the local farmer I wish we all had access to! Congratulations on your beautiful turkeys.
I soooo agree!!! It sure would be a better world if we all had access to such amazing homegrown meat that only had one bad day on the farm! Have you seen the way they are grown in industrialized facilities?! It’s beyond nasty!!!!🤢 No wonder people are so sick!

First time I raised turkeys the largest dressed out at 43 lbs. It just fit in the oven barely. But the best turkey we ever ate.

I once raised a turkey that was 36 lbs. after the butchering. Two big to even put in the oven.
