Pienamente d'accordo.
I had the pleasure of seeing this at the Met, also in '83, with almost the same cast, except for the soprano, who was Leona Mitchell. And that performance was also conducted by Levine. All the singers were fabulous, it was a memorable performance. No one sang Ernani like Pavarotti. Have heard that opera several times since, and Pavarotti was the best!
@glendadafonseca8284, you and I must have been at the exact same performance. My first opera ever, hooked on opera ever since. Second row center seats. I agree with you about Pavarotti's performance, but it was Milnes I left clamoring about.
This sounds like it was recorded “in house” by a fan and then put through some sort of software cleaner/filter. It was Negri’s only Elvira at the Met and not broadcast. The published DVD with Leona Mitchell (thank goodness) as Elvira and the remaining same cast is superior in sound. How Negri ever got into the Met at all is a mystery to me. Her one and only Norma was appallingly bad, her Leonora was eaten alive by Cossotto’s Azucena , and this Elvira is so flat it’s unlistenable. Lord know what she did with Trov Leonora and Lucia. P.S. Levine’s conducting is totally annoying-relentlessly loud and driven, combined with metronomically set, unwavering tempi. Yuck.
i think you wandered onto the wrong page?.....commenting on shove halfpenny and knitting is further along. Don't hinder us with your inane ramblings any further.

Not very inspiring, with flat singers like Pavarotti and Raimondi. Milnes is the only star here.
Thanks God you came to the Earth to correct Pavarotti, Levine and the whole musicianship masters... 😂😂😂
