The guitar nut shows off his collection of old friends that make the cut for time onstage during concerts with the 400 Unit.
Currently touring with his acclaimed 400 Unit band in support of the highly acclaimed Weathervanes album, the guitarist and songwriter rolls with a stash of vintage Fenders and Gibsons that would make even the least gear-motivated among us blush. His own Jason Isbell Custom Telecaster features a sunburst finish and cream double-binding on its ’59-style Tele Custom body, a mid-’60s C-shaped maple neck, a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard, custom Jason Isbell Telecaster Pickups, and a modified bridge.

That's very interesting. How the neck on that vintage moves the way it does when it comes across humidity as I would imagine the age of that neck most. If not, all of the moisture would be removed almost making it the equivalent to a roasted Maple neck, which should be impervious to such weather conditions. Very interesting, great content.

You know what I really like, I like looking at and talking about old guitars and amps, and not a single person plugs one of them in to do what they were made to do. I just like people standing around hipstering out over pieces of wood.
I think Isbell is a nice guy and all, but i just yawn at the same old same old Tele's, Strats and LP's. Yeah, you made enough money to join the 'vintage' club, but having played a few of these vintage era instruments, I don't buy into the hype. They're still just tools, and even old classic cars are worth more when they're pristine.
I worked at a vintage shop when I was a teen.
I’ve played every type of Les Paul, every type of Stratocaster…
And I can personally tell you that the old ones are not built as well. They are loud, they have buzzing, they have no electrostatic protection when it comes nearby, cell phones…

Jason's politics keeps me from reality liking his music. I was a fan for over a decade & spent thousands seeing his shows.
I can assure you that his politics were always what they are now. So if that prevents you from like Jason’s work (or anyone else’s for that matter) it’s your own loss.
